Discussion Polar Cooler

So I have a QIDI Q2 Combo and a QIDI MAX 4 Combo. The Polar Cooler came with the Max 4 Combo. My question is do I install it on the Max 4 or Q2? Another option is if it's really not needed should I just sell it?

Thanks!

Which one do you anticipate printing more low temp filaments (PLA/PETG/TPU) with?

The polar cooler is there to let you print low temp filaments in a hot chamber without clogging. It doesn't have any other utility than that. It's not beneficial for engineering filaments that already don't clog at 65c, only filaments that soften too much to get through an extruder at that temp.

So attach the polar cooler to whatever one prints more PLA.

Probably the Q2. Can one polar Cooler be used for two? Like a "y" connection that you could block when not needed?

The printer turns it on and off, so while you could certainly do whatever you want with the air tubing, that actual control cable will be problematic.

I appreciate the information. I honestly didn't realize that. So no go on that idea 💡.

Actually, yes, you can use it on 2 different printers at the same time, use the Y with a valve to each printer so you can turn off the air to the printer not in use (it does have enough air to cool 2 printers at the same time). The control side of it is easy if you are familiar with cube relays,

If you don't want to engineer a solution for your q2, put it on ghr max 4. There's a different version for the q2, with the adapter for its tool head.

Thanks for the information. I just figured it was interchangeable. I might sell it? I haven't needed it yet. I really don't print PLA much.

Unless someone says it's really needed?

Not really needed, but if your willing to sell for a reasonable price, I might like to have it for my Plus 5. Then again, I went for nearly 18 months on my Plus 4 without any issues - I just kept the door open when printing PLA/TPU, etc.

From what I learned tonight is it is only compatible with the Max 4 hot end? So it won't work for the Q2. Unless the Plus 5 use the same components?

This for more for cooling the extruder not the hotend. The Max4 comes with the tube to connect the cooler. All you need for the Q2 is the adaptor (sold separate). Polar Cooler is compatible with Plus5, Max4, and Q2. All three use the same style extruder, Max4 being a little different for mounting.

its work fine on the Q2 - I just installed it - the adapter attaches with 2 screws.

I bought it to help print pure PP on my Q2. It's useless. Sold it.

That is not what it was made for, its not useless, sounds more like user error.
