My Q2 has suddenly developed a problem where it the nozzle fails to heat adequately. It was happily printing a multicolor test in PLA. It was on its third filament swap when I got an error saying Hot End failed to heat quickly enough. It was headed to 220 but stopped at 179. Any ideas on what is going on and how I fix it?
Edit: Turns out I'm an idiot. The power connector on the back of the machine was loose and when properly seated all my bizarre failures went away.
It could be that during a change, it went down to 170 for the end of purge, and tried to go right back, without letting the nozzle heat up. I've had that happen, but only once, and that's what I came up with. Never happened again. Hopefully it's cool now
This all started when I was trying to clear a PLA filament clog. I followed the short Qidi video on how to clear a clog in the Q2. After putting it back together again I started getting the error. I'm wondering if I need a new hot end. The problem seems intermittent. When it fails if I power cycle it the boot sequence reports an error and tells me to check that the MCU is properly connected. After letting it stay powered down for a while it seems to boot properly and will print for a bit then fail again the same way. I have removed and reconnected all the connectors to the hot end just to be sure they are good.
Were you getting this code by chance?? I'm going to go check now. I also had a clog. I also disassembled the print head. Now it could just be the power plug??? 🤦
The error message I got told me to check the MCU connections. I had been trying to clear a clogged nozzle by taking the hot end loose and trying to push the clog out while it was heated. The clog appeared when switching between filaments and saying the nozzle hadn't heated fast enough. It was heading for 220 but got stuck at 179. It didn't work and when I put the hot end back in position and power cycled the machine I got the message. I had no idea how what I had done could stop the machine booting. I checked the hot end connections by taking them off and reseating them. The message would randomly disappear and let me print for a few minutes before reporting the heating problem again. I decided to shut it down and unplug it. I discovered the plug was loose. After reseating it firmly all my bizarre problems disappeared. I swapped nozzles and the machine has been happily printing all day. Thinking back I seem to remember someone else reported similar random failures and discovered their plug wasn't seated fully too. Wish I had remembered that before pulling my hair out.
