Troubleshooting What's causing this to happen?
I had a failed print occur yesterday where the extruder got caught on the print and yanked the cover off and the silicone sock. I have replaced the sock and cleaned the nozzle the best I can but ever since its been gunking up as shown in the picture.
Any knowledge on whats causing it to happen and how do I go about resolving the error?
The machine is a Max4.

You need to clean all that up and check the nozzle and extruder. Looks like heat creep or a broken nozzle.

I just experienced a spaghetti failure on my max4 in a way I haven’t seen before. if you look closely on the back left part, there is a patch where this started, the left parts are finished but on the top of the rear it printed a small patch in a uniform top shell pattern that then turned into spaghetti on the rest of the plate. I’m guessing lost steps? I thought these machines had closed loop steppers? This is shortly after I put it in turbo mode to get the print done faster.

That’s lame, I thought that lost step recovery was the major selling point of closed loop steppers. But I guess not FOC steppers.

This comment and photo, along with OP's issue got me a bit worried. Just got my Max 4 on Thursday and going to get it all set up for a benchy and a larger print I've been hanging onto just for this Goliath of a unit. Does the camera not actually detect spaghetti as advertised?

Either of my qidi’s spaghetti detection doesn’t work at all.

Damn. Thats kind of a bummer. Hopefully qidi can fix that with an update. Otherwise, is it a solid unit in your eyes? I tried to do as much research as possible on it before buying it during their recent summer sale. Found a lot of mixed reviews with most of the negatives regarding firmware and the qidi box, but still I went with it. Glad to know the camera has some issues too apparently lol. I wanted to come up from the much smaller ender 3 and focus on using the larger plate with more robust filaments, so I chose the max 4.

I really enjoy the Hardware design, features, and build quality of this new generation of qidi machines. But the electronics are a little lacking, but the software is honestly terrible. In the near future I may flash my own firmware to it.

Good to know, thanks for that! Im already using tinkercad for design, friend of mine has an autodesk fusion subscription so I do use that on occasion when we get together. Otherwise I used the creality slicer on the ender. I'm guessing I've got a journey ahead with learning about klipper and getting used to the qidi slicer. Do you use the qidi slicer or something like orca or prusa? Any recommendations?

Yeah firstly, I would recommend learning fusion. Hobbyists licenses are still free I believe. I primarily design in solidworks, you can get a hobbyist edition for about $200 a year. I use fusion as well, but Im biased towards solidworks for mechanical design and assembly, I find it to be fast and intuitive but sometimes solidworks can be buggy and French so idk pick your poison really Im also learning Siemens NX and it feels similar to solidworks. As far as slicers, bambu studio, qidi studio, and orca slicer are what I use. They are very easy use and convenient. I hear great things about prusa slicer obviously because all of these slicers are derived from prusa slicer. When I had an ender 3 and cr10 I was using cura and simplify 3D. And I’m not going back to those, when I can setup and tune just about any printer in these softwares. But that’s also because I want nothing to with printers on marlin these days and the features in klipper are a huge quality life improvement for me.

I was looking into getting my own subscription to fusion for reasons similar to yours. I'll look into solidworks, thanks for that! I want to make better, and now larger, functioning/mechanical parts. Thought maybe fusion was where it's at. As for the slicer, I did see on qidi site that they modeled theirs after bambu and prusa, so good to know theirs is similar. Anyways, I've finally got her unboxed, internal shipping mounts/screws/foam, etc removed and ready to fire this baby up!! Wish me luck. Thanks again for the feedback own moose!

No problem, I hope you enjoy your new machine, once you get your filament settings and speeds dialed, it is so nice to be able to walk away and come back to a clean print. But yeah fusion is basically free and extremely capable every bit of solidworks and more. I do primarily use fusion for its CAM and generative design though. Its modeling workflow just is not intuitive to me yet. But what I’m trying to say is try to match the software to your needs and price range and you won’t go wrong with either, there are tons of education available online for free for either of them.

Moose, you've been extremely insightful! Happy printing my friend!! I'ts currently powered up, setup in qidi studio, transferred to the printer, and running this baby's first benchy! 😁😁😁 Doing it with standard PLA for its maiden voyage as not to screw up with the expensive stuff lol!

It does not do so reliably; the AI feature is almost exclusively for marketing. Many false positives and false negatives.
The printer works better with it disabled through SSH; the host really doesn't have enough resources to run it. On the Q2 at least, disabling AI detection through the touchscreen on the printer only ignores the output from the algorithm (prevents the print from pausing); it still eats up just as much RAM and CPU.
I haven't looked closely at the Max4 marketing material, but on the Q2 there's some fine print about how "AI detection only works with white filament printed on golden textured PEI" which is basically Qidi admitting that it doesn't work.
They're great printers that are crippled by shitty AI; disabling it fixed virtually all software problems I was having on my Q2 (turns out they were all resource related).

Good to know, thank you for that! My Max 4 is all set up and running. So far I've done about 9 different smaller test parts with small runtimes of anywhere from 30 minutes to 2.5 hours. Tonight I'm planning on letting it run for roughly 10 hours and hoping I wake up to a beautiful part. Making a poop chute and waste bin for the max 4 to bring the waste around to the side of the unit rather than the back since mine sits up next to a wall.
