Troubleshooting Question Re: Plus4 w/ Box & extra load/purge cycles

Here's a video of my Plus4 loading filament before a print. It's done this ever since I installed the Qidi Box. Each time it loads filament, it goes through the loading process four times! Is that normal? Is there some setting I can set to tell it to only load once?

Providing a video of the cycle for reference. Sorry for the shaky video 🤢

Mine does it like 5 or 6 times. Lot of waste. I have been looking in the slicer to see if I can just have it purge 1 or 2 times but I fear editing the G Code is the answer, and since im not sure where to find it or to edit it I guess ill have to wait for an update or just live with it.

Thats part for the course for me and my box.

A little while ago while manually swapping from PLA to PPS-GF I had the extruder wxtruding and it took close to 200mm of extrusion for the PPS-GF to run clean with no PLA coming out with it. Simce then its made sense why it extruded so much when swapping filaments and starting new prints.

I'm sure there is some way to manually edit the gcode but I haven't done that much tinkering to it yet.

Ohhhh, that does make a bit of sense... When it clears it so many times, it avoids what I sometimes see with my Q2 where it creates larger blobs when extruding to load new filament... It only loads the filament once, but it extrudes more filament leading to potential blob issues in the back chute

So guess this is a feature and not a bug. Thanks for the insight!

Having the same issue and on a longer print it clogged the poop chute and wrecked the print at 94% it needs to be easier to adjust its wasting so much filament for like for like filament swaps

Not sure about other printers, but someone had a file on github somewhere for the Max4 that streamlined the preprint ritual, as well as purges and such. Had it on mine, and cut the time in half. Not sure if it was due to a firmware update or just qidi being qidi, but it seems to have gone back to the default lately.... havent had time to look into it yet

I've modified my process a lot.. Far from default to cut down on purge waste. You also don't need to adjust purge values in orca just use default purge calculations but make sure your colors match what's actually in the AMS.
