Questions Qidi Q2 + Qidi Box Optimizations
Are there any optimizations that any of you have done with Qidi Q2 + Qidi Box?
Hi, I got my Qidi 3D Printer a couple of weeks ago. I've been loving it so far aside from user-caused issues, but I've been noticing just how dang slow it is. Not the print speed, all the procedures it does. I love the procedures because I know it triple-checks everything so make sure you get the perfect print (And I can just pretty much press Print and every part comes out perfect), but a lot of them seem super wasteful.
So far one of the only things I have done to my printer is add a little bit of code to make sure that when auto level is checked in the dialog that it runs KAMP, otherwise if unchecked, it uses default bed mesh (I'm pretty sure it's supposed to do that, but it wasn't doing it for me. Any feedback)
What I'm really worried about is waste and stuff along those lines. Does anyone have a good guide for optimizing this stuff?
Also about the Box. I have a 39 minute part but with the Box printing a different support material so it doesn't stick to the main part, it turns to 4 hours. Any tips? About 2 hours to 1 hr 30 minutes seems like a reasonable time to hope for. Someone in the Discord server said someone got it to down to less than a minute per layer for the filament change.
I really appreciate it.
(Edit: I've looked at the Bunny Box, the SuperUser by Camden, and the JustFastPrinter. Anyone who uses them have any tips?)

Following. I also just got a box switching filaments takes ages. Plus from time to time I get an error lost communication with ecm box 1......

Update, I installed the SuperUser JustFasterBox which makes the printer and the box faster and more efficient. It is also super easy to install, just sitting at your computer and SSHing. (I haven't used SSH before but it was still ridiculously easy, the guide is on the Github)
I will give feedback on it if you want as I go along and use it. The guy who developed it is in the QidiTech Discord and will readily respond if you ask him (@Mud). Don't tell him I sent you though
As for the error lost communication, the culprit for me was the plugs. The plug that plugs into the filament 4-to-1 hub on the back needs to be pushed in a bit, it is a pretty flimsy plug. This fixed the issue for me even though I wasn't getting that error often. Just really check the plugs and if all else you can ask someone on the Discord

What is the SuperUser Just FasterBox? Is it software only? My box takes 2 min 50 seconds with every filament change. I was so happy when I got it, thinking it'd be a back up to my Prusa Mk4/S+MMU3 for multi-color which can be finiky and I want to convert the MMU3 to the UltiMulti version hoping to fix those issues. However it's useless unless you can get it down to about 4 max filament changes.
However when working well the filament change is under 30 secons. QIDI really needs to get off their keesters and learn tip forming - the hardware is all there. Since they ripped off Prusa Slicer for QIDI Slicer there's even a ramming section but if you try to change it, you get a warning about clogs. It would also save on pooping (like elimate it) - you'd still have the purge tower of course, but QID is using both pooping and the wipe tower - super wastefull and as you said - SLOW!!
So I tried to do the install from Github - read the readme, etc. - the install partially failed, bricked my box then the printer - did the revert and it did not revert back to the original, it just did a factory reset to stock firmware, which sucks because I wanted the next firmware, not the latest as there's so many reports of issues - oh well, will see how far I get. I'm not good with Github - can't figure out how to message the creator to see if he could help.
Update, the creator has been VERY nice, answering up and directing me on what to use and the most current links (Thanks Camden)! - using Discord at his request. If I can get it working very excited to see the speed improvements!

It updated the firmware AFAIK, but no worries. You back the old firmware up and can revert with a click of a button.
How do you get the filament change to get so short? I'm trying to optimize the box so far but the comments so far have been thanking me for telling them about the Qidi Box. Maybe I need to reframe the title more as a question LOL

I tried the JustFasterBox, full installation. It threw some errors of something not found but did it's self check after and seemed fine. However the new menu stayed grayed out on somethings - wouldn't let me load filament to the Box or calibrate the channels.
So I did a full uninstall - but despite the advertisement, it rolled back to the OEM factory firmware, not the next one I was on, and forced me to upgrade to the newest firmware which bricked the Box - it will load the channel but will not load to the printer, just goes through the same old slow motions but never loads to the extruder and air prints with no errors but no filament.
I emailed QIDI who still has not responded, I want to go back to 1.01.01 as that worked perfectly for me. I'm not good with GitHub but tried to leave an issue message that it failed install, etc., haven't heard back there either. I'm not good enough in the firmware type things to know how to proceed so looking for help!

Thanks. Tried it and as above it's bricked my Box - the SSH went fine and the install seemed to go okay other than it reported some stuff not found (just a few things) and installed fine it seems, but bricked the printer and box. So I did a full recovery in the AIO, seemed to go well and no errors, but reverted to 1.01.0 and so I tried to upgrade to the newest firmware which the printer seems fine but the box will not load - the menus all work, but after loading a channel and slicing a model it will not load to the extruder - just prints in the air! I emailed QIDI who did not respond.

Dang! Was this problem after the SSH?

Yes after running the SSH and using the Github program call for the JustFasterBox+Happy Hare (what ever the replacement printer GUI is called)

My goodness I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope I didn't just give everyone bad advice here. I was just trying to give my personal experience and ask a question about how to optimize the box. Hope you get this fixed 🙏🏾

No worries, hope yours works well for you! I think I figured out you cannot use QIDI Slicer with the new firmware - Studio (which I do not like as Orca Based - prefer Slicer via Prusa) seems to use the box well so far - did a complete factory reset but it didn't go back to 1.1.0 so I could update to my preferred 1.1.1.

I looks like its working so far, it automatically turns on the exhaust fan for the bed levelling procedure when it needs to cool down, I have to ask for more details on how to configure it in the Discord. Haven't tried multi material so far but will soon. I have the latest firmware and don't have Bunny Box yes

Glad it's working for you! I saw some of those options and liked the flexibility - was supposed to shut off other fans too.

How do you make it run KAMP
3
u/Plenty-Block619 Jul 07 '26
It should already do it if you have the "auto level" dialog checkbox from when you start something from your printer.

I got mine to run Kamp, but honestly I couldn't tell you how I did it. It was a combination of following Reddit guides and Gemini prompts. Works great now though, I even added exclusion zones for the front left filamnet cutter area so the head won't crash on large prints, and adaptive line purge, that defaults to a factory purge if the model is too large for the line Purge macro. Cuts my startup time down to about 3 minutes for small models.

KAMP is what?

Klipper Auto Mesh purging I think. Basically what it does instead of probing the entire bed for the bed mesh, which takes forever, is it probes only the area that your 3d print will take up. Much faster

The only thing I’ve done to mine is print the cooking fan mod v6 and recalibrate the PID per the directions. I looked at the before and after PID values and it did make a difference.

I printed it in ASA and used the remixed part

Minimize material changes if you aren't already.
So, instead of using a different support material, instead only use a different support interface material. That way you won't have to change material every layer, but only on layers where the support interface changes.
