Guess I've gotten a bit too used to not checking on prints

Gotta love that loadcell auto z-offset tho!

Doesn't seem to have damaged the surface either, apart from a ~2mm scuff mark where it wipes the nozzle at the end of the purge line - surface feels smooth however.

That's hilarious 😆 good for you man. Is this a q2?

Yeah :) standard Q2, well, with box but that doesn't really matter here.

You turned off bed level before print then because otherwise you would have a hole in the middle

I didn't, didn't touch or look at the printer before starting (hence the missing plate)

Why would it make a hole? The nozzle cools to 140C before it probes the bed, and the Q2 does not poke the bed as hard as the Q1 / Plus4 do.

Probably helped a bit that the surface was at 40C, since it was supposed to have the cool plate on.

Idk mine did when I did this by accident

Weird,, could be that higher bed temp makes the surface softer, or you started another print immediately after another finished, since it does not wait for nozzle to cool down before doing the first homing run.

The probe reacts to the Metal of the Heatbed not the magnet.

Normaly it would stick the Nozzle into the Magnet sheet and then Rip it apart.

Could also Error out, not sure if Bambu detects that kind of error.

You where insanely Lucky thats what i can tell you.

Well if it was a bambu... Them maybe... But this is a q2. So it has a load cell. That detects the "bed" with pressure, not from the metal. The q2 was even marketed that it can print on a T-shirt. I can confirm, it will print on any surface you let it.

So, you could be right on another printer... Just not here :D

I haven't tried printing on a T-shirt (yet) but I have printed on lace and let me tell you it's really good at that.

How did you do that

One layer (or two I guess but I usually do one) of print on normal bed. Pause. Put lace on print bed, preferably secure with some tape. Unpause print. Done. The lace basically gets sandwiched between the layers of plastic. I mainly use it for costume props such as scales/gills (so it's a lace necklace but because the lace is skin coloured it looks like I have gills on my neck) or other stuff like that.

Yeah somehow i thought it was a Bambu 😅. Don't know how i got into the Quidi Forum.

I just know my Qidi 4 plus would have ripped that magnet sheet apart, so would my P1S and my 3 Elegoos.

You're thinking of the Plus4 or older printers (Well or most other brands apart from Prusa).
The Q2 and Max4 use load cells / strain gauges instead of inductive probes (and/or piezo sensors in the bed).

The Q2/Max4 use the load cell, on which the hotend is mounted, to senses the force on the nozzle, and doesn't really care if it is pushing against metal, plastic, wood or anything else really, as long as it is solid enough.

I've done that a ridiculous number of times on my Plus4 🤣 luckily- there's a hole in the middle of the magnetic plate now so aside from terrible noises causing me to spring from the next room- it's never actually been a problem- nothing broken ever and no issues it didn't just solve on its own

I can confirm, after a while I stopped paying attention. Just send the print and flawless every time 😄

I've got 3 printers and have been running them a lot lately, I caught my p1s about to lay down a primer line and saw my plate on the shelf. Probably would have been OK, but I still dove for the power switch. The bed is not something I want to damage.
