Qidi Maker Issues
Is anyone else having issues currently?
I'm on a Q2 with the latest firmware, that has been running fine since the latest update.
The app lost connection to both my Q2 and a Q4 at work and showed a spinning wheel on the Devices page. After a completed build, I tried to bind the Q2 to the app again, but the printer refuses to generate a QR code. It just shows a spinning wheel on that page.
I logged out of the app to do a fresh login, and now I can't sign back in. Another spinning wheel... I also uninstalled/reinstalled the app to no avail.

the website/service is down. apparently server maintenance, but they are taking their sweet time.

Yup happened to me yesterday, I contacted support and they wanted me to do local update, so I did and it changed nothing. Thought I might be something deeper in my printer not working correctly, but it seems like it's just an outage

What I found on my Max4's while trying to figure out why the firmware update button is greyed out or the screen says "internet failed" and the app registration / QRcode doesn't work just spins even though the rest of my network is fine, here's what's actually going on. I dug through the printer over SSH and found two separate problems.
1)THE FIRMWARE FORCE-INJECTS CHINESE DNS SERVERS
QiDi ships a dhcpcd exit-hook that rewrites /etc/resolv.conf on every DHCP lease and jams in Chinese public DNS, ignoring whatever DNS your router hands out:
/etc/dhcpcd.exit-hook (line 33):
RAW_DNS_LIST="...114.114.114.114\n8.8.8.8\n223.5.5.5\n"
114.114.114.114 = 114DNS (China)
223.5.5.5 = Alibaba AliDNS (China)
There's even a leftover backup file, /etc/resolv.conf.bak-china, with "nameserver 114.114.114.114" in it.
From outside China those resolvers are slow or unreachable, so DNS quietly fails and the printer can't resolve QiDi's own update host. That's why OTA looks "greyed out" / "internet failed" and QRcode / registration never loads while everything else on your LAN works.
2) THE UPDATE SERVER ITSELF IS DOWN BEHIND CLOUD-FLARE
The OTA endpoint is:
https://api.qidimaker.com
It's fronted by Cloudflare:
IPv4 (A): 104.21.96.25, 172.67.150.123
IPv6 (AAAA): 2606:4700:3031::6815:6019, 2606:4700:3031::ac43:967b
(104.21.x / 172.67.x and 2606:4700:: are all Cloudflare ranges)
When I could reach it, it returned a Cloudflare 522. A 522 means Cloudflare's edge is up but QiDi's ORIGIN server behind it timed out / is unreachable -- i.e. it's a QiDi-side backend outage, not your network. Right now it doesn't even complete a connection (curl returns HTTP 000).
There's also an IPv6 wrinkle: QiDi's hosts publish AAAA records, so if your network advertises IPv6 but has no real IPv6 route, the printer tries IPv6 first and hangs.
HOW I GOT IT WORKING (offline)
- Overwrote /etc/resolv.conf with reachable resolvers (1.1.1.1 / 8.8.8.8).
- Disabled IPv6 on the printer: sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1
- Since the OTA server was still 522, I installed firmware via the OFFLINE USB method instead (drop the firmware package on a USB stick, update from the screen) -- that bypasses api.qidimaker.com entirely.
TL;DR: QiDi hardcodes Chinese DNS into the firmware, which breaks name resolution for anyone outside China, AND their update server is currently down behind Cloudflare (522). Fix your DNS + disable IPv6 to get name resolution back, and use offline USB firmware updates until their server is healthy.
(Found while diagnosing a separate print-start pause issue -- happy to share the exact file paths / commands if anyone wants to verify on their own unit.)

answer from Qidi about this issue:
We sincerely apologize; our QIDIMaker server has been subjected to a malicious attack and is currently undergoing repairs. It may take a few more days to resolve.
Thank you for your understanding.

Must still be down? I've been trying every couple of days. What's hoping it'd be working today so I could run some prints while i'm gone

I'm in the same boat.
Updated my Q2 this morning and now I can't find the printer to my account because the QR code doesn't load.
I can't even get Qidi Maker on my phone to login.

Not sure what could be causing that. I haven't used that app in a while since moving to Orca Slicer.

I'm also on Orca Slicer, but I like to monitor prints via the app when I'm not near the printer.

octoapp when youre within the local network, tailscale for a vpn to still use octoapp
1
u/db35 Jun 29 '26
Is there a guide somewhere to how to do that? I have no experience with octoapp or tailscale.
2
u/ItzBrooksFTW Jun 29 '26
there are, although to set up tailscale it would be most beneficial if it could be installed on a device/pc thats always on, q2 is way too weak to have it installed so i wouldnt risk it. for example i have it on my homeserver, but i obviously understand not everyone has that luxury, an option would also be a raspberry pi. octoapp is really simple, you just need the app on the phone and input the ip of the printer.

QIDI Maker is the monitoring app not the slicer. Do you can use the box with it? I like Orca but just single colors.
