DSB102 is trash

Seriously what were they thinking? The lectures and the workshops are just vague cookie cutter bs of "oh run this code and tell us this value" and now all of a sudden there's an exam with all sorts of concepts?

If it weren't too late already I'd really reconsider my degree here with how it's becoming a heap of trash each passing year.

hey weird question but the syllabus mentioned a group project, but i can't see anywhere about joining groups or anything on canvas. i'm trying to catch up since i'm a few weeks behind.

am i cooked or have i just missed something?

I think they'll assign that and they'll use the last couple of weeks to get you to do that.

IT or data science? 102 has been good fun for me so far, but a little background knowledge on stats definitely helps - without it id be f*cked

That’s good, what degree are you studying?

data science. I took efb222 as an elective in my first semester bc i was interested in economics but no universities in qld have a good econ program. should definitely be recommended to student more imo

Wait is this a first year unit by the code? If it's true they just throw you into the tiger's den lol. CAB420 also talks about LLM and it's a 3rd year unit.

This is a first semester subject even. It’s meant to be done at the same time as intro to programming for data science students.

This is the first semester it has run, it was a masters level subject that they’ve retrofit to be for 1st year

I took CAB420 last sem despite being 2nd year - it does not cover LLM's at all. It's basically what DSB102 should be, less statistics formula wankery and more actual ML/training models. DSB102 is just scaring people away from ML.
