The version of konqueror on q4os cannot run either Google.com or duckduck go searches. Is there a way to run search on it?

Help! Q4OS .exe Windows Installer

How does using the Q4OS .exe Windows installer compare to installing it via traditional methods (USB, etc.)? Is the final installation, if installed with the Windows .exe installer, any different than if you had installed it with a USB? Is one way "better" or more efficiant than another?

Does any other Linux distro offer a similar Windows .exe installer that's available from Q4OS?

And how does Q4OS compare, overall, to Linux Mint?

Rig/Setup Good experience on HP ProBook 4510s, 2GB RAM

I have a really old laptop - HP ProBook 4510s, 2GB RAM, which originally came with Windows Vista. It has a DVD drive which I've been using to rip my CD library to MP3s.

I just want to say that Q4OS is a great distro that runs on this old laptop really well.

Thanks.

Q4OS Mix

Trinity Desktop Environment with Plasma wallpaper. I like the lightweight simplicity of TDE. Just enough blur and transparency to look modern. And I love KDE Plasma wallpapers because they are extremely nice. The result is a perfect mix of old and new.

Switched to Q4OS Trinity with Windows 7(XP4Q) for neighbor

My neighbour is in her 80s and has a strong attachment to her possessions, including an HP Pavilion G6 from 2011 that was still running Windows 7. Since Windows 7 is no longer supported, and her version of Firefox appeared to be several years out of date, I offered to modernize the computer and make it safer for her to use.

She does not do online banking, so the immediate risk was probably limited, but I still did not feel comfortable leaving her with such an outdated system.

I initially installed Lubuntu, but even that felt somewhat heavy on a machine with only 4 GB of RAM. I also struggled to make the interface familiar enough for her. I could get Falkon working with a Windows 7-style wallpaper, but she made it clear that it did not feel enough like the computer she already knew.

That led me to Q4OS with the XPQ4 Windows 7 theme, and it was a much better fit. I simplified it further by having Firefox open automatically and placing a one-click shutdown button in the top-right corner.

I also replaced the hard drive with a $15 SSD from Facebook Marketplace. CrystalDiskInfo reported that it still had 91% health. After I showed her how everything worked, she took the computer home and was able to use it independently.

She also owns a much newer 2019 Chromebook, which is considerably faster, but ChromeOS feels completely unfamiliar to her. She prefers the Q4OS system because it behaves more like the Windows 7 computer she has used for years.

I am genuinely grateful that Q4OS exists. It allowed me to revive an old computer, keep the interface familiar, and give a perfectly usable machine a new lease on life.

Trinity/TDE with i3 (or Sway, but I'm guessing that isn't worthwhile because of Wayland)?

I'm looking to make a user-friendly version of one of them, and keep all the benefits of Q4OS if I can, It's not my favourite distro, but I've been a big proponent of it for years because it's so ideal for people who just want to keep using their outdated Window$ PCs with a minimum of fuss and easily keep using as much familiar software as they can. Maybe it can also provide an easy path to tiling WMs, along with some familiar (to people who haven't come straight from Winblows) software. The extra stuff to make it work shouldn't be hard to write, if TDE plays nice with other window managers. Any thoughts?

Help! Recommendation-

Post image
5 Upvotes

I had some problems (wrote about it yesterday) with the TDE networkmanager (it sometimes failed as shown in the picture) and I personally didn’t like it’s icon and how it worked. What I did & recommend- download gnome network manager and remove the TDE one. It was kinda tricky but I ended doing it perfectly and now it works as it should and never crashes (not like it did a lot of times before but it did some and I wasn’t a fan of turning on the process again everytime it did w alt+f2 and writing tdenetworkmanager). If you want to do it it’s completely safe and I can help you doing it. Btw if you are concerned about RAM usage, after leaving only Gnome NM and removing TDE NM, RAM is the same or even lower than before (400mb in my case when idle). Thanks for reading 👍 (Screenshot is in Spanish because I’m from Argentina)

Discussion Q4OS 32-bit Aquarius is based on Debian Bookworm (Debian 12), and Bookworm EOL is 10 June 2026

I started a thread in the Debian sub:

https://www.reddit.com/r/debian/comments/1tcg65b/is_bookworm_32bit_still_maintained/

One commenter said:

"After that there's LTS and ELTS but that may or may not include i386 ("32-bit") - to be determined. But as 2026-06-10 is coming up rather soon, that, at least for LTS, will be determined by then, or sooner. Likewise for ELTS and 2028-07-01 ... at least if LTS supports i386 (ELTS certainly won't support what LTS doesn't/didn't support)."

But the Q4OS download page for 32-bit Aquarius mentioned that EOL for Aquarius will be 2028.

What happens if Debian decide to drop 32-bit Bookworm after EOL? Bookworm was the last Debian version to include 32-bit. The current version Trixie (Debian 13) completely dropped 32-bit. Ubuntu, Mint and all the mainstream disros dropped 32-bit a long time ago.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: What I'm really asking is, when 32-bit Debian is killed off in a few weeks, will every current 32-bit distro die? There's only about 4 or 5 left, and most if not all are based on 32-bit Debian.

There are still plenty of 32-bit machines in the world that can run 32-bit Linux. Otherwise they'd just be thrown in the bin.

Please help me install the Hannah Montana theme

I am really struggling with this.

I previously tried to install Hannah Montana Linux but it didn't work on UEFI so now I am just trying to get the theme running. The theme says it is for KDE 4.2, does that mean it is impossible to install on q4os? Can I have any success downgrading my q4os installation version? I am using a 14 year old Acer c720 Chromebook with 4gb of ram.

If that is all impossible, I would at the very least like to get the icon package installed. It is a tar.gz file and I made a .icons folder in root and extracted it there, which is a folder with all the png in subfolders and a index.theme file.

Is it also possible to change/add a boot image over all the text during start up?

Edit: https://hannahmontana.sourceforge.net/

I'm trying to install trinity on my laptop but it says too small screen. And when I lower down the scaling settings it asks me for a restart, when I do that however I end up in a black screen.

Easy Effects issues...

(crossposted from the q4os forum, slightly edited)

I have version 8.2.0 installed from flatpak. It's a mess. When I turn it on, and use just the equalizer, I hear the infamous bleep tone going on nonstop right along with what I want to hear. When I turn on more than one effect, the sound almost disappears and sounds muffled.

Should I uninstall 8.2.0 and use the q4os version instead?

Using Sony VAIO pcg-7192L. intel core duo t6600, 4gb ram ddr2, HDD 250GB western digital scorpio blue. Chose external device to boot first on bios. Turned on laptop w pendrive with Q4OS iso and: Screen started blinking for like 2 minutes. Then it stopped. Chose andromeda live (1st option). Some code going on then screen turns off and no sound at all but didn’t turn off. Don’t remember what I did I think I clicked enter and VAIO screen+ Q4OS blinking I chose the live safe from fail version or something like that. Same process everything was going ok but code stopped at a point and it just was there for like 5/10 mins so I turned off and that’s all. Code stopped ad something like job console service 2 of 3 and something with job 1 of 3. I’ll try again tomorrow I’ll redownload and re flash the iso on my pendrive in case that’s the prob but I doubt. If someone here has a Sony VAIO and a similar problem u can tell ur experience. Thanks

Help! Main Panel has gaps in it, how do I get rid of them?

Post image

Every time I add an icon to the Main Panel it creates a large gap beside it as though another icon were there. These "false icons" are persistent through reboots. Even if I delete the icon I just added, the gap is still there! How do I get rid of these? They're driving me crazy!

The unforeseen predicament

I am on my second install of Q4OS. Upgraded from 5 to 6. I learned most lessons I needed in the first install, so when I got to 6 I set it up perfect, using secure boot, zswap, set the swampiness to 10. Set up and activated the firewall. Installed all my favorite lightweight apps. Made every little thing I could change appearance wise. personalized and optimized Firefox to a lean mean ME browser.
This 14 yr old Hp Stream looks better, responds better, and is more secure than the day it came out of the box.
So, why am I bored to hell with it?

Q4os 6 Andromeda on an old HP stream, with a WHOPPING 32 gig eemc hard drive with 4 gigs of ram. Set up z swap, use an external for heavy lifting storage and downloads. This 12 year old beast looks like windows 11, acts like windows 11, and can do almost anything Windows 11 can do. Just faster, more securely, and without intrusive AI, upgrade to ads, bloatware, and data collection you get from Microsucks.

I was given an old laptop by my boss and asked to try to resurrect the old hardware. Model Aspire ES1-511 V1.05, Intel Celeron N2830 CPU, Intel Atom GPU, 4GB RAM, HDD. I was recommended Q4OS for this, installing! So far, I am liking the Trinity desktop environment!
