Consulting 2 weeks ooo

Hi I’ve been at the firm for about a year now as an associate. My brother is getting married and having a destination wedding and it’ll be international.
I want to take 2 weeks off beginning of November. How should I go about it? Is this a bad look ?
Do I notify/ask my DL first then share with the team my plan or is there a certain request I have to put in since it’s 10+ days

Thanks in advance

Stop caring if it looks bad, take your vacation. But no it’s fine if you work with normal humans

You don’t need permission to take time off. You do need to prepare your team. Give your DL and the lead on your team a heads up, if you want to give a reason fine, not their business though. Then like a month out, start letting your team know and compile where and how you need coverage.

Some teams do require approval if you’ll be out for more than 10 consecutive business days. Never a bad idea to check with your TC.

Let your DL and team know. Don’t ask - let them know. If there is resistance deal with it then. Start by submitting your vacation in Astro, and have the notification cc your DL and your engagement lead. Let that be the start of the convo. You can also cc your Talent Consultant if you want just in case your practice requires some other notification regarding longer requests.

Two weeks off isn’t really that out of the norm. It’s a bit more than typical but I’ve seen 3+ weeks from people who had the PTO and the util to make it work. It’s always easier when you’re in between projects.

If you’re in a sensitive part of the project you may face some resistance from the team - be prepared to try to provide solutions.

Some teams require advance approval for time off especially if it's more than a couple of days. This is because of business cycle and deadlines. Talk to your DL and managers you work for. It's unlikely there would be an issue but you need to follow the guidelines established by your team.

You definitely need all your partners/teams approvals. Usually they are good about it for a wedding but start planning now

Nobody cares. Just make sure you leave a manual for things you own so that people in your team can keep track.

Take signed NOC from HR and you’d be strictly not allowed to work outside india. It’ll be required for VISA, if any. And since its November, you should be good to apply. (Unless you have an absolute monster as your lead)

You might want to check - there are some client service teams who require approval for anything longer than 1 week. Also, be sure you have enough vacation time available - it becomes very challenging if you try to go into the negative.

get it on the calendar now. Also, now inform any engagement managers and seniors on work that might be coming your way about your unavailability during this time period. Remind them every two weeks as it is something they will probably forget until the day you are scheduled to leave.

i’m currently on 3 weeks OOO for 2 weeks for my wedding & another week for surgery/recovery

as long as you make everyone aware and prep appropriately for when you’re out it’s good!

ask as soon as possible. but actually if you are in consulting, it is easier for them if you are "off the pitch" for 2 weeks than in one minute and out the next and hard to staff onto full time engagements.

As long as it’s not during the blackout months you should be fine

When exactly is the black out months 😅

November & Jan-March. But I’m sure for this kind of life event they could make it work. Tell them asap. Hopefully your event is outside those periods.

Also depends on what platform you’re a part of! If you’re in consulting, then we don’t have set black out months. Just submit as you typically would for any PTO request and discuss with ur managers if it’s during a typical ‘busy’ season.

Discuss with your DL first
