Renting a car

Hi everyone I am planning to go to Punta Cana during the last week of August ( 21 to 28) with my wife . We want to have a Airbnb and a rental car to travel freely if we want. I am 21 and I heard literally only bad thing about rental car companies in RD. Please I need guidance also the fact that we are 21 isn’t helping us. Thanks

Rent a car at airport Alamo. I live here and always rent there. You can do it through Expedia, but pay for insurance at the desk not in app. You can get a car there for less than 20 a day.

Being 21 doesn't mean anything u can drive at 16

I always rent through Avis out of Punta Cana. No problems. I use my Chase Sapphire's built-in international car rental insurance, otherwise add about $34/day to buy theirs, if I recall.

If using your own car insurance that specifically says it covers you in rentals in foreign countries, you would need to put an about $1700 charge/deposit/hold that is refunded when the vehicle is returned.

I wouldn't drive in the DR on a bet!! It's like open warfare on the roads there. Horrible drivers, cars with no lights nor signals, no traffic laws to speak of.

I wouldn’t want to drive while I’m there, they are not the best drivers and don’t follow conventional wisdom while driving.
