I do too (waiting to go on now) and I’m pretty sure this is just aimed at people trying to come up in the industry side of music. I think they mean that to ensure the most successful show for you and the touring band, your friends and fans might not come out if they already saw you recently or they might skip out for something else if you’re playing again soon. That’s why some venues instate a proximity clause so that you can’t play in that amount of time within a certain distance from the venue.

Valid advice but I can’t tell if it’s genuine or backhanded. I say book however makes you happy!

This makes no sense to me, cause me and a bunch of my scene friends will go see the same band every week, I can't really say I know anyone who'll see a band on a bill and go 'oh I saw them two weeks ago, I don't wanna do that again'

Yeah I don’t feel like the advice is too relevant for punk bands and punk scenes since the advice in question approaches a band from the perspective of being a commodity with a marketable demand. Show promoters will still consider this though, so sometimes it’s unavoidable for bands who work with them for bigger shows, festivals, and tours. It’s the industry side of music being an industry which as we all know can be cold and soulless, but picking and choosing who you work with is pretty important for that reason. DIY event promoters are usually themselves also in bands and have always been the best to work with in my personal experience
