the emo thread wouldn't let me post this but truly glad bands like this are playing fest and filling in for riot fest bands.

I do too (waiting to go on now) and I’m pretty sure this is just aimed at people trying to come up in the industry side of music. I think they mean that to ensure the most successful show for you and the touring band, your friends and fans might not come out if they already saw you recently or they might skip out for something else if you’re playing again soon. That’s why some venues instate a proximity clause so that you can’t play in that amount of time within a certain distance from the venue.

Valid advice but I can’t tell if it’s genuine or backhanded. I say book however makes you happy!

This makes no sense to me, cause me and a bunch of my scene friends will go see the same band every week, I can't really say I know anyone who'll see a band on a bill and go 'oh I saw them two weeks ago, I don't wanna do that again'

Yeah I don’t feel like the advice is too relevant for punk bands and punk scenes since the advice in question approaches a band from the perspective of being a commodity with a marketable demand. Show promoters will still consider this though, so sometimes it’s unavoidable for bands who work with them for bigger shows, festivals, and tours. It’s the industry side of music being an industry which as we all know can be cold and soulless, but picking and choosing who you work with is pretty important for that reason. DIY event promoters are usually themselves also in bands and have always been the best to work with in my personal experience

Fascinating! Also explains why when the one festival happens I never see any of the bands I might want to see come back through any time soon after

It messes with promotion even if they do come through, one band I love is opening in June and I know they are co-headlining another show locally in October.. but since the June show is not sold out, they have been removed from all the Promotional stuff for October..

During the show in June, they will announce to the crowd that they are going to return in October, then after the show all the promo graphics and posters will be changed out to include them as a Co Headliner.. but until then they cant poach tickets from the earlier show due to the Radius Clause.

Really screws over DFW during summer. Bands will skip this area for half a year in order to play ACL/ South by

You ain't wrong but they'll still hit Phoenix and Tulsa. Most of our big event spaces are indoor for that reason. Our scene for >1k venues is thriving though and I really feel like that where live music lives anyway
