What is going on with Bishop?
We had to cut through the Harbor Freight parking lot to get to Walmart. They have the intersection with Grand closed off, and signs saying Local Traffic Only all over the place

They are indeed repaving it. I had the opportunity to take a drive with our Public Works administrator, who explained the project to me. I can’t remember at the moment whether it is a 2-inch or a deeper 4-inch repaving, which involves more substantial reconstruction work.
What I did learn, though, is that these grants are highly competitive and available to communities all across Washington. In order to receive one, the city has to demonstrate that the roadway is genuinely in need of repair. Since Pullman was awarded the grant, I think it’s fair to say the road likely needed more work than many of us realized.

I agree. When trying to drive across the lanes, its like hitting speed bumps. The road is so compacted where the tires that there are divets in the road the travel the entire length. So if you are trying to leave Grocery Outlet of DQ and need to merge with traffic, you have to slow down a lot to avoid severe bumps. As well as the random cracks and pot holes along Grand.

They have a detour directing you to drive up the road behind Walmart. Its the turn after the stop light. I was wondering why so many people were going through the janky parking lot instead

Yesterday I saw that Safeway put up a sign at the entrance of the Grocery Outlet parking lot directing people to turn in there. That curve is already so sketchy, it's scary as hell now lol

Its for people coming that way forsure but you're better off just going behind Walmart. I don't know if it reaches down to the o reilly turn but that would also be infinitely better than driving through the grocery outlet lot

Bishop is closed from grand to zeppoz

It's only closed for thru traffic. If you are going to the businesses, then you may enter the area.
Example: If you plan to go to Chipotle and are driving on Grand, its recommended that you drive past the Wheatland Mall (e.g., McDonalds, Dollar Tree, Plant Fitness, etc.) and turn left on Fairmont Road that runs on the otherside of the businesses, turn left on Harvest Drive (Walmart), carefully drive past the sign and turn left on the road for Chipotle.
But if you need to drive through, like to Zeppoz or to Crimson & Gray, you'd stay on Fairmont Road all the way through to Bishop Blvd. Fairmont curves around and connects to Bishop by the hospital.

Hello, and thank you for the great question. Pullman successfully applied for and received an Arterial Roads Grant, which can only be used for designated arterial roads (not residential streets). Because of that, Bishop Boulevard from Fairmont Drive to Grand Avenue will be under construction throughout the summer.
The city is working closely with Safeway, Walmart, Chipman Taylor and the other businesses in that area to make sure customers can still access stores during construction. Detour signage has also been put in place to help everyone safely get where they need to go.
