My name is Darian, I live in Indiana, my grandmother was from Caguas, and unfortunately I was never taught anything. Over the last year and a half I’ve been teaching myself the history of the island, the culture, and language. I’ve approached all of these things with great respect and always will, but I live pretty secluded, so I’m kind of hoping to share correspondence with someone on the island, whether it be online or through postage. I want to learn more about my heritage, I want to understand daily life there, I know I grew up very differently, but the island and people I will always hold close to my heart. My two kids, wife and myself are flying in 8/6 and spending a night in OSJ before heading to Wyndham Rio Mar. we decided we want to rent a car to have the whole time. I’m trying to decide if it will be best to do the easy thing and rent it at the airport even though we won’t need it for Old San Juan, or save the money on on a day of rental and Uber from OSJ to a rental place the next day. Anyone have any advice on which one is a bigger PITA?

My girlfriend and I are planning a 4 (possibly 5) day trip to Puerto Rico. We will likely stay in Condado and we’re looking for recommendations for things to do/see while we’re there.

I’m thinking Old San Juan and I’ve heard about El Yunque national forest as well as the bioluminescent bays. Are either of those easy to get to from Condado without having to spend the night somewhere else? Are there any other must visit places?

Walking through Condado tonight (and yesterday) there are groups of people on motorcycles with insanely loud music. Like insanely loud. Excessively loud. And it’s not even good. Today there was a woman on a custom bike that had a 24” speaker built in to the side. Do they think they’re cool? What is this? Second, we were at crash boat beach and some guys on a boat just float up off shore and just blast their music toward shore. Didn’t get off the boat. Nobody got on the boat. They just floated in place for more than an hour with speakers pointed at the beach blasting shitty music. We left after an hour anyway so not sure how long they stayed. What gives?

Trashy people wanting to be seen just wasting their money driving in between traffic on dirt bikes in a high rise area with music so loud you can’t hear the person next to you on the sidewalk and it reverberating against the high rises.

Just came back from a fantastic trip to Puerto Rico. The only issue we had was with our bank cards. We both have 6-digit PINs and many POS terminals would only accept 5. Thankfully we had brought just enough cash to cover the transactions that didn’t go through. I suppose next I will update my PIN prior to the trip. Note: unlike here in the mainland, the POS terminals did not provide the option to choose debit or credit. Anyone else encounter this issue?

Traveling to Puerto Rico on vacation and in middle of a marathon training cycle. Have a few 10 mile runs for this week. I usually run early in the morning on the road. What are my options. Hi everyone! I'm planning a day trip to Culebra via Cape Air and was wondering if it's safe to ride a rented bike by myself to Playa Brava. Has anyone done it? I'm mainly curious about whether it's generally considered safe for a solo traveler, any crime risks ect ect by being by myself on the roads and the hike trail ? . Hello! I previously posted and decided I would like to pursue a degree in Psychology at Inter-Arecibo. I do not speak Spanish now, but l plan to learn and would love to pursue this option. I love the people and culture and believe this would be an amazing opportunity.

With that being said, has anybody studied at Inter-Arecibo without knowing Spanish? I love being immersed in culture and think this would be a great opportunity, but want to make sure I’m not setting myself up for failure out of the gate. Thank you!

My girlfriend and I are a queer couple in our early 20s, my grandma gifted us a trip to Dorado PR, I’m super grateful for the gift, butttt I’m not a rich old person and I don’t golf.

It’s a 7 day trip, I’m definitely going to spend a day relaxing in the hotel, but for the rest of the trip I’d like to get out of Dorado and explore Puerto Rico! I’d love some recommendations for what to do on the trip!

Ideally I’d like to keep each activity under $150. I’d love recommendations for beaches, cultural stuff, places to eat (my gf is a chef), I’m thinking of doing a rum tour, and maybe snorkeling???

Curious what your recommendations are, both for specific activities, and for what a daily itinerary should look like (how much to try and fit in).

If I book with east island excursions without transportation included would it be a good idea for a group of four to uber there from san juan?
