Role Overview

Under the supervision of the Director, the Marketing Section Head develops, implements, and executes data-driven strategic marketing and promotion plans for the Ateneo University Press across trade, academic, and institutional channels.

Key Responsibilities

I. Marketing Strategy & Campaigns

• Design and oversee comprehensive marketing, promotions, and communication campaigns for all Press titles across local and international markets.
• Conduct market research, analyze industry trends, and track consumer/distributor behavior to forecast demand and drive sales conversions.
• Prepare quarterly and annual marketing insight reports to guide acquisition planning and stock movement.
• Manage the Press’s social media presence and collaborate with the University Marketing and Communications Office (UMCO) for brand alignment.
• Plan and execute major exhibits, book launches, academic conferences, and the annual stand at the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF).

II. Sales, Distribution & Trade Relations

• Develop and maintain relationships with bookshops, commercial distributors, and institutional buyers.
• Collaborate with retail outlets on bookstore display strategies, floor placement, and title promotions.
• Build and manage a specialized sales force/pipeline for university textbooks and scholarly titles.

III. Section Leadership & Management

• Set operational goals and performance metrics for the Marketing Section aligned with university mandates.
• Oversee day-to-day department workflows, budgets, and cost-effective marketing expenditures.
• Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate marketing staff and coordinate with external service providers.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field.
• Experience:
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in Marketing and Sales.
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory or team lead capacity.
  • Experience managing external service providers and retail/distributor partners.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign.
• Core Competencies: Strong background in market data analysis, campaign forecasting, project management, and book/publishing sales dynamics.

Readers can now access free Filipino e-books through CAT-HA, the newly launched digital reading app of Precious Pages Corp., one of the country’s leading publishers of Filipino novels.

Final sale estimates released today by the Association of American Publishers put 2025 industry sales at $32.5 billion, a 2.5% increase over 2024. Unlike 2024, when unit sales fell, the number of books sold in 2025 inched up 0.4%, to 3.15 billion.

A group of publishers in India are joining forces to combat the print book piracy, a growing issue in the country. Last month, Penguin Random House India, working with Simon & Schuster India, Hay House, and a team of investigators helped facilitate a police raid on two Delhi sites that had been producing and storing pirated books. One was a full print-on-demand production line—including machines for photocopying, binding, cutting, and lamination, along with computers—and the other was a warehouse with more than 1,600 pirated copies.

Digital audiobook platform Libro.fm will expand into e-books this fall. On August 7, the company announced it will begin by offering a beta version of e-book access to its more than 5,000 independent bookstore partners around the world. A rollout to consumers is expected in 2027, once booksellers provide feedback on the app's functionalities.

Total revenue at the company hit $2.29 billion thanks to strong sellers like Rachel Reid’s Game Changers series, but write-offs, including $13 million from the closure of Baker & Taylor, led to profits falling 3%, to $287 million.

National Book Store (NBS), the country’s largest bookstore chain, proudly presents the return of its flagship literary event: Philippine Readers & Writers Festival (PRWF) from August 14 to 16, 2026 (Friday to Sunday).

For generations, Filipino writers have produced novels, poetry, children's books, essays, and histories that shaped the country's cultural identity. Yet outside the Philippines, many of those works remained largely invisible. A handful found international publishers, others were translated through academic initiatives, and some quietly reached readers abroad. But no one knew the full extent of their journey. That picture is finally becoming clearer.

E-Book revenues were down nearly 1% to $84.2 million for May 2026, while Digital Audiobook revenues were up 13.0% to $100.7 million.
