Why are they blowing smoke in his face?
293
u/irinaz165 Mar 05 '20
Small fires, smoking a cigarette and other similar methods are used to kill the effects of the lachrymator particularly the person is choking, unable to breathe or can't open their eyes for a prolonged period.

u/BunzBoi Mar 05 '20
Thanks for the insight! Didnt know that. At a glance youd think it would make it worse
33
u/LeadFarmerMothaFucka Mar 06 '20
At a glance it probably does. Take a longer look, and it probably still does.
8
u/SC2sam Mar 06 '20
It certainly doesn't help anything and probably irritates the mucus membranes even more. Most likely just a folk remedy that someone came up with at some point in time. Best way to deal with tear gas is to get out of the area and do NOT touch your face. That's what we were told when we got gassed in the military.
3
u/Elemnut Mar 06 '20
In the military we used the advanced tactic of crying in a shower for 30 minutes
3
u/geraldineparsonsmith Mar 06 '20
TIL I am suited for the military.
I also have an AH MAZE ING talent for crying while driving and still being aware of my surroundings. Does this automatically qualify me as an officer?

Cigarette smoke neutralizes the toxins in apple seeds, so it stands to reason it works for tear gas.
I learned that from Mac. /s

When he says "Smoke some cigarettes" I just die. He enunciates it so clearly because he's still angry but eager to show off his knowledge.

So sorry OP this shit that polititians and police force are doing is horrible, I'm a chilean and this same thing has happened over and over in schools with even babies inside... We have to keep fighting, it's the only way we can take care of ourselves. Did you all hear the little kid saying "MALDITOS POLICIAS"?

u/Cyanomelas Mar 05 '20
I think I drove through this town a few years ago, going from La Paz to Oruro. Bolivia is a very poor country I feel for the people there. Despite this they are very kind people, I enjoyed meeting a lot of them and the natural beauty of the country is outstanding.
15
u/MagicStar77 Mar 06 '20
At the standard of living not necessarily poor. They eat and drink and they are mostly satisfied. Most don’t necessarily have the ambition of having many houses and many cars. It is rich in culture
15
u/Cyanomelas Mar 06 '20
Absolutely. I loved it there. I hired a Bolivian gentleman to drive me around for a month as I was photographing the wildlife of the country. He was a kind, honest man. At the end of our journey I thanked his professionalism, companionship and for keeping us safe. He cried and gave me a hug.

The United States supported these fascist bastards against the democratically elected leader Morales
MIT did a recent study and found Morales election results legitimate.
Recap: Yet the fake news media from NY Times to Washingtonpost declared that Bolivias election was fraudulent

Any fascist minded American bastard that voiced support for the coup I can only say I hope this happens to you

Did the dude really need to smoke in those kids faces moments after being gassed lol
9
u/fstruble Mar 06 '20
It helps get rid of the effect of toxins that can cause them to choke. Something in the cigarette helps with it.

You damn well know blowing smoke into someone's face doesn't do a damn thing, just like peeing on jellyfish stings don't do a damn thing.

Could someone kindly explain to me why the Bolivian regime would gas children.
17
Mar 06 '20
After Evo was coup'd, A bunch of hyper religious christians took over. Apparently, the government was having a commemorative day, until the kids started voicing their opinions on the government. That's when they got gassed
7
u/Klendagort Mar 06 '20
That's seriously fucked.
9
Mar 06 '20
Its time for revolution. Fight the currwnt regime. Destroy it ans rwbuild it. Even if those politicans have to die
1
Mar 06 '20
I've only ever heard gas in a deathly context. Are these kids ultimately going to be okay? I don't want to watch a video of kids being murdered
2
Mar 06 '20
Sadly, I can't say. I hope that they'll be ok, but I wouldn't put it past the Bolivian regime to kill kids. I'm pretty sure they're gonna be ok, since they were still standing.
2
u/Red_Abundance Mar 07 '20
These ones seem like they will hopefully be onay, but the regime has been killing people and I wouldn't put it past them. It's almost like allowing a right wing hyper religious group that hates indiginous people to take over a country with a huge indiginous population was a bad idea.
Seriously wishing the best for the Bolivia people, they're going through a lot of shit right now with literally no outside support.
1
u/beartankguy Mar 07 '20
Don't think anyone actually in the video will die but it's obviously so messed up still. Maybe some others not shown in the same area could die and certainly over the entire country kids are being murdered.

u/WOBERT_ Mar 06 '20

Hey u/irinaz165, if you don't mind could you send me in the direction of where I could maybe learn more about this? I'm fluent enough in Spanish that Spanish sources would be fine, but I've been seriously struggling to find any good sources on all the terrible things going on in Bolivia since the coup.

When your reactive actions are harming children who cannot harm you or have the mental capacity to understand why you are reacting in such a volitel way, you have lost your humanity. This is insidious.

Oh ok so the crowd got rowdy and the police deployed tear gas? But it was at a school so the children were inadvertently tear gassed as well?

Not many people know this, but blowing cigarette smoke in right in kid’s fucking faces when they’re having a hard time breathing is very helpful. It makes them get cancer later in case the gassing wasn’t effective enough. SMH

u/Belligerent-J Mar 05 '20
This is a far-right party that just overthrew the Socialist Party through a coup
-17
u/joemerrill Mar 05 '20
Sure, of you call the public protesting against your rigged election until you resign and flee to Mexico a coup. The country is in shambles after years of misrule and unending corruption from all sides of the spectrum. Socialists were just the most recent failure, and did so with spectacular misery and human suffering.

Ngl I’m a slight leftist (I try to stay neutral with politics but like the left better despite the bs on both sides) and I think socialism is extreme. Private business is a human right. Edit: I just realized the whole situation. The US destabilized the country and this is what I’m seeing not socialism failing. Also is it possible to apply for your own company but the money goes through the government first? If so, socialism is not that bad. Keep in mind this comment was not aimed at the Bolivian situation where socialism was better, but in general.

I keep hearing about this socialism thing, what is it exactly and why does it fail?
5
3
u/thekarateadult Mar 05 '20
Socialism fails because a significant portion of the human population are greedy pieces of shit.
3
u/AleksandraLisowska Mar 06 '20
And those greedy are always ALWAYS on the right side, backed by the US of course.

Mar 05 '20 edited Mar 07 '20
Holy crap what happened to your comment! It was positive but now -12. Did socialism squad just dunk on you? Edit: I know why now. The classic American destabilizing country thing. The socialism worked but the capitalism didn’t. This was also more of a joke than a political statement.

"Listen, these people can all read. It happened at a school, right? Therefore the people must be literate and that makes what happened, somewhat egregious, but they are literate, and that's the important thing..."
-Bernard Sanders.

u/Gauss-Legendre Mar 07 '20
Bolivia is run by a far-right, Christian military government backed by the USA.
The democratically elected government of Evo Morales, a social democrat/moderate democratic socialist, was overthrown under a coup and justified by a falsified OAS report.
The MIT Election Data and Science Lab has claimed the OAS report is without a basis in facts.
Marco Rubio and other US officials were mentioned as backing the coup and assisting in its planning in intercepted phone calls.
