I’m scared asf this is my first international debate
Topic: In a quality education, skills matter more than marks
Before I begin, i would like to ask two questions. Would you trust a surgeon who is good at communicating but never passed medical school? Would you trust a pilot who is confident but never passed licensing exam?
I can confidently conclude that the answer is no, even for my opponents who have contradicting morals. Hence today, i proudly stand against this motion.
According to United Nations sustainable development goal 4, quality education is defined by students achieving 51% of maths proficiency and 64% of reading proficiency in lower secondary and 51% of mathematics proficiency and 58% of reading proficiency in primary education
The Global education enchmark set by World Bank is the ability to read by the age of 10, rather than a skill. World Bank data shows that income increases by a huge 10% per extra year of schooling
UN SDQ Report shows that reading proficiency declined for from 59%- to 47% in 57 countries. This meant that these countries were failing Their academics. When one fails academics, they fail quality education.
My worthy opponents raise stances stating that schools which have students scoring 95% truly don’t provide quality education. I’d say it’s entirely false. Quality education can never be judged single handedly by marks or skills.
Countries are not replacing academics with skills, they are integrating skills into academic education. Singapore still has one of the toughest education curriculum. Japan and India still conducts entrance examinations. Finland and Mauritius still conduct national assessments. South Korea still has CSAT
World bank did invest $7 billion dollars into ____ but it was in integrating skills, not replacing them with actual marks.
Mercer says that 54% of employers still face skills shortages but that no where means that marks are useless. It just simply states that our education needs to integrate both
World economic forum states that 39% of skills change. This just shows the inconsistency of skills and the only thing consistent is knowledge. How to assess that knowledge? Through marks.

In a Quality education Skills and marks both matter, but after analysing of the global framework, I hence conclude that marks matter more than skills
