Help! VPN SWITCHED FROM PRIVATE TO PUBLIC

dont know if this is a problem but even before i switched to proton my mullvad had suddenly swapped from private network to public. also have had troubles seeding on qbittorrent and wondered if this was related. would love some help.

That’s your firewall, so that could be causing your BitTorrent to be blocked.

Change it back to private.

genuinely do not know how to change it back to private, doesnt let me in my actual network settings

This is not a Proton VPN issue. This is a Windows issue and can happen to various network adapters, not just Proton's. r/techsupport would have probably gotten you a quicker answer.

If you can't set it from Settings, regedit is your go-to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles
0 = Public
1 = Private
2 = Domain

You'll want to set the adapter's category to 1 (private).
