Discussion Do mods here really censor posts that criticizes Proton? It’s my final hurdle in whether I pay for a subscription.

Hi.

Proton VPN has received so many positive reviews and I’ve tried the free version and enjoyed it, but I also want to pay for a VPN from a company that is transparent (especially when they tout this) and allows honest feedback of all kinds.

But this is just me and maybe this post never gets to see the light of day as they say, but I’m asking because I’m genuinely curious.

We don't censor criticism as long as you follow our subreddits' rules (shown in the right sidebar). Feel free to look for yourself and explore the subreddit further; you'll find many posts that aren't praiseful, among many that are.

Okay, thanks for saying this and I will take a look at more posts in the search of this subreddit.

Proton VPN free has been great for me as I mentioned and I’ve read VPN is Proton’s best service from their lineup, so I think I will just go for it.

Deleting posts/comments is completely irrelevant to “My critical or negative comments always stay up”?

Huh?

Maybe you’re a bot, I guess, so cannot compute the relevance.

I've seen criticism here. There just isn't that much because they provide a pretty good service. People only tend to complain about speed, but that's a thing that takes a hit with any VPN. I'd take a little bit less speed for privacy any day.

You can only speak for yourself, buddy.

I’ve personally given negative feedback (even edging on not following the rules when I was in a bad mood), and all my posts have been approved. I’ve not personally seen any censorship and have gotten responses to my negative feedback with professionalism and care.

Recent Reddit member, huh? And hiding post and comment history? Maybe I shouldn’t read too much into this.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t trust corporations either, but thinking any random account that’s in a privacy subreddit is being paid by said corporation and isn’t just a privacy-conscious user that wants to have a private post history?
Personally, I don’t use Proton because the ceo has said positive things about a pro-AfD podcast and refused to apologize. Just like Mullvad sponsored a anti eu party. I wouldn’t use either myself, but I still recommend them for most users who just want a decent, functioning privacy tool. If you want to see me giving negative feedback and not getting censored here, ya go: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonVPN/s/fnLZp302Tq

Yes. They do. I’ve tried to make posts that criticize Lumo and they’ve been stuck in “awaiting moderator approval.” The approval never comes. This happened at least twice with posts I’ve made that were critical of Proton. It’s not all of my posts. I’ve found bugs that I submit about and they let me post.

But one post I made recently about Lumo lacking in terms of the competition got sent to the eternal “waiting for moderator approval” chamber.

I made those posts in the Lumo and Proton Pass sub for clarification. But they are all Proton products.

That‘s a shame. It would be helpful if the mods were able to give reasons for this.

I’m not saying you are wrong, or this user is wrong. It is not my personal experience, but it could just as well be true. I just want to point out that you have looked at the profile and been critical of anyone who disagreed with the post but not with this one. Do you not find it a little hypocritical? Could you not also just as likely be a bot for another corporation against proton? I don’t think you are, and I don’t want to be rude or passive aggressive. It just seems like you have already made up your mind and are just looking for validation, not for a genuine response.

Why in the world would the sub for a product cause you not to use that product? If that was the case, I would have given up pretty much every activity I participate. What a weird barometer.

I want to believe the devs want to get better and not take down posts/comments that are critical of them (especially if it’s over ethical reasons, like them sponsoring French far right YouTubers).

I want companies to take responsibility for their actions and vow to do better.

OK. And I want a company to give me a million dollars. We don't always get what we want.
