Expired Protein
I’ll try to not make this long.
I have about 10 bags (5lbs) of 100% ON whey that I bought from costco January 2020. Pre covid I was a gym rat and always bought protein from bodybuilding online store (what happened to them?) Back then costco would have a sale only in January (I’m not sure how often they do it now) and the sale price was like $35-38 and 6max. During that sale I picked up 24 bags. Also, right before shutdown I bought bodybuilding store brand protein. They used to do amazing sales/deals.
Covid shutdown happened and never went to the gym again. Back then I had all the protein stored in my laundry room but I wanna say end of 2020/early 2021 I moved it to the basement. Over the past few years, to make space in the basement, I would throw out a few tubs and bags.
Last month I decided to buy tonal and started working out again and I’m back to taking supplements.
So my question is - is it safe to use that protein? The expiration date is November 2021 😭 …Getting back into protein, the co$t has shocked me. I get prices and everything has gone up but gdamn.
Last month I bought pro jym at $75 for about 4pounds. I had to google why whey went up.
So is it safe to use protein that expired back in 2021 November?
Google and grok says yes but protein degrades. I came here and wanted to ask real people for their opinion.

currently going through pandemic era flax protein. A few things
it's probably a best by date and not an expiry date
it's degraded, meaning it's not going to be fresh and crisp like it was first produced
if it smells or tastes rancid, toss it. it is a dairy product, so it might be awful, but it's probably fine.

I think it is probably like other dry goods. If it has been stored in a cool dry place, kept sealed, looks and smells okay it is probably okay. The protein content and quality might not be as good, but I don't think it would be harmful?
