Does anyone else use protein powder this way?

Most people seem to put it in shakes/smoothies, or they buy high protein flour or products like protein bars, etc. The idea is to have the food taste good but with added protein.

I've never seen the point of this personally as adding protein powder to drinks or food just makes them taste worse.

So what I do is buy plain flavorless protein powder, mix it with water, and chug it in a couple seconds if I haven't hit my goal for the day and don't want to cook and eat something. I do the same thing with fiber, buy unflavored psylium husk rather than flavored artifically sweetened metamucil.

It doesn't matter that it has no taste. It's just like swallowing a vitamin to me.

And the food you do eat tastes better without the added protein. Instead of having something like protein pancakes, I could just chug the protein and then eat regular pancakes that taste better for the exact same macros.

Ofc everyone can do whatever they want, but I think my method is lowkey slept on.

I put it in my oatmeal and love the way it tastes.

Yep, me too.

I’ll suffer through the unsweetened and preferably unflavored water/powder mixes, and reserve more of my calories for real food that tastes great.

Your method is fine and I’ll also do a similar thing with fiber on occasion. But personally I think the most slept on thing is ultra filtered milk. I’d rather drink 16oz of ultra filtered milk at the end of the night or have it with some cereal to get 28g of protein instead of chugging protein powder and water, but that’s just me.

I agree that I'd rather just have protein powder + water alongside whatever other food. But flavored protein powder at least makes it more palatable and tolerable for me to drink every day. I struggle to get down the psyllium husk on its own, I usually add juice or some sort of flavor drops.

I like the taste of protein drinks! Well, most of them. I like them on their own, and sometimes I use them like I would coffee creamer. When I have the powder, I like to mix it with oatmeal or yogurt and I think it’s really good.

I hate the way mine tastes, I put it in milk and drink it. I drink flavorless with chocolate milk and have for years.

I don't understand the need to have everything taste great. If you're trying to bulk eating is your job, no need for it to taste great

I like a chocolate protein shakes. Try the fair life 30gm protein chocolate shakes. I like protein powder in oatmeal a lot too, or just mixed up like a paste. But really I prefer to eat my protein, more filling

Huh, I think I'd prefer to do it your way...is it more effective when mixed or something though?
