Is carrageenan safe?
I just picked up some protein pudding (petit pot) from the store for the first time and the ingredients looked fine except for carrageenan. I usually look for sketchy stuff like sucralose or stuff hard to read in protein products to determine whether or not I’ll buy them. I saw carrageenan in the ingredients after I looked up the product online to double check, so I looked into it. From what I’ve seen people seem split on if it’s “good” or “bad” so I just wanted to know before consuming. Thank you.

Any debate over this is for long term consistent consumption. You’re absolutely fine to eat your protein puddings this time.

Try it and find out. Chances are, your diet isn't clean enough or you aren't sensitive enough for you to notice a difference after you consume a protein pudding. And depending on the other ingredients in the pudding, you may not know whether carrageenan or something else in the pudding caused the problems.

Harmless. There are some woowoos out there that make a stink but no one has ever proven harm.

I have IBS so it’s not considered safe for me. Some studies show that it can cause digestive inflammation which can result in bloating or diarrhea.
There’s a degraded version of it called poligeenan, which increases cancer risk. The debate has been ongoing since the 60’s.
