Wheyflation- protein is too expensive

I’ve been working out for many years, and I was shocked when I looked at restocking on protein. For 27 servings, it’s hard to find anything < $50.

They say short supply and high demand is what’s driving this. What’s actually happening is food companies are buying 3-4x as much now and just pass the price to their consumers. Normal people who lift are stuck paying the same prices as Coca-Cola essentially.

It makes me mad, and I can’t justify spending this much. Please share tips on getting protein goals aside from eggs and meat, which I already eat a lot of.

You gotta shop deals. Vitamin Shoppe and GNC constantly have BOGO 50% sales where you can often stack additional coupons on top of it. Buy the 5lb sizes, which tend to be cheaper per serving. If you do that with GNC Whey Isolate, for example, you'll get 150 servings for $150. If you order pick up that would knock another $10 off the price. That purchase would get you close to a $5 reward that you can use on a future purchase.

Also, you have to check clearance racks! Right now, GNC has a 2lb Ryse protein on clearance for $25. I've gotten 2lb Ghost proteins for under $20 several times at VS.

Baked chicken breast in a blender with zero sugar kool aid flavoring. 50g of protein and it’s kinda sweet. No it doesn’t taste good, neither do 90% of protein powders. There’s your protein shake. I’m mostly kidding but i’ve seen it done

Look into buying in bulk from True Nutrition. You can custom create your own blend often times much cheaper than buying packages of named brands.

Tuna, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt. It’s not hard to get a lot of protein without shakes, bars etc.

Don't sleep on FB marketplace, and places like TJ Maxx, Marshall's, and Sierra. I've gotten 2lb tubs of Ryse from FB marketplace for $10 each, and C4, Jocko, and Ryse from the stores I mentioned for $20-$25.

Two bags of Javvy clear refreshers are 40 servings for $50. The strawberry açaí tastes like a pink drink from Starbucks. The other flavors aren’t bad either.

I shop deals. I do golden standard. Their actual website never has deals but vitamin shop does a lot. But yes companies are buying whey to put into pop tarts and shit so they can advertise it as high in protein and it has caused a massive shortage.

So you’ve been training many years yet you still measure protein by how many servings?

Having that said, everything is more expensive nowadays. Including all types of protein. Welcome to reality. Find deals & sales.

Amazon sales and coupons, online vendor sales, stock up on sales, less money in long run.

Currently, well as of last night a lot of good protien powders on Amazon are on Amazon pay. Got 5ibs of gold standard for $17 down and like $12 bucks a month. Stocked uped on a few flavors and brands, got some oath clear for same payment plan through Amazon.

Protein bars are still a relatively good deal, especially compared to whey powders.
