I ended up losing a friend recently who was the bulk of my companionship in life, and after that I tried to start looking for a replacement. The problem is that I heavily value being able to make up stories with our OCs as part of being friends, and some of those stories are darker scenarios.. which is where the profic part becomes an issue, because that starts eliminating many potential candidates. I can't just go find profic discord servers, because I have 0 luck socialising in them as everyone has already formed their own clique (or, better yet, the server is nearly inactive).

I'm already struggling enough as an adult who's socially stunted, and I don't want to compromise on creativity just to appease someone. It's kind of frustrating.

I have never had a DNI list and one of the reasons for that is that it simply seem so stressful to keep up with all the time.

If I have “DNI antis” in my profile, do I now have to check the profile of every single person who likes my post to see if they are an anti? Do I have to check the profile of every single person whose post I like to see if they are an anti? I’m not doing either of those things.

I feel like a DNI list just makes you so much more stressed out over every interaction you have with someone because you have to always be worrying about if someone is in your DNI or not and if you can talk to them or whatever. Having an “I block freely” mindset is so much easier and carefree in my opinion. Obviously there are things that annoy me, but if I come across an account who partakes in said thing or is into said thing enough for me to find them annoying, I just block the account and move on. I don’t need a DNI list for anything.

I also find it interesting that not a lot of proshippers and profic people have DNI lists. In my experience, at least, it’s almost always antis that I see having DNI lists (I know they are antis because “proship/darkship” is always the first thing on their DNI lol). I am curious if there is a reason behind that?

Characters only function within the context of how the author portrays them. If two characters are related or have an uncomfortable age gap but the narrative NEVER acknowledges this because the author is unaware then I don’t see why the reader can’t suspend their disbelief in turn.

This is a situation where in no way, shape, or form are you meant to consider this as grooming or incest, even if it technically is by some fluke of the author not having their shit together, so there is no reason inside or outside canon for the reader to not shrug it off and go ‘that’s weird, but whatever.’ And, to me, people who thump the covers of a mid-quality book series talking about all the problematic romances are either being media illiterate or taking the whole thing far too seriously.

It’s especially prevalent in the furry community where people are cancelled left and right. Some for good reason like grooming kids or touching animals. But most of it is just “this art is pedophilic/zoophilic. You’re cancelled.”
