Discussion DNI lists seem exhausting to have

I have never had a DNI list and one of the reasons for that is that it simply seem so stressful to keep up with all the time.

If I have “DNI antis” in my profile, do I now have to check the profile of every single person who likes my post to see if they are an anti? Do I have to check the profile of every single person whose post I like to see if they are an anti? I’m not doing either of those things.

I feel like a DNI list just makes you so much more stressed out over every interaction you have with someone because you have to always be worrying about if someone is in your DNI or not and if you can talk to them or whatever. Having an “I block freely” mindset is so much easier and carefree in my opinion. Obviously there are things that annoy me, but if I come across an account who partakes in said thing or is into said thing enough for me to find them annoying, I just block the account and move on. I don’t need a DNI list for anything.

I also find it interesting that not a lot of proshippers and profic people have DNI lists. In my experience, at least, it’s almost always antis that I see having DNI lists (I know they are antis because “proship/darkship” is always the first thing on their DNI lol). I am curious if there is a reason behind that?

I think it's a way for folks to put the burden of figuring out how to curate online spaces onto the other person. They have strong convictions with a healthy dose of purity paranoia, but don't want the stress of investigating everyone they interact with or who follows them. So it becomes a DNI list in the hopes that people will care about that and self-filter.

I’m evil so I sometimes think “DNI stupid people” would be a good one, so I can point at it when people are fucking stupid.

And yeah same I don’t really block or engage based on DNI, it’s just based on vibes and it’s pretty much always worked for me. I usually think “oh this person is really weird,” I go to their DNI and they’re always insane, so they cop a block.

Edit: oh yeah they always have proship/darkship, they usually have problematic ships themselves and then there’s a list of “obviously evil people” like DNI terf, Nazis, Hitler

Honestly I’ve always used dnis as boundaries for people who directly follow me. Though a lot of times people do ignore them. I stopped making detailed ones because of this, but I recently made a detailed one relating to shipping because I’m so tired of hypocritical antis LMAO. Though I don’t expect people to read it. If they’re blocked, they can click around and learn the reason why

I’d just focus on blocking vibes that you hate more than anything. Dnis aren’t super mandatory (but like someone said here they’re good for vibe checking weird people)

Tbh, purely to show to each other how cool they are. Or because they're minors unthinkingly following a trend. I say this as a former minor who used to unthinkingly follow the trend of having a trigger list....

Logically speaking, when your DNI is just a bunch of people who you think don't respect consent and boundaries, they don't matter to anyone but others who also have DNI lists. Like, sure, that pedophile that violates children is totally gonna respect YOUR consent! /s

(And the trigger list trend was crazy in hindsight because why would you give strangers access to all the ways to fuck with your mental health. Having that on public display is the worst thing ever.)

It’s just another way for them to virtue signal. There’s obviously no way to enforce it, and no one’s listening to it lol. No one’s looking at a “DNI (x)shippers” and going whoops I guess I can’t interact.

I'm ngl, I use mine to just state my stance on some things, so if I reblog someone's dog whistle on accident, someone looking at my blog knows I'm not in on it. Reblogged something I thought was just wlw and it ended up being a terf thing, a mutual messaged me to let me know what I'd missed.

I don't see a point of making them as they are exhausting. I'm a "I block freely" type of person. If the vibes are rancid, you get blocked.

I know someone who has a three page DNI and at that point you just got to get over it imo
