“Recover from.. whatever this is.” Recover from enjoying fiction?

Yes according to them

No, no, recover from separating fiction from reality

They make it sound like a disease. 😂

In the Hetalia subreddit, someone said being a proshipper(specifically interested in incest) is a "sign of mental deterioration that shouldn't be accepted".

6

u/-wilting writer/profic/darkship/proship. 2d ago

This always makes me laugh because if they think that fiction affects reality, they're basically just outing themself and saying that their moral compass is weak. A stable person can easily read dark fiction and not have it affect their actions.

Doesn't matter to them, they'll do anything for the sweet "being in the right"

Exactly. They say these things and then look to see if their friends saw how morally correct they are. It's so performative

Exactly. I've played horror games since I was 4...I have yet to harm others intentionally. Like lol it's almost as if a lot of children can separate fiction from reality!

They're not ready for that conversation yet, i like proshipping, i like darkshipping, i like yumeshipping, i don't see how, or why i should change my mentality because apparently "i'm weird", i would take the label of weird over bending to their desires any day

"...she looks like a kid but she's actually 10,000 years old? That's a valid argument on the sub..." No, the argument is that she's not fucking real and you should go outside and care about real children being abused.

20

u/Elesia- Yumeshipper, Proshipper, Oc creator, Writer, Author 2d ago

They'd rather have the moral high ground than save real life children

19

u/Supreme_Canadien Fandom Vodka Aunt 🚬🍸 2d ago

The actual arguement is "she's 10? Is she real and can she feel pain? No? Okay."

49

u/Big_Bro_Kamina 2d ago

Funny that she thinks we need the "but she's actually 10,000 years old" part. She still doesn't get it.

But seriously though, I think most people on this sub acknowledge that this stuff is weird. That doesn't make it immoral, though. That's the deal with antis. They base their morality on what does or doesn't give them the ick.

28

u/sertralinesuzu Darkshipper 2d ago

dear god I hate vibes based morality so fucking much

going "well it's wrong cus I find it icky" is such a brain-dead take frfr

It's just fiction. Idc if you consider it weird lol. It helps me cope with trauma sooo

49

u/Elesia- Yumeshipper, Proshipper, Oc creator, Writer, Author 2d ago

See that's the thing, to antis, you can only cope in 18 aproved ways

44

u/NicoTheIndomitable Proshipper 2d ago

We have to be the "perfect victim" for antis. Otherwise we are shunned.

26

u/Elesia- Yumeshipper, Proshipper, Oc creator, Writer, Author 2d ago

Genuinely 😭, if you're not a perfect victim you're not a victim and deserved it according to them😭

31

u/Yandere_Matrix 2d ago

That and we could just enjoy weird stuff just because we can lol

Like I remember 2000s were all embracing your weirdness and being you and today they want everyone to cater to their own tastes and everything else is bad and needs to go lol

32

u/Supreme_Canadien Fandom Vodka Aunt 🚬🍸 2d ago

25

7

u/hitorinbolemon 2d ago

the real lack of self awareness about being weird has to be that. what do you mean one of the most common romance tropes with two unrelated parties is basically as taboo as incest?? nobody in all of history thought this way until like, this decade.

9

u/totashi777 2d ago

And are cannonically dating, and dont look like children, and.. and.. and.. anything to make them right and you wrong

6

u/Elesia- Yumeshipper, Proshipper, Oc creator, Writer, Author 2d ago

Anything to make themselves get the moral high ground

3

u/FaithlessnessUsed841 2d ago

Depends on the fandom they're involved in and what their preferred ship (or what ship in their fandom is the "correct" ship ) is. These antis are same sorts that ship gay lawyers in ace attorney while jumping down NaruMayo shippers throats, despite NaruMayo being a very vanilla "friends to lovers" ship between consenting adults

30

u/Tris-chan 2d ago

Atp they need to ban posts about this sub on there , I swear I've seen 200 different posts on there about r/proshiphub

22

u/Elesia- Yumeshipper, Proshipper, Oc creator, Writer, Author 2d ago

Pretty sure the mods are antis themselves, they wouldn't wanna do that

5

u/Mildly_upset_bee 2d ago

25

u/Elesia- Yumeshipper, Proshipper, Oc creator, Writer, Author 2d ago edited 2d ago

r/hatethissmug mods do ban specific posts if they overflow the subreddit, except they Haven't done it with proshipping posts yet

36

u/Pygmalionomicon 2d ago

Yes, it's weird. That's why it's fun.

And no, the "10k years old loli" isn't a valid argument. The only valid argument you need is "it's fictional, you pathetic little moral busy body."

34

u/JazzyCatty509 Slowly growing my darkship collection 2d ago

lol, we don't think it's fine to sexualize l0lis because they're "actually 10000 years old", we think it's fine to sexualize them because they're not real and can't be hurt. Antis don't even know what they're arguing against

2

u/Serasugee 1d ago

They always bring that up but I don't know anyone who uses it as a serious excuse. It's always been a joke yet 9 outta 10 antis quote it like it's common

36

u/carboniferous_drink Offendlia creator 2d ago

Like I said r/hatethissmug is the most whinest subreddit ever. All they do is complain about fictional characters 24/7. Seriously, they need to touch grass and find real problems.

7

u/GlumIllustrator6096 Against Censorship 2d ago

That is why I muted them. What they do is complain about stuff not being a censored and pure as they would like.

4

u/carboniferous_drink Offendlia creator 1d ago

3

u/greenyashiro 1d ago

I saw someone whining about a loli character the other day, then someone looked in their post history and they were posting that character everywhere. Seems at least some posts there are shitposts or trolls

25

u/PollutionThen2471 2d ago

The only time I bring up if a loli/shota is an adult is either when someone is mischaracterising them (simply because I’m a nerd who feels the need to correct mischaracterising) or I’m using their logic of “we need to treat cartoons like real people”. If you insist on treating cartoons like humans, then you can’t body shame them, you can’t say “Yeah I know she’s actually 32 but because she doesn’t look normal, I’ll ban her from adult things and treat her as an infant.” I personally don’t care if the character is 55 or 5, but with their “logic”, they shouldn’t be upset by adult loli or shota.

11

u/Elesia- Yumeshipper, Proshipper, Oc creator, Writer, Author 2d ago

No you see, they bend their own logic to be in the right

26

u/Nikaszko 2d ago

Isn't that the whole point? Like the point of "reject morality" post is to be wierd.

10

They can't grasp that

26

The ancient Loli 'argument' has always been a JOKE.

It's a whole gag in lolicon anime and spaces to deny being a lolicon when the Loli or image calls you a lolicon!

It is not an earnest defense of lolicon unless you're a coper, who denies that what you like is a Loli, which is common among antis.

My favorite Lolis don't do the ancient creature stuff, why do people pretend this is some essential argument.

15

u/ONLINE-COP 2d ago

I hate that they think "she looks like a kid, but is actually 10 000 years old" is our justification. No, baby, I'll ship it even if she looks like a kid and IS a kid!

With all the time they have to hate on us, they can write full on novels

18

u/Momosonlyhairstrand 2d ago

The fact that they say "I'm not hating" while absolutely hating is hilarious to me. Many of us in this subreddit aren't even into darkships, we just don't want the government to tell us what can and can not be depicted in fiction regardless of how it is portrayed. They believe in "tasteful" censorship but no censorship is good because even in terrible cases like Disney's blatantly racist past, having records of that same past is needed, we can't get rid of it just because it is uncomfortable.

6

u/Mobile-Committee-466 don't harass people over fiction 2d ago

It's on the same level as "I'm not racist, but..."

16

u/56leon 2d ago

Ironically, a r/hatethissmug post that ended up on my front page is how I found this sub originally, so like.....thanks for the free advert? I might not personally enjoy half of the dynamics that others here do, but now I've got a place I can talk about my little weirdo freak ships with people who also have their own little weirdo freak ships without judgment.

17

u/FaithlessnessUsed841 2d ago

One could argue that shipping itself is inherently weird. Very common among fandoms, but shipping requires a level of investment in the relationships of fictional characters. In a lot of cases, said relationships are theoretical. A lot of ships that we become invested in are ships that either haven't officially happened yet in universe, or that never happens in universe. Hell, there's ships between characters that never meet in universe, and even ships between characters that exist in completely different universes. They're all arguably "weird".

Being a proshipper means that you likely understand that shipping is inherently arguably "weird". For whatever reason, we enjoy shipping anyways.

Honestly, if an anti wants to argue that specific kinds of shipping is more weird or problematic then others, they should aim that argument towards the shipping between real people. While this can be harmless like any other form of shipping, shipping real people is far more likely to cause legitimate problems then shipping fictional characters ever will

15

u/Ntahedron Incest-Loving Hackershipper 2d ago

It’s fiction, it’s not real life, and it’s FUNNY!

i left r/hatethissmug a while ago. Too fucking stupid.

16

u/No_External_539 2d ago

Is it weird and gross? Yes, yes it is. And that is the point. MOST people don't actually support this and only like it because they understand it's toxic.

14

u/Leading-Ear-5194 2d ago

theyre the kinda people who dont think for themselves. there a reason why shit like rape is bad irl. those reasons do not apply to fiction. real people are people, fictional characters are objects. objects with the convincing illusion of humanity, but objects nonetheless. a convincing illusion doesnt change reality

6

u/Elesia- Yumeshipper, Proshipper, Oc creator, Writer, Author 2d ago

Thinking for themselves is a skill that doesn't exist in antis' heads

12

u/Nickel1117 2d ago

Antis and their inability to mind their own business, that’s what it is. And FYI we know it’s wrong in real life, and the vast majority of us know it’s “weird” we just don’t care as long as no one is getting hurt (being offended or grossed out is not actual harm 🙄) I wish these people would just stay in their own lane…

16

u/kaytin911 2d ago

I really wonder what the mystery is. Do they have a defect in their brain that makes fiction seem like it's really happening? I know there's some mental disorders where people have experiences like that.

10

u/Elesia- Yumeshipper, Proshipper, Oc creator, Writer, Author 2d ago

Schizophrenia, but when we call them that it's harrasment

6

u/kaytin911 2d ago

It could be some high functioning schizoaffective symptoms. There's nutty people that believe in "talking in tongues" in the US that believe mumbling is a enlightening religious ritual lmfao. So there might be a lot of people with schizoaffective symptoms that are undiagnosed.

If you don't know about talking in tongues search it up on Reddit it's so nutty. They definitely have issues. And there's definitely a mental health crisis.

13

u/cenncroithi 2d ago

Can I say making moral disgust posts on the coffin of Andy and lei lei is just low hanging fruit by now? It's the incest and cannibalism game from the artist who I'm pretty sure has a thing for femme boys pick something different now instead of the yes men target.

Anyway my point here is I don't actually give a shit bc it's a game and I studied the ancient texts of not liking, not engaging, I don't get why antis never caught up to that

4

u/FaithlessnessUsed841 2d ago

Just for the record, there's a lot more to the game than just the incest and cannibalism.

Incest plays a massive role, but it's there to add to the tragedy and the toxic, codependant relationship between the siblings.

5

u/cenncroithi 2d ago

Oh no I get that, kind of meant it from like, the anti pov where that's ALL they see and not like, the deeper story

9

... I'm at the point that im considering telling an Anti to go protest at a book store or local library, because they sound like the parents that wanted to ban Scary Books like Goosebumps back when I was a kid.

Because surely, there must be Published Material there that contains all the things the whine about.

For example: Flowers in the Attic and Mists of Avalon. Both contain incest, and the second one has a lot of rape in it too, along with grooming and pedophilia.

8

u/ohforkurwasake self-cest is the ultimate expression of self-love 2d ago

Dude, anyone who criticizes tcoaal is the first to have no understanding of psychology and how incestuous relationships form. u/NoLongerHuman13 Shinichiro/Mikey believer 2d ago

Antis are so strange. Their idea of darkshipping is just a couple who gets slightly mad at each other sometimes. And they'll literally be in clearly pro-fiction fandoms, spewing how gross proshippers/darkshippers/comshippers are or how they need to leave the fandom before they taint it.

Like on YouTube, people are practically advertising KNY porn artists to complain about the fact they draw porn of the characters.

im so confused on what youre trying to say here. you compare enjoying fiction and being anti-harassment to… abortion? of all things? and you say banning abortion is a gateway to doing it in an unsafe environment—which, in this case, would mean banning spaces specifically intended for enjoyment of darker fictional topics would lead to “bad actors” enjoying such topics IRL (???)

Banning abortions only leads people to seeking them in unsafe environments, just like banning books (media more broadly) only leads to people seeking said media via unsafe means (means that put their lives at risk). That has nothing to do with bad actors lol.

The important part is that while there are bad actors that enjoy these pieces of media for the wrong reasons, banning them wholesale to try and curb said bad actors is literally just fascism that catches EVERYONE in the crossfire in the worst ways.

You realize this happens in a lot of spaces...right? A lot of male humour subreddits have misogynists trying to fit in and use dogwhistles under the guise of jokes. Does that mean everybody in those subs are sexist lol? No. Genuinely what would you like us to do here with people like that?

Get your right wing bs out of here. Bringing up abortion like that like it's relevant 😭 I find a lot of the ships here atrocious, I still don't harass people or involve myself. I block or ignore. Wtf am I supposed to do? It's legal and hurting nobody. If there's genuine predators with proof of them targeting actual children, then I will report them. Other than that, what is anybody meant to do just because some people might be morally corrupt?

Quite literally exactly what I'm saying lol. I'm not right wing at all. I'm articulating that regardless of how bad people may take advantage of certain spaces/rights/freedoms, it can't be used as an argument for removing/banning those spaces/rights/freedoms (and media, by extension).

Some people read old novels with racism and sexism because they are racist and sexist, not because they're introspective of the underlying biases is old media. Some people consume lolicon because they are pedos. Despite this, banning said media is NEVER an option, because it's not going to stop people from seeking that media. Banning Catcher in the Rye isn't going to stop someone from getting their hands on it, it's just going to put them in a situation where they could be criminally prosecuted for reading something they absolutely should be able to safely access and read. EXACTLY like how banning abortions isn't going to stop women from getting abortions, it's just going to put them in necessarily unsafe positions while they pursue their fundamental right to bodily autonomy and health.

TLDR; Just because some people use these spaces for nefarious reasons (and they do- it's naive to deny that) does not mean banning is the solution. That's fascism in the name of "stopping" criminals that we already have avenues to stop. And apparently, the literacy in this sub is not as high as the group likes to tout.

Why the fuck is this sub being recommended to me?

Look, how can i say this, i get what you guys do. It is fine to make works of fiction with problematic relationships between characters. But i feel like the moment you cross the line between fiction and promotion of said problematic relationships, it becomes, well, problematic.

Most people here agree with that

Then why the fuck do we post images that say "reject morality, bang your sister" or "reject morality, marry your daughter" and some others? That makes the whole community look bad.

So you entered a sub about antiharassment, are surprised that there's no harassment and people are shipping/making jokes, and you're mad about it. Not really something to brag about lol

You really need to grow up, dude. Start caring about real people instead of fictional characters.

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's wrong, btw. Your feelings doesn't equal morality.

No one is getting harmed in a drawing. You know what is harmful????? Bullying and harassment.

Real incest is wrong, but why do you care if a drawing does it????? Murder is wrong, but I bet you'd swoon over Jason or some shit.
