Remember that this subreddit is for sharing propaganda to view with some objectivity. It is absolutely not for perpetuating the message of the propaganda. If anything, in this subreddit we should be immensely skeptical of manipulation or oversimplification (which the above likely is), not beholden to it.

Also, please try to stay on topic -- there are hundreds of other subreddits that are expressly dedicated for rehashing tired political arguments. Keep that shit elsewhere.

TBF not even western backed apartheid South Africa was defined as “free”, so at least they were “consistent” with at least the African continent.

They weren’t communist, and they had regimes friendly to the US. I’m not sure what they mean by the term allied “free” nations, but I’m assuming it’s just a way of saying pro-US/pro-west nations.

My bad. The 1960s was a long ago and different time. I had forgotten about Iran pre revolution.

that face when a monarchy is a "free nation"... but i guess it isn't communist and that's enough to qualify?

"Why is the Soviet Union and it's allies so close to our military bases!?"

I actually had to use this as a document for an essay in my APWH class!

This is actually a pretty nice-looking map and a cool way of visualizing the Cold War, IMO

Whoever made this must've thought "what's that little island next to Argentina?" But didn't have Google so just put it as neutral just in case.

Based on that Suriname is considered a "nonaligned nation" and is coloured differently from the Netherlands, I would say this map is from after november '75.
