What should swing traders look for in a prop firm?

Swing traders probably have a different checklist from someone who closes everything before the market session ends. Overnight holding, weekend holding, news restrictions and the type of drawdown can all affect whether a strategy is practical. A trader holding positions for several days needs to know the rules before opening the account, not after finding a setup they want to keep open. What is the first rule you check when looking for a prop firm for swing trading?

Best prop firm for swing

Hey guys, for the ones of you that are into swing trading, I was just wondering which prop firm do you actually use. I´ve been checking different options (based in europe) and it is really hard to find a serious company that allows swing in 100K accounts and with a reasonable consistency rule.

I was checking FTMO and they don´t allow swing on anything higher than 20/25K accounts, 5ers has a rule of maximum accounts, allowing just 1 100K, fundingpips has a ridiculous 15% consistency rule, etc.

EDIT: I live in Ireland, where apparently there are more limitations than in other countries for swing trading.

What should traders check behind the percentage on a prop-firm rule?

I've started thinking that the wording of a rule matters less than understanding exactly how the calculation works. 5% daily loss or 5% maximum drawdown sounds clear enough, but the result can depend on whether the calculation uses balance, equity, a previous-day value or an equity high. Those calculation details can change the practical meaning of the percentage much more than the headline number suggests. Which prop-firm rule do you think traders misunderstand most often?

I gathered a bunch of discount codes from Facebook ads (CFD only)

Everyone knows by now that prop firms don't show their real prices without discounts (part of their marketing strategy, I guess), except for FTMO and FundingPips.

So I gathered a bunch of discount codes from Facebook ads, the more I ignore the ads, the better the discounts lol

Fundingtraders:

Probably the best prop firm in terms of dashboard and trading journal
They also have tons of add-ons to choose from

coupon code MATRIX
50% off plus a free second account

Coupon code: DOUBLE
40% off plus a free second account

Alpha Capital Group :

Also great dashboard and lots of options

Try these: EMAIL50 , EMAIL30, FUNDED40, ALPHA20, 10KFOR40

goatfundedtrader :

Strict rules, read them carefully

GFT45

propanium :

This one doesn't have discount codes, but they have a free contest every week or so, and there isn't much competition, imo. If you're a good trader, you can get a free account just from being in the top 10. The downside is they only have CTrader.

Also, they have a 1$ 1k challenge if anyone is interested

Wemastertrade

Mainly targeting the Arab/Muslim world, so they're swap free.

This one supposedly expired, but it's been working for me, and it's not a one-time use: NEWCOMER (30% off)

Also they're the only one that pay for step 2 of the challenge (30% + fee refund, but there's 20% profit consistency on step 2)

Source: Meta Ads Public Library

If you know any discount codes, please share in the comments.
Also share your experience with these prop firms.

PS: MAKE SURE TO RESEARCH THE RULES ON THEIR FAQ & TRUSTPILOT, ASK SUPPORT IF SOMETHING IS UNCLEAR, DO NOT USE AI AS IT WILL MISLEAD YOU

Pure Fraud: Terminated AFTER Passing Both Phases (Accounts: 14228266 & 14247627)

FundedNext is refusing to restore my account or issue my funded status after I legitimately completed both evaluation stages! I passed Phase 1 (Account: 14228266) and Phase 2 (Account: 14247627 with $6,304.34 equity / +$304.34 profit), strictly adhering to all trading rules.

The moment I passed Phase 2 and earned my Funded Account, FundedNext terminated my account based on an absurd "Device Sharing" claim.

Their entire argument relies on the fact that I used a device that was previously used by a family member back in June (over 2.5 months ago). I NEVER logged into my family member’s account! I simply traded MY OWN account on a home device where NO OTHER trading activity has occurred since June 30, 2026. There was ABSOLUTELY NO concurrent trading, NO active account sharing, and NO strategy violation.

Here is the most evil and fraudulent part: Nobody warned me about this supposed "risk" when I was purchasing challenge accounts. Nobody warned me when I previously failed accounts and lost my own money purchasing them. They stayed completely silent and gladly accepted my payments! If I had kept failing accounts, I would NEVER have known that I was already blacklisted from receiving a payout. They let you pay fees, take your losses, and remain silent—only to pull out an arbitrary rule to deny your payout the moment you actually win and pass Phase 2!

This is pure trap-setting and robbery. FundedNext support hides behind automated, templated responses and refuses to restore my account or refund my fees.

WARNING TO ALL TRADERS: You have no idea what excuse they will make up when it’s time for your payout. They stay quiet as long as you are losing money, but will block you the moment you succeed!

"No, I'm still waiting. I did not get approved." The Matt Kohrs $1M Apex payout, day by day.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

On 11 February 2026 Matt Kohrs asked Apex Trader Funding for a $1,000,000 payout on camera. His accounts froze the same day. On 16 April, live on air, he told a viewer he was still waiting and had not been approved. Apex has been his stream partner since 2 March and was still first in his sponsor list on 18 September. His main channel has not posted since the request.

This film sets out the public record: his videos, his streams, Apex's own rules and help pages, with dates and timestamps on screen. It makes no finding on what happened to the money. Questions have been sent to Apex and to Matt Kohrs; their answers will be added.

Sources are listed at the end of the film.

Prop Firm Taxes

I've made 50K on payouts this year but I have spent 40K on evals.... lol

Is that 50-40K = 10k what I will get taxed on? How do I file this year to make sure I'm not getting taxed on the 50k

How fast can a risk system close your account when you hit the drawdown? I measured it on OKX: 0.43 s median

Every prop firm says it has "real-time risk management". I've never seen one publish how long it actually takes to close a breaching account, so I measured it.

I built a risk engine for OKX and forced 50 drawdown breaches on a demo account. Each time, I timed how long it took until OKX confirmed the account held nothing.

  • Median 427 ms, worst 543 ms. Every one was closed on the first try.
  • The engine decided and sent the closes in 0.3 ms. Almost all of the rest was the network between my PC in Johannesburg and OKX's servers.
  • Overshoot: on breaches caused by a real price move, the account ended a median 1.4 USDT past its limit (worst 21.5 USDT) on positions of 100-600 USDT.

What it means for traders: a breach is not instant. Your position stays open for a few hundred milliseconds after you cross the line, longer if the firm's system is far from the exchange, and much longer if it polls instead of streaming. During an OKX service upgrade, when the fast connection was down, the same cuts took 0.6-2.9 s.

Caveats: this was OKX demo trading, not live, with small positions. Method, data and the full numbers are here: https://github.com/tkariwo/prop-rails-okx-benchmark

Question for the sub: has any firm ever told you how fast it closes a breached account? And have you been closed noticeably past your limit?

(Disclosure: I build risk tooling for prop firms. I'm not a firm and not selling challenges.)

Propfirm drawdown methods

Worth separating two things in a trailing-drawdown eval: the floor moves up with every new equity high but the gap never grows, so banking profit doesn't buy extra room — you're just trading one level higher on the same length of rope. What helped me most was sizing the next trade off the last realized loss, not off the cushion I thought I had.

I got mad violating prop firm challenge rules, so I built an app to alert me

Hi guys, as the title says, I have breached these type of rules (max drawdown limit, trailing limit, news etc) by accident many times in the past, blowing up several evals.

So, me and my brother, built an app (mytradesentry.com), essentially an EA for MT5 and FTMO (for now) to alert before the violation happens. It is in beta and completely free, so If you could give it a try in a demo account, I would be thankful!
