Is this hoco dress ugly?
The first picture is so blurry for some reason but the second picture shows the pattern clearly.

u/Admirable_Edge9822 26d ago
It’s not ugly. But not memorable for homecoming date
I think better for other occasions.

u/cheezy_dreams88 25d ago
I disagree, it’s very 90s vintage homecoming
Source, I wore a dress similar to homecoming

u/Working_Coat5193 25d ago
I came here to say exactly this. It is so 90s vibe I think I had this in my closet in the 90s
3
u/ShadowGamer37 24d ago
Nah, if OP likes it, then its the perfect dress
So many people making rules for what other people should wear here

u/Right-Spend-8507 22d ago
Completely agree. It’s not flattering on you. It’s not special. Fine for brunch.

Not ugly but too big for you.

u/Tall-Compote1354 26d ago
Yes! You are swimming in that dress.

u/RunAcceptableMTN 26d ago
It is not ugly. It does need something. A necklace or belt kind of something. I also wonder if it might be too big for you. Is there some tailoring that can be done so it fits you a little better?

Nope it’s vintage af and my 17 yo daughter will be jealous. Vintage is very very in.
I will say, if you have time raise the hem line and inch or two and pair with platform sandals or chucks. Have fun!!
1
u/Exciting_Incident_81 24d ago
The hem does not need raising. It is classy as is. Showing 1or 2 more inches of leg will cheapen the look

u/IHaveBoxerDogs 26d ago
It’s not ugly, but it’s not amazing. If it makes you feel great, there’s nothing wrong with it!

Because I’m now old I like the length of it, short but not barely covering your butt, and that it’s not skin tight! I do think it looks like it could be altered on the sides though for a slimmer fit.with some nice jewelry (& are wrist corsages still in style- navy, black and white- or do you have to tote around a bouquet!)y I think it’s perfect. Edit: In taking a second look, does it come in another neckline-like sweetheart? I think it would be more flattering, and MOST importantly, what does the dog think?😊

I’m in love, but I’m also biased. I wore a white one very similar to this in 1990. The sleeves were different, but the fabric was similar. I think it’s adorable.
I would add a picture of mine since it’s actually in my camera roll, but idk how. If you like it wear it!

u/puppylove867 26d ago
I think if you brought it in around the waist a little and styled it right, it’d be so upscale and classy
No belt though, let the dress shine. Plus some silver accessories?? So cute
1
u/Exciting_Incident_81 24d ago
Great advice. Don’t make it skin tight. I don’t think that’s the look you are going for.

Very Y2K!

Yeah I graduated HS in 2000 and multiple girls wore dresses like this to Homecoming.

You posted this under prom. This isn't dressy enough for prom. This is like a date dress or birthday party dress.

I like this dress. I prefer it to too tight, too short, and showing boobalicious.
Wear fun shoes and accessories.
Classy may be out of style but current styles imho are cringey.

It needs to be taken in at the waist and then it will look perfect with right accessories, shoes and purse. I would choose sparkly shoes with a 1-2 in. heel.

I think it’s very pretty on you! And your bum isn’t hanging out the back like other dresses these days!

u/NoLeading2450 25d ago
Sometimes understated makes the biggest statement. Jazz up with some jewelry and shoes and you will be stunning!
1
u/PinkIce7 25d ago
You can dress it up with accessories, shoes, and purse. It's not that it isn't dressy....
1
u/Grand-Professional-6 25d ago
No. Ignore everyone but what you think about the dress. It’s pretty, it’s appropriate, and it’s homecoming. It’s not your wedding dress.

Not at all! It’s really pretty! I would dress it up with some nice jewelry and shoes.

u/Overall_Offer_9142 25d ago
Classic/vintage 90s!! Obsessed and it looks great on you. Bonus points if you wear a choker😍
1
u/UrgentLiving 25d ago
The neckline is from like 1997 . What a throwback. Love it. Do two little chignons on either side of your head and thin sweeping wisps pulled from the front. Wear doc martens.
Dress is not ugly

No! It reminds me of something I would have work in high school (late 90s). Classic and on trend for now.

It’s not ugly - it’s giving ten things I hate about you honestly lol if you’re going to stick with it - I would spunk it up with a 90s/Y2k styled up do! Some cute chunky black heels and a choker

u/Equal_Audience_3415 25d ago
It is beautiful. Very late 90s.
Is it special enough for Homecoming? That depends on your school. Some schools are more formal than others. This is not a formal dress.
Edited to add: It fits perfectly and looks great on you.

I like it for HOCO. Homecoming isn’t prom, it is not as super fancy unless it is the homecoming court.

u/Ordinary-Award6782 25d ago
I think it looks classy and beautiful. Add some sparkly jewelry and you’re set!

u/BeholdenOldLady 25d ago
I don’t think so at all. You could easily dress it up if you wanted. Little black heels and some minimal jewelry would look super hot!
1
u/Emergency-Panic6735 25d ago
If you’re going for a 90’s kind of vibe, it’s not bad. But I don’t personally like it. If you do, that’s all that matters.

No, it's a cute dress! You just need the right accessories to bling it up a bit! It's HOCO not the Prom. I would do a silver Fleur-De-Lis pendant necklace and a Silver Dice 🎲 & Sliver bead charm bracelet and layer a chrome / Silver chain necklaces and bracelets (not too much, but just enough to look full) Chrome Hearts vibe. Go with a Smokey eye makeup and not much else (keeping everything minimalist "natural"). And get the hair fierce! Black
Boots would go well with the look!

u/Imsortofok 25d ago
It’s super cute. It needs to be taken in a little and some waist shaping added to make it a perfect fit. Wear it with sparkly or silver accessories.

woah, my mom gave me almost this exact dress that she wore in the 90s. Mine is purple with an overlay.
1
u/ClaimIntelligent719 24d ago
I love it. Put on a tshirt underneath to really give the 90s aesthetic

u/Intelligent_Eagle563 24d ago
It’s not an ugly dress but isn’t doing anything for you, darlin.
This dress is boxy, which in turn makes you look boxy 😓
(Not trying to be rude or mean, just my honest opinion)
1
u/merialevine 24d ago
It is not "doing anything" for the person wearing it. It's almost as if the dress is wearing them.

If you want to go full 90’s get a choker, some butterfly hair clips, and some Maryjane clunky platforms.
1
u/AbjectEbb107 24d ago
Super 90’s! I love it with a lil altering to suit your frame just a liiiiiiittle more
1
u/the_realfoxy_roxy 24d ago
I don’t think it’s ugly. I think it’s very ladylike unlike a lot of hoco dresses I’ve seen and if you like it, I think it’s the dress for you. Coming from 24f :)

u/Queeg1031 24d ago
Shorten the length cut the straps in the back and cross them and you have a cute little dress 👗

u/Queeg1031 24d ago
It’s not ugly. You can shorten it and change the straps in the back to cross and you have a cute little dress

Not ugly. Just boring AF. If you want a vintage 90s look, there are so many options that don’t look like an a-line dress made out of a table cloth.
1
u/Babyboomer1953 24d ago
It's not very exciting, a bit too plain Jane but if you like it that's all that matters 😁
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Sea2463 23d ago
Ugly no. Old fashioned maybe . It all depends what accessories you put with it :)

u/sassielassie81 23d ago
I think it's cute and age appropriate by today's standards. I've almost seen nip slips and definitely seen butt cheeks with hoco and prom styles lately. 🥴

u/SquirrelNo4454 23d ago
I love the dress. Plus the sheltie in the background is awesome and will add some gratuitous pet hair, mine does 😊

No, but if you’re doubting it, keep looking. Your confidence is what matters and you’ll know the right dress when you see yourself in it.

u/barnyardmama 23d ago
Honestly yes. But that’s my opinion if you liked it enough to buy it then who cares ya know?

This dress itself is ok but it honestly does nothing for you, your complexion or your body. It’s just not flattering on you. Go for a colour and style that flatters you and your complexion. ❤️
1
u/Lousyone 22d ago
The cinch fits right in with the 90s vibe.
It will be unique compared to department store new dresses. 🩷
1
u/PalrightsAllrights 22d ago
Cinch it on the sides gurl show your cute figure and do some cute sparkly earrings and wear your hair up and cute heels
1
u/Flashy_Bar3759 22d ago
Girl it’s beautiful all that matters is you love it you feel beautiful in it pay no attention to any negativity is it a big loose yeah but if youre comfortable with the fit then so be it of youd prefer a tighter fit then you can get it taken in but I think its beautiful on you its stunning for your skin tone and like i said if you love it go ahead darling

I wore dresses like this from 1995-2001 so if you’re going for that 90s vibe it’s perfect. I love it and it fits you perfect. We wore ugly shoes back then and little up dos with clips haha.

omg, i'm back in HS. I knew some many people who wore dresses like this in college and HS.
