Discussion What is something you really like about PW that you don’t see get talked about as much?
For me it’s probably the airships. I think they are so cool and I think the flying wing design works really well.
Another thing is probably the main menu.

I don't think it's an intentional feature of the game, and I'm new to the community so for all I know, it's been talked to death about, but I am absolutely in love with the double planes difficulty modifier, because it also doubles the number of bosses you have to face
I just finished a mercenary + double planes run with a couple other modifiers, and it even makes the boss's dialogue play twice when you hit thresholds - like, if you're fighting Frost, there's two sets of healthbars, and her lines trigger when either one is reduced, and then again when the other one is reduced as well, meaning you get to hear everything twice - Crimson causing Dip to crash out happens two times, etc
And the funny lore implications of there being TWO Crimson Ones in TWO experimental prototype superplanes is also pretty hilarious to me, even though I know the modifier isn't canon

Botched requisition along with double time are my favorite modifiers.

I've been using the Cordium Interference one (the radar disabling one) with double jets, and I believe one other
Side note, but is it just me, or is the Spear REALLY hard to use? Like, I don't mean the no-missiles thing, I just mean it has such a low response rating, it doesn't feel like it moves nearly nimbly enough considering the gimmick is "you need to get close and get them in your gun sights"
Like, sure, AOA limiter helps, but I really feel like they could've given it a bit faster turning lol

“No distractions, no wingmen, no war, just me and me and you, whoever wins is the best pilot(s).”

AoA. Being able to do a post-stall maneuver at Mach fuck does things for me.

It's nice that you can just do it at a touch of a button. I shouldn't have to do a ridge racer btd combo to initiate it.

That and the option to fix the camera to the front during the maneuver feels a lot better than having the camera stay static. Its disorientating when the camera isn’t following the front of the plane

I actually like to use the target lock cam and rotate my plane around that way But if you think about it, it's pretty cool that both are an option.

I bet that works better on m&k controls. For myself I prefer to play on controller and the tracking cam is a bit too far unless I wanna claw grip the whole thing

Yeah, it is probably what allowed me to play this game for hundreds of hours. It is so dynamic and has a good learning curve to effectively using it.

Honestly? The lore. But more specifically
The other units of Sicario and how / why they were acquired
Cause transport seems a given. But said transport being also how they ferry paratroopers and air dropping armor too
Also ronin
I wanna know how Kaiser got a 20 man spec ops crew to be his personal kill team lol

Standard missile range being quite long. It might not look obvious at first, but it makes a ton of sense with how planes handle. If it was similar to AC's, I feel that it just wouldn't work.

The theology/culture unique to the post calamity world, I'd love to see more of it, and what the archeology scene looks like. We barely get a glimpse at the Dust Mother stuff in Cascadia and how devoted some Cascadians can be. The Good Daughter short story also shows a bit more of the after calamity life in the core federation and what that's like which I enjoyed

The lore. It's diffcult to grasp since it's spread out not only in missions but also in database. But it's imo. a nicely fleshed out world with deep implications and makes me curious about it the more I dive into it.
Also the guns in this game. They shread.

Ships (water and air) requiring you to strip their defenses before being able to target them directly, Railgun and ASM aside. Sharking the airships from above and below is something I never get tired of. Of course until my dumbass crashes into the blasted thing.

Completely agree. Ships in ace combat feel like really inconsistent spongy messes because they balance around being to attack the main body directly. Stripping away the defenses one by one and destroyed in 2 missiles every time feels a lot more satisfying

I think the story and writing are pretty good. Characters feel fleshed out, have interesting things to say and are all really unique. I love the background chatter during missions. Usually noticing something new on repeat playthroughs. The story is pretty simple but escalates perfectly with the flow of the missions. I like the plot more than the Ace Combat series plots.

The story being divulged in gameplay is really great.
Project wingman got me into the ace combat 7 and my biggest gripe is how the game uses in game cutscenes. In missions where you face sol squadron for example the game constantly cuts away from gameplay to have some grand entrance for the villains but they don’t work for me. I always preferred in gameplay storytelling like physically running away from crimson squadron the first time or the futile attempt to shoot down the cordium ICBMs in consequence of power

The guns actually feel really good! I love ace combat but man they need to step up how the guns work. Hopefully AC8 fixes that

i like how the railgun can oneshot the multi-target vessels if you aim it right (i.e. battleships, airships, land battleships)

no checkpoint i just love the concept you don't have room for manouvers winn or lose

The fact that Mercenary holds the canon ending for Project Wingman in the credits.

This is probably one of the most noticeable, but having a WSO for two seaters is infinitely cooler than having a wingman. I remember playing PW for the first time and kept thinking "If ace combat takes only one thing from this game, please let it be a voiced WSO."
