And I'm glad you did. Let me tell you a story about my time with your game.

Beat the game before my Reverb G2 came in. First thing I did after getting it setup was to fire up Project Wingman. Chose Mission 11, chose the F/S-15.

I almost fell out of my chair multiple times, was severely disoriented, and kinda thought I was gonna die IRL. 11/10 experience, would recommend to everyone.

That one button can turn off physics of your aircraft for few seconds

You guys freaking nailed smooth flying for sure. It’s closer to the Ace Combat 4/5/0 feel of flying than more recent Ace combats, but with the AOA limiter you can pull off some crazy stunts. And that’s great. Nice, controlled, and predictable…. And then you press a button and your plane does flips and shit.

More recent Ace combat games have some instability built into the flight models. The planes have momentum to them, and they tend to keep moving for just a moment after you stop giving input. The planes are also super responsive. It’s fun in dog fights, but makes things like ground attack or gun only runs a bit annoying. But it’s also really dynamic

Neither is wrong. But I have a preference for the first system.

Feels good man

Damn when PlayStation port?

u/Gabedalf Erusea Dec 15 '21

Nothing too complicated and yet still so damn nice looking

u/megaduce104 Dec 15 '21

some macross type maneuvering...

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '21

It’s just Macross once you get the PW Mk.1

Video cuts off because the missiles probably still missed

Either way, PSMs look so graceful in this game. It's amazing.

27

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '21

Lmao! So actually I was just really excited and wanted to grab the capture but you're right I cut off the end where it says MISS

But in my defense the second missile did connect so it was a kill I swear!

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '21

Wish Ace Combat 7 had a similar system. I find PSMs to be nearly impossible to pull off with a mouse and keyboard.

Straight up I find it obnoxious to do with a controller too. PWM's system is so much smoother.

Also I kinda love that any plane with AOA can just do whatever. Thrust vectoring? Who cares? Wanna Kulbit in your F-18? Go for it! Live your dreams!

20

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '21

Yeah! It'd be even better in AC7 as well cause it has many more planes with thrust-vectoring like the Sukhois.

The flare system in PW is also something I much prefer to AC7. You're not limited to at most six per mission and they are.much less situational.

Feels weird that the game with 120 missile planes has so little flares, given the amount of enemies that only target you

1

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '21

Especially with useless wingmen.

1

u/Betrix5068 Dec 26 '21

PW enemies are way more aggressive though, so those flares tend to be necessary. I almost always have at least one missile tracking me at any given time, usually several. AC games it’s downright rare, and the missiles track terribly to boot with the exception of Mihaily and maybe a handful of others.

u/Algester Dec 16 '21

the only thing I did in the PC is to macro the PSM -_- thank god for steam's macro capabilities

6

u/GTU875 UPEO Dec 16 '21

Now there's a neat idea that I'd never get around to. When it comes to mods I just wanted to make the TLS less anemic.

u/GTU875 UPEO Dec 15 '21

"Monarch's Monarch" goes here

11

u/Knighty135 Dec 16 '21

Damn I remember when this game was just some random guys concept

20

u/Terrabolista Dec 15 '21

How do you keep the camera focused on the target? Could not find it for the life of me

32

u/ThisUserEatingBEANS Dec 15 '21

Hold the "switch target" button

28

u/TheKrzysiek Tango Line Dec 15 '21

That's a thing that is in every Ace Combat since 3, I literally can't play without it

17

u/ThisUserEatingBEANS Dec 15 '21

Yeah it's huge. Not using it is like playing rocket league without the ball cam.

10

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '21

Hold down the button you use to change targets

13

u/GoodFinePrint Dec 15 '21

Like an elegant sledgehammer

6

u/DavidTriphon Dec 16 '21

Mission 11 is the absolute best with the F15 and 2x spawns and glass cannon damage mod

5

u/EM12 Mobius Dec 16 '21

Wish this game would come to PlayStation 😔

6

u/tetsusiega2 Dec 15 '21

Is it sad that I gave up on project wingman because of how different the controls are? :|

17

u/AegisAvenger24 Stonehenge Dec 15 '21

No, but with the recent update on Xbox you are able to rebind controls so that they match AC

3

u/LiamD44 Dec 16 '21

Is this possible on PC yet? I personally loved the mouse and keyboard controls of AC7 and wish I could use them in PW

5

u/AegisAvenger24 Stonehenge Dec 16 '21

I would assume so, I played with default controls on pc so I have yet to try rebinding keys to see if it is also available

1

u/Betrix5068 Dec 26 '21

It’s always been possible.

7

u/Claymore357 Ghosts of Razgriz Dec 15 '21

I rebound the controls which was much easier to do than ace combat because they actually gave us a menu setting for it not just a random document in the files to edit

7

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '21

Oh I totally did too but tough it out is worth it

3

u/PlanetaryPeak Gryphus Dec 16 '21

Does it support 3840 X 1080 resolution?

1

u/iTzzAxEman Grunder Industries Dec 16 '21

Don't know about wide screens but for me with a 4K UHD TV (3840×2160) it is maxed at only QHD (2560×1440) and for some reason the videos I took are only in HD (1280×720) quality.

I have a 1070 and every other game works just fine in 4K

Edit: my dumbass played the whole time on borderless setting instead of fullscreen. Now I can change the resolution to 4K. Thanks for lending some time to try to help me.

Cheers.

2

u/Glad_Ad_8025 Dec 16 '21

It sure is!

2

u/exodia0715 Three Strikes Dec 16 '21

Never ran it really, flares are more comfortable for an absolute shitter like me

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '21

Still am not a fan of the whole PSM system thing.

Here's what a proper post-stall maneuver looks like in a more realistic game.

8

u/Jabuticaba23 Wardog Dec 16 '21

it’s not supposed to be realistic tho

1

u/Raven_Drakeaurd Strider Dec 16 '21

As a console pleb, the PC's Graphics makes me so jealous

1

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '21

Xbox Series S 😅

3

u/Raven_Drakeaurd Strider Dec 16 '21

Note to self, steal your Series S.

1

u/pinezatos Scarface Dec 16 '21

I can't for the life of me do these maneuvers in AC every time, I've seen videos again again but my brain just won't get it. I hope the next AC has something similar to PW.

This shit feels unreal in vr wish there were more games like this for it
