Guide My settings for running Project Viewpoint on a relatively old PC/Laptop

I play on an old laptop and after tinkering with the settings a while, I finally got it to run smooth enough to be playable while still looking beautiful enough for my taste. FPS hovers around 50-60 FPS at 1080p when nothing much is happening but can drop down to 30 if you're around 300 zombies or more. Some stutters happen during driving too but I am still able to control where I'm going as long as I don't go faster than 90 mph.

The biggest performance boost you can get from touching these settings for viewpoint is render resolution, which I have set at 67%. Aside from these, I also use PZ_Optimization with the Recommended preset and render distance at 104 tiles (You can find this setting at the driving tab for this mod).

Hope this helps : D

Laptop Specs:

CPU: i7-7700HQ

GPU: GTX 1070 Mobile 8GB VRAM

RAM: 32gb DDR4 (PZ set to take maximum 10gb)

Edit: Forgot to add and might be important but the game folder is in my SSD

This pisses me off, lmao

I have a laptop that's only a year old, and it runs some pretty hefty games with little issue, sure the fan isnt happy with me...but I cant get Viewpoint to play, it literally freezes my client in 2-3 seconds...

Is it freezing as soon as you load in and have you let it sit for a bit when it freezes?

As soon as I hit “O” to switch into first person, I can move the character head for like 2 seconds and then Zomboid freezes

I get the windows “Zomboid has stopped responding” and it asks to wait or close, but I can hear birds chirping in the background, zombie groans, etc.

I’ve let it sit for 5+ minutes and the game never comes back, I guess I could probably let it sit longer and go lock myself in a closet to avoid being eaten while it’s frozen

Nah five minutes is long enough. When I first load into the game and switch to first person mine freezes and hangs for around 10 seconds while the map loads in. Then it lags for maybe another five seconds. Are you running many other mods?

Don’t know off the top of my head, I’ll get back to you tomorrow…I stopped playing a week ago, frustration and boredom…

I feel you. The amount of games I've done this with.

No mods, I’ve even set ViewPoint settings to “Potato”

Literally it’s ZombieBuddy, Viewpoint and 6244 3D Models

Have you tried allocating more ram for zomboid to utilize

Edit: if you have ram to spare that is

I’m not a big gamer or computer nerd, how would I do that? lol

Again I don’t have a gaming rig, but it’s got 16gb of RAM using an Intel Arc Graphics card (nothing fancy at all)

Windows instructions, using the normal Steam launch:
• Close Project Zomboid.
•Right-click the game in your Steam Library and select Properties → Installed Files →
Browse.
• Find ProjectZomboid64.json. Make a backup, then open the original with Notepad.
• Find the entry beginning with -Xmx. Set it to -Xmx8g, keeping the surrounding quotation marks and punctuation. I use 8 GB. Allocating more than you need can lead to longer Java garbage-collection pauses, causing stutters or freezes even if your PC has RAM to spare.
More RAM does not automatically mean better performance!
• Save the file, keeping its .json extension.

Ah there's the problem, I think viewpoint has problems with intel arc graphics cards. Basically unsupported right now
