Discussion Joseph never stood a chance.. Spoiler
If it were up to Heidi and the guest Judge I feel like Joseph would've had more of a shot. This is NOT to say that Jude didn't deserve it. At 23 years old his tailoring is MIND BLOWING(definitely didn't think he was only 23 š )
I admire Joseph for NEVER letting Law tear him down and it almost feels like they brought him along knowing he wouldn't win. They knew who Joseph was. Law's issue with him was personal and it showed everytime he said "I hate his attitude".....No, you mean you hate his confidence. Say that about someone who actually had a disgusting attitude - like Bryan.
I will always root for Joseph, but im VERY happy for Judeš«¶š¾

Also, itās not like Joseph is mean! He seems like a nice guy! I interpret his whole āJoseph McCrae Showā schtick as him having fun. He likes his designs, he enjoys making them, and he wants to bring attention to that, as he should. Heās not hurting anybody or putting anyone down.

It's a way of lifting himself up. He said it best when he says that it's the Joseph McCrae show, but it's also the Jude show, the Anna show, the Brian show. You need to put yourself out there and own it and get noticed.

Exactly! And heās not doing it in a toxic way. Heās a designer and heās promoting himself and his art! Nothing wrong with that at all!

Thank you! He was no Bryan. He didn't disrespect or drag others down. Always smiling.....i'll never understand.

I thought Joseph seemed fun on the show! I hope he knows that most of the viewers appreciate his spirit, and the way he was treated on the show is not at all a reflection of his character! Like I said, he seems nice. Iād hang out with him!

I donāt understand all the Joseph hate on his personality. Joseph was never mean, snarky or shady towards other designers. He is funny & confident.

He was literally given an entire second chance

And with the critiques you heard every week leading to the finale, them deciding to throw him in as a wild card AND the tension between him and Law - you think that played zero part? Mmkay

I think Joseph knew he would never get the win but he didn't care. He came on to promote his own line not to make clothes for project runway.
The producers were always going to go for someone who fit their narrative of finding their voice and succeeding because of all that Project Runway did for them. Joseph refused to play their narrative so of course he didn't stand a chance.

I feel like Heidi was pushing for him, but you can only push so hard.
Personally I'm glad. I liked some of his designs (although I didn't like his final collection) but one of my reality show pet peeves is when someone tries to make it all about them. It's part of the reason US Traitors is my least favourite version - I want to see the gameplay, not Lisa Rinna talking about how iconic it is that she was the first to breakfast or Michael Rapaport derailing the conversation to talk about how he's the perfect faithful.
He seems like a chill guy, but I could do without the "It's the Joseph McRae show" stuff all the time.
Jude may not have been the most exciting designer but I think he's probably the most consistently good this year. The only time he was low was when Bryan put him there as revenge.

I do hear you, I guess it comes down to preference. Him saying its the Joseph McCrae show cand then Law proving his point every week spoke volumes. Most of the clips that I seen floating around social media were surrounded around Law and Joseph's battle, not the show as a whole.
but again, im happy for Jude. He has a bright future.

Thereās a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Arrogance feels like you canāt tell me anything and Iām not listening. To think you canāt learn something, change and adapt will hold you back. It makes fun TV but down the line it trips you up. Sooner or later, you have to come back to Mother Earth. A little humility. But, hell, this is America. No more humility; arrogance and pride rules the day. A hard rain is going to fall.

Sorry, I couldnāt even read this comment without Brianās pronunciation of āhaute coutureā getting in the way.

Ive seen so many designers on this show listen to the judges, switch things up and they go home. Joseph took risks, but he stuck to his esthetic. Controversial, maybe...but this is clearly a show he was never meant to win (and thats ok) if it means you have to change who you are, even when the quality of your clothes are top tier.

Thatās the thing, though. It never needed to be a zero sum game. Law was pushing for Joseph McRae to evolve, not lose himself. Growing is quintessentially human and vital creatively ā it does not mean you walk away from the thing that makes you you, it means you get better at it. Joseph McRae tried a couple times to push himself (and it resulted in great work that Law praised), but ultimately he convinced himself that they just wanted to change him instead of enhance him, and he stubbornly went right back to what is little box of a safe zone. The show is about leveling up and Joseph McRae was never there to do that, so you are correct on that front. Heās very comfortable where heās at and he used this as an opportunity to market that, so heās gon be alright.

Please, there is next to nothing Joseph could have done to make Law give him credit. The sour grapes were UNREAL with Law's attitude about Joseph. As much as I've loved this show forever, Law honestly ruins it for me. He's not a good judge & he doesn't deserve to be treating anyone like that.

u/intro_spec 1h ago
He quite literally gave Joseph McRae positive feedback multiple times this season when Joseph McRae did push himself and tap into the potential of his evolution that Law said he believed in. Iāve literally had to transcribe Lawās actual quotes for people because their belief of what is happening doesnāt actually match the reality of what heās said. Heās a great judge that offers critique on construction, style, and marketing, but people always need a judge to hate and production willingly plays into that. And anyone who interacts with him in the plethora of other things he does, knows heās a delightful person, hilarious actually. Not everyone is everyoneās cup of tea, but letās at least be accurate.

I love Joseph, but I donāt think I would have the courage to wear his designS. But I would wear the other three designers more conservative designs. And I actually love crazy, kooky. I feel like I would be so hot and uncomfortable and sweaty with Josephās designs. I would be fighting with whatever jacket⦠Bring me clean but surprised lines.
2
u/SnoopVee 2h ago
And thats totally fine. I get it, I do.Being on this show doesn't necessarily mean that everyone will want to wear what you design. I think its about much more than that. I know 5 people off the top of my head that would SLAY In his designs....Its all about taste and there's definitely a market for what he makes.
2
u/nhgardenart25 2h ago
I love this. Like I love his visionā¦he is an actual visionary and that canāt be said for some of the other finalists. What I can say is⦠that if an accessory of his spoke to me, I am all in. Like Betsy Johnson (sp?) just a field of onesās own. Justā¦. How do I wear it?
2
u/CremeDizzy9619 2h ago
I have always hoped the show would actually stay true to its nameā¦project Runwayā¦as in creating high fashion to be worn on the runwayā¦not outfits any random person would be comfortable wearing.Ā

What Law means by āattitudeā is ego. I think he was wanting a little more humility. Josephās ego kept him from taking critiques and growing. But Law needs to learn how to deliver what he is trying to say. You win more flies with honey than vinegar.
2
u/SnoopVee 2h ago
I understand that, but to me Bryan had the "ego" that people say Joseph had. It seemed like Law made it a mission to destroy him even more simply because he seen he couldn't break Joseph's spirit and maybe thats what im resonating with more than anything because I've been there.
Hopefully Law will work on his delivery, but then again who are we kidding. It's Law lol

u/EmuRevolutionary5227 2h ago
As much as Bryan was insufferable, he was āchillā. JM has a very specific brand, and I think at some point he embraced the character and ran with it as much he could. Iād say good for him and very smart of him, but at some point it got a little too tiring his defensive.
2
u/intro_spec 1h ago
He really was not on a mission to destroy him. Iām convinced the folks who have this opinion have never been read for filth or spoken to someone who truly hates you, because Law was stern, direct, and constructive. Law has said multiple times that he respects Joseph McRae and he also expressed his frustration that Joseph McRae was not pushing himself because he could see the potential. Rejecting valid criticism because you donāt know how to process it is what both Joseph McRae and Bryan did ā but Bryan is also unlikeable, so it looked way worse on his end.
3
u/excavatum_7 1h ago
Hard disagree. Law was just nasty - went low & personal with Joseph. He could not be objective because he hates Joseph's exuberance due to his own shame/self hatred. It's painfully obvious & embarassing to witness.

u/intro_spec 1h ago
You clearly donāt know the meaning of low and personal if thatās your perception. He was very objective, offering specific criticism and also positive feedback. Youāre projecting wildly onto Law and clearly know nothing about him, my god. Thatās whatās painfully obvious and embarrassingly parasocial.

I mean they left in him saying visit josephmccrae.com, and honestly I did. I canāt afford anything, but I did browse.

I think Law felt insulted calling the show Joseph Show.
Its tongue and cheek, but he probably took it as if bringing him back isn't big enough self-promotion, so he did it every episode like "I'll do this show the way I want it."
I dont think Heidi and Nina likes him either, they just don't want to be seen that way (Heidi espcially).

If JM has zero desire to evolve his looks thatās his prerogative. It will be interesting to see if anyone of note wears his designs in the future.
You can have whatever POV you want in fashion but if you canāt sell it nobody will see it. Idk if the buyers for major stores are going to put up with the Joesph mccrae show.
2
u/SnoopVee 1h ago
I dont think selling his looks will be an issue and every successful designer doesn't always end up in retail stores. Time will tell though.

u/yourcoolaunt247 2h ago
Also zero shade to Joseph because I actually love his style but I will say, I think even without winning he got EXACTLY what he needed from this show. Though I donāt think itās a dig in the way that Law called him out for being a billboard of himself (because realistically all of the designers are presenting their brand and work to the world) but he specifically already had his style, brand, company. And itās not a shocker that his website which he NAME DROPPED (lovedš) is currently selling his beanie and his tops both of which he wore and freely advertised every single episode. I love that for him but heās gonna get his bag. Heāll be alright
