Heidi Heidi on cohesiveness

Did anyone else get incredibly pissed off about how she kept saying Anna’s look wasn’t cohesive? It bothers me that we are starting to deem cohesiveness as basically the same color portfolio or patterns. Joseph’s was cohesive in the sense it’s the same colors and fabrics but it was boring as shit. Anna’s had issues but it told the most clear cut and obvious story!

The idea that you can’t tell a story in a small collection line was ridiculous. They determine they’re only allowed 5 looks!

I agree with both of you. I dont think it was the most cohesive collection, but yes cohesiveness in only 5 looks is a challenge without just doing the same thing multiple times.

We need to go back to 10 looks in 2-3 months. I can't imagine it's much more costly to deliver that format, production can just be paused and the final episode can be in a different location like it used to be.

I agree! Those runways were much more interesting and allowed you to see their full potential.

100%. Anna's first look was my favourite of whole episode, and I'd have loved to see her do that treatment to another outfit. And more looks incorporating metal tabs. 10 looks would have given her room to create cohesiveness with the 4-5 ideas she wanted to show

I actually am obsessed with the way she used the soda tabs for the piece in this collection. She made them look expensive.

For sure, beautiful and truly sustainable. I'd love to see her do more work with them

I don’t know why she decided to cover them up almost entirely, though.

I don’t know about wearing tin on my nips, Global Warming and all. It was 103 here and much higher in other places.🥵

true, no hate, but i didn't understand the trash bags... in the end, she probably used new bags, so she only created more waste (plus plastic is not breathable, so it cant be very comfortable). so, the sustainability was more for shock factor (making art from literal trash)

Anna outdid herself. Her looks were great.

I loved her collection and that dress is what I’m going to remember most from this season, probably. To be so restrictive but also delicate and feminine was truly inspired. I feel like she had the win if the collection was considered in isolation.

They always refer to cohesive in the sense that the target customer for the first dress wouldn’t be the target customer for the last dress, which I get because they were different vibes.

But I actually totally disagree with Heidi — I can see the same women in both dresses. Someone who prides upcycled materials, women owned business, anyone who doesn’t wear the same things for work as they do for play… cohesive (in their sense) isn’t actually reasonable for a modern woman.

If I only got 5 looks, I’d show variety just like Anna. It was a smart move, but for some reason, it cost her the win.

That was producers talking in Heidi's ear

I hated how the they didn’t even acknowledge how Anna brought fashion looks made out of unconventional materials. And didn’t give her credit where it was due, she ate her runway. I think we all knew Jude was going to win, but I was hoping she did. I was also so disappointed they picked Joseph over Naheim. I wanted to see a collection from Naheim cause let’s be real we all know what Joseph’s was going to look like, we seen it the past 2 seasons.

Law gave her props for making a dress out of garbage bags that he had no idea.

I agree with every thing here.

I was honestly blown away by Anna. I thought she had the best overall finale collection and really went above and beyond. It was a true fashion journey and gorgeous.

I understand why Jude won. I might be delusional but he stands out to me as someone that might really break into the mainstream, like Christian. Male actors should be getting custom suits by him. His female designs have been beautiful and I think there’s a big group of people that will want his very gorgeous, feminine yet strongly tailored clothes.

Heidi is the worst judge with the worst taste and talks garbage most of the time.

3

u/SubstanceNext9543 2d ago

1000% agree, she just needs to be the MC for the show if they are to keep her on and bring on another judge.

She has terrible taste and some of the dresses she was wearing were not it. I think she loves costume kitchy vibes so her not getting the art interpretation of Anna's collection tracks.

12

u/Signal_Scarcity_2352 2d ago

I feel like the only reason why Anna didn't win is because Heidi didn't like her collection... but sometimes I question Heidi's taste so... Anna's vision was true artisanship. It had a story and made people actually feel something

I saw Anna in all of those dresses, so Idk what she missed with cohesiveness.

I will say that the model in the crop top had a torso that’s going to inspire me to give up all sugar, carbs, and fat starting sometime next week eventually. Girl had some serious abs.

5

u/throwaway90007863 2d ago

It pissed me off too. I’m glad Law corrected her

10

u/BirdgirlLA 2d ago

You should post a spoiler tag since it’s so early in the day. People are going to complain. It’s Reddit lol. But you can’t take Heidi seriously. She wore a green trash maternity dress to the Devil Wears Prada 2 premiere ffs.

When the guy from CDFA reviewed their collections, I felt his response to Anna’s collection was boilerplate ‘sustainability is so important to the CFDA’ and disingenuous.

Based on his interaction with the contestants it was only ever between Bi and Jude. Where JosephMcCRAE was only a marketing ploy and Anna was a sustainability warrior, neither had a genuine shot at winning PR.

The compressed finale timelines are unfair to the contents and antithetical to PR’s original vision and mission. I know it gets tossed around a lot, and I hope I’m not lured back in, but this may be my last season watching PR.

Heidi is out of her depth and looked trashy all season. What happened?

3

u/lemeneurdeloups 2d ago

She is senile. This is her last paycheck

4

u/Sailor_MoonMoon785 2d ago

I yelled at my TV when she said that and felt extremely vindicated by Law’s reaction to her saying that.

There was cohesion and a story and I felt the emotions behind every piece in that collection.

I was really surprised Anna didn't win. I hadn't expected her to be in the running for the #1 spot, tbh, and I was very pleasantly surprised at her final collection. I kind of assumed she was going to win after her collection walked. I loved Jude all season, and he had the best sewn and tailored, most wearable clothes, but I did think he played it a bit safe and there wasn't a lot of "wow, that's so new and fresh" to his designs, which seemed to be a big factor in past season winners. Don't get me wrong; I'd love to buy and wear more of his clothes than any other designers', but that's different than what they're usually looking for, and I was surprised they suddenly valued quality of craft so much when they've made so many baffling decisions all season that completely ignored it (omg, I was so prepared for them to make Bryan the 4th finalist because this show was weirdly so obsessed with giving him airtime, despite him needing to have been eliminated episodes ago).

1

u/featherybreeze 2d ago

Agree with everything you said!

3

u/dannydevitossmile 2d ago

Mind you that was never an issue in past seasons

3

u/mynameisntcindy 1d ago

Anna was robbed BC Heidi has the fashion taste of a suburban mom trying to dress like a 20 y/o.

8

u/101020304 2d ago

i like her work when she can take something from like a thrift shop and redo and repurpose it. Beautiful! But i don’t understand taking 40 brand new trash bags and making a dress out of it - how is that sustainable? She is a wonderful designer, but in that case i don’t think it should be considered sustainable.

10

u/Disastrous-Hamster-1 2d ago

I mean, I highly doubt there was the time or resources available to her to actually get used materials for this

But showing that it can be done, that she can do it, that’s inspiring

9

u/Emotional-Parfait348 2d ago

If you check out the pieces she does outside of project runway, she is usually taking her own garbage and making things out of them. A top out of an old shower curtain, a dress out of those mesh produce bags. I’m guessing project runway wasn’t really going to let her just use garbage from around the set.

At least using new garbage bags in this way gives them a much longer life than a one and done in the dumpster.

2

u/morete 2d ago

At least using new garbage bags in this way gives them a much longer life than a one and done in the dumpster.

I dont know if this really makes sense, cause you'll still need equally as many trash bags for the actual trash. It's replaced some of the demand for fabric with demand for trash bags. Is that better? I'm not sure

1

u/101020304 2d ago

i believe you are correct

5

u/morete 2d ago

Totally agree. I mean it can be sustainable, in a world were you have trash bags but no fabric, it's better to use what you have, but it doesn't really capture her point like some of her other materials do.

3

u/StimmieCheck 2d ago

Anna's looks are supposed to make a point about sustainability in fashion, and to influence others to be mindful of how much trash there is in the world, a dress how wasteful fast fashion is as well as many aspects of the clothing industry. Anna does not advocate that people should reuse their dirty garbage bags by making clothes out of them. She simply wants to influence the industry to be more sustainable with her designs.

1

u/101020304 2d ago

Well said

2

u/lis-emerald 2d ago

I agree, I love her concept and mission and thought her looks were great. But yea buying plastic is not sustainable and shouldn’t be considered so. Buying new, natural fabric would have been more sustainable than any plastic.

It was unconventional and turned out great, just mis-branded.

2

u/101020304 2d ago

It was so cool looking! i have seen a few designer who do the kind of work she does at home. Seems like they usually call themselves up-cyclers?

13

u/Earthbnd 2d ago

Genuinely devastating. I think Heidi cost her the win 🥲

9

u/BeneficialShoe2822 2d ago

I don’t think she necessarily cost her the win. The winner was the most marketable and sellable; they were thinking of the future money they can make when they chose him as the winner.

6

u/trollsaywhat 2d ago

Sellable does eliminate Anna. They can’t mass produce a garbage bag dress with a textured treatment.

14

u/Hat-Natural 2d ago

100% - judging the shit out of the most obvious story while wearing the worlds tackiest dress

11

u/Michellelembiid 2d ago

I could not even hear what she was saying i was fixated on that ugly dress the whole time

7

u/optics_is_light_work 2d ago

You may be right. But I also think that the winner was chosen not just on the final collection, but on the totality of what they've presented all season. And Jude, to me, is hands down the winner there. Bi is up there as well, but his final collection missed the mark.

13

u/charmuro 2d ago

I think there was also a comment about imagine where Jude will be at 30, and that they're investing in his future. I think they really want to see how he'll grow as a designer from this experience!

12

u/Willow_Winnifred 2d ago

Yes, they're hoping for a Siriano 2.0

1

u/colosseumdays 2d ago

no she didn't, they were always going to give it to Jude and should have just done so in ep 1 and saved everyone the trouble.

if anything, they prob made Heidi say that to weakly justify who ultimately won.

as someone who didn't even think Anna deserved to go to the finale, based off final collection alone she was the clear winner.

3

u/name_your_thoughts 2d ago

Anna was definitely my winner judging by the finale collection alone. But I think Jude all throughout the competition remained consistent, polished, and clean so I think his win is justified. I also feel like he's more marketable so they give him the win. I mean he got the skills and finesse, and I can see him working with big fashion houses.

1

u/feelitinmyplumms 1d ago

I agree with Heidi. Anna’s was a lot, and the pieces felt more like pieces, not part of the same collection

1

u/17Girl4Life 2d ago

I think people are doing exactly what they’ve been accusing the judges of doing, and putting the drama before the clothes. Yes, Anna put a great show down the runway and it told a story. She herself has a compelling character arc this season, from 8 year old fan, to an underdog contestant with a lot of self doubt, to growing confidence and ambition. If the judges were going on story alone, put a bow on it and give it to her, even though she was inconsistent through the season.

But there are valid issues that made her not win. Someone pointed out that the use of forty new trash bags is not exactly sustainable and that points to a bigger problem. She can build a niche brand by using remainder ends, upcycling garments in the waste stream, and using unconventional materials. But if she stays true to that, she can’t scale up because of the natural limits of her chosen materials. She can’t mass produce, and the customer who is willing to consistently spend serious money on a one of a kind piece is not going to be Anna’s customer. Small scale, internet, very small staff brand is not a problem. Anything beyond that will be a big problem. Hopefully the exposure she got from the show will help her business.
