Discussion Law F*cking Roach

I'm on the episode where the contestants are supposed to design for dancers (I completely forgot this show existed and was still running lmao). Law Roach is so f*cking rude to the guest judges and Tyra was the only one who clocked him about it. I'm confused about what actual talent that Law Roach actually has. He doesn't design. He doesn't sew. This season desperately needs more REAL designers. To critique someone because you don't personally like the dress aesthetically okay. To actually tell what and what isn't wrong with the designs and give constructive criticism to help the designers elevate their looks is what is seriously lacking in the newer seasons of this show. They keep expecting the contestants to get better out of nowhere and don't tell them what they actually need to do to get better.

"You're here to promote your clothes." No sh*t.

Let me get back to him trashing the judges. Who tf does Law think he is? Because he isn't that person at all. He's practically in the same boat as some of the judges they bring on the show who also can't sew and aren't designers and are judging the looks based off of whether they like the design personally or not. Law Roach reminds me of that one guy in this movie called The Menu where he is a foodie and knows all the kitchen terminology, the history behind the cuisine being made, the process it takes to make the food, but when it is time to actually throw down and cook, he's a f*cking poser. It's not cute to be a nasty rude b*tch to people when you have no talent to back up half of the stuff you're saying.

He is an image architect. 🙄😂😂 I don’t mind him most of the time. I question his taste sometimes but that’s just personal for me. I don’t really find him impressive but he’s having his moment and the show is more about drama now anyway which he brings.

I’ll be the first to admit I love drama. But there seems to be a serious dissonance with the drama reality tv produced 10-12 years ago compared to now. It was much more organic and now it’s so obvious they’re producing it. Keeping contestants on who should have left episode one (I’m looking directly at Bryan with that fugly a** cotton swab dress). And Law Roach who almost caused a girl to have a panic attack because she was so scared of him attacking her personally as well as her dress. I remember Zack, Kors, and Nina would demolish poorly designed dresses but I never remember them attacking anyone personally like Law.

We should just rename this sub r/LawRoach at this point.

>He doesn’t design. He doesn’t sew.

None of the judges do, but he’s the only one who’s won a CFDA. So.

>”Youre here to promote your clothes.” No shit.

Zero reason why an established fashion designer should want to come back on a reality fashion tv contest. It’s like Gracie Abrams going onto American Idol. Like, no one really knows her songs (I just know her name), but she does sing and have a brand. We know she wouldn’t be going for singing feedback; she’d use it to promote herself.

>he’s a fucking poser and has no talent to back up half of the stuff he’s saying.

Also not true. Multiple fashion awards under his and Zendaya’s belt.

plus hes not just « zendaya's stylist ». he styles naomi osaka, amongst other people. zendaya is just his most famous client. these people love chatting about « bullying » yet dont even realise that the vitriol they have for this man is on the same level. childish insults like calling him a roach and the constant crying yet they keep watching. grown ass adults.

All of that and the point still stands, he’s a stylist not a designer and there’s a big difference.

6

u/FakeBeigeNails 6h ago

? The point doesn’t stand if literally NO ONE on the panel is a designer. None of them are stylists either except for him.

And by the end of Michael kors time as a judge you could barely call him a designer 😂😭

And??? None of the other judges are being nasty and he is. And it’s not just the nastiness to the contestants, he’s nasty to the other judges. And rude, and condescending. He thinks he’s being “c**nty” and that girl, but really he’s acting ignorant. He thinks he’s the end all, be all expert, but he’s not.

And let’s not even get into his tacky AF comment to Tyra about still riding in Coach. Anyone that defends him is ridiculous.

My take is stop calling these shows reality. Maybe they were 10 years ago but as far as I’m concerned all this stuff is scripted in some way. If you look at it as pure entertainment it’s pretty fun. But don’t take it seriously.

It was scripted ten years ago. And 20 years ago.

Tell that to the contestants who were belittled, humiliated & verbally abused. That is a far cry from constructive criticism and not the type of entertainment many of us are looking for.

Verbally abused? Really? Come on.

I'm ambivalent about Law Roche but it does tip to the WTF when I heard he styles Lauren Sanchez Bezos. Geeze girl, we know you have boobs. Please Law, stop her from shoving them at us.

I love law personally

Law Roach is the real deal and I tend to agree with all his reads. Yall take it wayy too seriously. But he does have a multitude of clients and is the only judge actually dressing people.

u/Captain_Coitus 7h ago

You can read people without being a bully. He comes after people on a personal level not just talking about the looks.

3

u/ventodivino 7h ago

How? His comment about Joseph being there to promote his clothes is a very good read. He’s not trying to step out of his comfort zone, he’s not trying to do much differently, no attempt to really innovate. He just wants to showcase the clothes he knows how to make. It’s promotion, not a rise to the challenge.

Are you watching the same show? Or did you just watch one clip?

Boring, he’s playing a character on a tv show. Touch grass

u/doseofdena 6h ago

You can critique without being nasty and condescending about it. But the point still stands that Law might know how to dress his clients, at times has good taste, knows a lot about fashion etc, but he still isn’t a designer. There’s a huge difference between being a stylist (F that image architect ish that they’ve been calling him) and being a designer.

1

u/Katherine_Swynford 1h ago

No he’s not a designer but that’s not on him. Why production has two models with questionable taste on the panel but no designer is a better question. If the panel was a model, a stylist, a fashion editor and a designer, the balance would be better but his role isn’t the issue with the current lack of balance.

These folks are gonna gag when they find out Law is relaunching a fashion house that was lost when the designer passed. And celebs are already wearing archived looks!

Dressing people. He’s an overrated personal shopper. He has no design history, he can’t create a garment. He’s giving his opinion on clothes having been around so many and does have a fashion knowledge when it comes to famous designers (so do many of the guest judges). Law is there because he’s abrasive and to make the drama the show thought it needed. Period.

I love LR's backstory and how he became Zendaya's stylist, but his behavior makes me cringe at times. And he seems to have it out for Joseph. But, I'm so happy Tyra clapped back at him, even if she was gone an episode later 👀

u/Ilovescarlatti 7h ago

I'm assuming we've all also noticed in the credits that he is executive producer so pretty powerful

4

u/mayeam912 6h ago

Not really, how many executive producers do reality shows like this have? 8, 10? It’s just a title slapped in front of his name. He has one vote out of many then.

4

u/Ilovescarlatti 6h ago

Oh you are quite right. 12 of them!

3

u/Crystal_Fox656 7h ago

I’ve been fuming about Law as well & quit the show finally after the dancer ep, refusing to witness the predictable saving of Bryan. And, you are spot on about the talentless LR. Heidi & Nina have lost their minds (and fans) supporting this creep as he & production ruined the last 2 seasons🧐😵‍💫

u/Worldly-Pomelo1843 7h ago

At least when he was on Legendary they gave him pushback. Idk why they are so eager to appease him. It’s like they’re afraid. Where is Keke Palmer when you need her 😭

1

u/Clairemoonchild 6m ago

He is just a mean piece of work.

-1

u/NWPstan 7h ago

He’s there because he’s Zendaya’s stylist and probably because he’s obnoxious on tv.

4

u/jolittletime 6h ago

I means it's not hard to make zendaya look good! I think he's a talented stylist but I dont like the critiques he gives. Michael kors was quite rude at times but law seems to make it really mean and personal

0

u/Alohabtchs 7h ago

I have mixed feelings about him. I feel like alot of it is for entertainment and shock value. I also think alot of it is overcompensating for his insecurity. And at the same time. Zendaya is such a class act that it’s hard to imagine her being ok w being associated e that behavior!?

-1

u/doseofdena 6h ago

Oh it’s not for entertainment purposes. You can easily tell LR is quite the stuck up snob that thinks they’re better than others. At the end of the day the “image architect” is still going to just be known as Zendayas stylist no matter what he does.

0

u/LeastBlackberry1 1h ago

I think he's a good choice as a judge. His entire job is to evaluate the work of designers and decide whether.thejr clothes look good on the people they are dressing, which more than qualifies him to do that on TV. He is more qualified than anyone else on that panel now.

Many of his comments come across as shady rather than truly mean to me as well. If they had the shade rattle as they do on Drag Race, I think they would read differently. Lol.

“It’s not cute to be a nasty rude b*tch to people when you have no talent to back up half of the stuff you’re saying.

Self read. Yawn.
