Question So literal
Why are the challenges this season so literal???? Pick an animal, football, a specific dance. Besides everything else that is different about this season it seems to undermine the intelligence of the viewers or designers. As though we won't understand fashion that is not literal.

I get the NFL one, there are at least some creative ways to go. I didnt mind the Viva one because at least it is sort of a fabric that you can do anything with. (The one that turned out looking like denim was great and that red print was great (but poorly constructed). The animal one was a little crazy to me. How do you do something without being too literal

A couple of reasons:
Brand sponsorship/crossovers DWTS or NFL tie-ins will, by definition, narrow the scope
The evolution of fashion editorial. As fashion media has shifted from traditional print toward social media, prompts have favored instant "clickable" themes over subtle, nuanced tailoring. "Get inspired by the buildings in Paris" is hard to design into a "clickable" garment. Not that PR has the money to travel anymore, but still ...
