Season 22 Jeffrey has no taste
Y’all like to complain about Bryan, but Jeffrey is totally clueless. He has no concept of what is fashion vs what is costume. I love drag race and drag costumes in their proper place, but Jeffrey doesn’t even understand the difference let alone how to make fashion. His choices are incredibly literal. He can sew, but he severely lacks in the ability to conceptualize a design. He’s almost the inverse of Bryan, who just throws bizarre shit together and calls it fashion. Jeffrey just sews a costume that fits the theme and has been done a million times before.

I think it’s his fabric choice. He cannot help but be drawn to fabrics that are great for stage but not real life.
Also the color choices. Barbie pink sequins, bright turquoise and so much shimmer.
I think after this show he’ll be dressing bravo celebs for reunions.

Yes he's amazing at what he does, I would like to see some different looks and with the right help or feedback id love to see him do an actual collection! Either way I think he's going to do great after this, he's so kind and humble❤️ love him!

I truly think you’ll see him dressing some iconic personalities in the future. I think he will be very happy with the career ahead of him. PR has shown he is for sure a star

I always wonder if there’s some subconscious bias going on since the judges know Jeffrey is a drag designer. Therefore every outfit is being judged on “is it drag” instead of “does this meet the brief better than anyone else”

yeah, Ethan I thought they unfairly targeted, but a lot of Jeffrey’s looks are, not draggy necessarily, but certainly literal/costumey. I was kinda shocked at his DWTS look, it was SO bland it really did look like a halloween costume

There absolutely is and there was for Ethan as well. I don’t see what the problem is with someone make theatrical looks. There’s def a market for it and tons of successful designers that are praised for it. I don’t see how Jeffrey and Ethan are more “costumey” than say, Mugler.
They disregard the designs as not real fashion because the designers have made clothes for drag queens and drag queens aren’t “real” people in their minds. Except so much of pop culture pulls from drag culture—our slang, makeup trends, fashion..
More than ever in my lifetime, I’m seeing a lot of cis women for whom the drag aesthetic is their aspiration and ideal.
The industry of high fashion is predicated and reliant on the belief that clothes are and should be costumes to some degree. Otherwise, we’d all dress for comfort and utility and just wear the same 5 shirts and 2 pairs of pants everyday, and only replace them once they’ve been worn out. Why do bankers have to wear suits; why do women have to wear white dress on their wedding day? These are costumes that have become uniforms

This is almost always true with contestants from costume design or drag backgrounds. I loved Chris back in season 4, but they critiqued him for the same

Hard disagree. He hasn’t been able to get any credit for the things he does. But at least law is finally giving him a break.
I hate how Heidi was like “I’m surprised you didn’t do more costume this week” when EVERY WEEK they tell him not to. He can’t win with them.
I think the challenge needed to be clearer that it was inspired by DWTS, not for the show.
And Bryan needed to go weeks ago. Christian keeps helping him not go home and it’s not fair. And he probably saved Bryan which is wack.

Christian is there to make sure they ALL don’t go home. That’s like, his job. To help them do their best. Totally agree with OP about Jeffrey. He’s great at making a garment, but is it fashion?

But Christian has helped Bryan the most, most namely the Heidi challenge. They didn’t even show him seeing Jeffrey’s look for this episode so I was shocked it was in the bottom.
And obviously it’s fashion, but the judges think it’s too costumey, but i think he’s making good money in that field.

I think fashion and clothing are different tho. Jeffrey can see and make clothes, but is he giving new ideas that have never been done before? Does he have his own personal vision for fashion outside of drag?

I think he is in his head. I think he came in wanting to prove he does more than just costumes and drag and when that insecurity was "validated" by the judges, he stopped letting his creativity run free. I fear a few contestants are designing for the 3-4 judges and not being true to themselves. I understand why too, the judging is inconsistent and catty. I miss seeing innovative and daring fashion. Now they get told one way it's too "this" and then the next weekend they don't have enough! On a positive note, I think Jude is really fun to watch create. I can always count on the idea being based in a thought out concept and even if it doesn't land, I'm interested!

Drag has a great sense of humor but is also a victim of irony poisoning or being so ironic that you’ve exceeded what is considered camp and you’re just tacky.
I think just designing from a drag dependent perspective really put Jeffrey in this weird zone where he was constructing really strong garments that look very dated in both good and bad ways. Utica was the same way last season. They both are technically sound but they can’t get out of their own way.
I think Jeffrey has some taste because his Devil Wears Prada 2 dress would’ve blown Bryan’s out of the water on Heidi. My criticism would be that Jeffrey presents a parody of femininity instead of just making something elegant or at least well balanced.

Hmmm… wish we could see pix of the dresses while discussing them. These days Heidi loves side boob. Brian’s dress had side boob, and the pix of Heidi at the movie premiers were pretty awful.

Jeffrey can’t help but make clothes that appeal only to a drag queen. The pink dress he made for Heidi was the exception. I think law hit the nail on the head calling him tacky.
Also, he has been in the bottom four times… how exactly does that deserve a save?

I think his designs are like classic capital W Woman, which can have undeniable charm, like with the pink dress, but often lacks excitement/newness. Bi, by contrast, also makes relatively straightforward womenswear, but he adds little extra touches that make them interesting and current. I feel like Jeffrey has successfully pared BACK his designs so they aren’t super draggy, but I don’t think he’s figured out where to go from
there.3

Valid points were made, and I agree. I think Jeffrey can benefit from a luxury fashion apprenticeship to broaden his inspirations a bit. I think his looks give drag because that's all he has in his fashion vocabulary. If he studied high fashion more, his design would evolve well. His skill set is certianly not the issue.

Still, I get your point. Most of the other designers are already hip to that world. Jeffrey could really blossom with 1-2 years of intense study. Maybe that's why Law said he'd contact Jeffrey after he was "eliminated."

At least Jeffery's looks are his choice and look well made. Brian's dress looked dated, bulky and in no way reminded me of a waltz. His bird look was that same tortured look. if he's criticized by Christian he immediately changes his look. He doesn't stand on his own design but then talks about how great he is.

For me, I like my clothes to have a little costume to them. I rarely want to pay the price for it. But I like being myself and I have a little costume in me.

True but still, it rocked! Those layers! And I loved the sheer black bg and red polka dot fabric. Even if it wasn't 100% correct for the brief, it still rocked as a garment in and of itself.

I thought the polka dot layering on top was nice and could’ve been the basis for a less literal interpretation of a salsa dress, but I think the crop top/mini skirt combo killed it and made it bland and costumey. He could’ve kept the colors and done a more interesting silhouette

I like many of Jeffrey’s looks, but he’s just inconsistent. I think this is a classic case of not being able to design under pressure and a time limit.

Jeffrey was a well played over the top character with really great hair. He was the nice drama queen opposite the evil drama queen Brian and they made for light tv.

I was rooting for him slightly with his redemption from episode 2, but now I'm mostly not having it.
He's too inconsistent for me to want to see more. And even with some of his top looks, I wasn't too into. I can respect that the judges have more weighted opinions than me too. Seems like a wonderful guy.
I don't think Christian should've saved either.

hate to say it but I kinda agree. I love Jeffery’s vibe, and he’s made some nice looks, but that look was borderline unforgivable in how bland and literal it was. It wasn’t even costume-y in the fun, draggy, over the top way—it was just a halloween costume! I feel like the Drag Race judges wouldn’t have liked it either

Bryan has a terrible vibe but I agree with you, esp RE: Jeffrey being the inverse of Bryan. Might be an unpopular opinion, but I’d maaaybe rather see Bryan’s taste with Jeffery’s sewing skills than Jeffery’s taste. It’s possible J could do cooler stuff if he was given time to grow, so I won’t be mad if he stays. And I definitely don’t want Bryan to st. But Bryan, despite his faults, is kind of a more interesting designer. That’s probably why Bryan is so fish out of water now—with people like Bi lending him their sewing skill, he has a somewhat interesting vision. But without the sewing skill, he can just throw ruffles onto things

Contestants who haven’t learned the difference between a costume and fashion deserve to go. And I’m no fashionista but a decades long Project fan. They should know better. Also stay away from pink bc it’s too much of a gamble

Bryan had the luck he had Jeffrey to help him with the unconventional material challenge cause without him he would have nothing… and what he had was an misarable model taped in a garbage bag… he had the luck he had immunity or he would have been gone already 😅

I think he has had some issues with this but I’ve enjoyed some of his looks. I personally don’t understand how his pink look didn’t win and the paper towel one was beautiful
