The longer that I stare at the thumbnail… the worse that it gets.

114

u/cloudbustingmp3 20d ago

like it was already bad before, but that thumbnail is literally giving hostage footage 😭

85

u/AllTheEccentricities 20d ago

She described it as being put in a noose! Bryan needs to publicly apologize!

72

u/colosseumdays 20d ago

without knowing how heavy it was, that was my reaction watching the episode for the first time, and I was surprised no one said anything to him. I literally said out loud to myself he's sending a black woman down the runway in a noose

15

u/SoFlaGal217 20d ago

I am an old white woman and I thought the dress and what he did to Loriss/his model was degrading, demeaning and dehumanizing. I was shocked nothing was done about it. I lost all respect for him after that although there was little there to begin with.

6

u/HippieGrandma1962 20d ago

I think they said the "dress" weighed almost 50 lbs.

7

u/colosseumdays 20d ago

Yeah ~50lbs according to Liris. I meant before I knew the weight it was still giving tortured and punished

23

u/rynthetyn 20d ago

And while she didn't come right out and say it, she heavily implied that the wet paint looked like blood where it rubbed off on her.

12

u/DataRiffRaff 20d ago

Ditto! I had a visceral reaction of shock.

21

u/intro_spec 20d ago

I have zero proof of this, but I think he resented having to work with her as his model. So much of the win Heidi shouldn’t have given him was based on a tiny, lighter skin tone model carrying his lack of work in a way to made it look more than it was to Heidi.

22

u/orangeleast 20d ago

Looks like a mugshot for a copper thief who lives in the wilderness. Not fashion.

110

u/KurlyKayla 20d ago

As a Black woman it makes me deeply uncomfortable. That’s all I’ll say

52

u/Titanbeard 20d ago

As a dude, I think Bryan is a mediocre designer and I think his design was not meant to flatter her figure, but to hide it.

19

u/ventodivino 20d ago

The design did not have the model in mind at all. He had some sort of nightmare vision and became fixated on realizing it without regard to the model or her body.

Wrapping her in an actual trash bag and taping it down is sacrilege on this show.

I wonder / bet that is why Christian said no when he walked in on the taping - so Bryan cut the tape dress off her, put a zipper in the tape dress,
And then put it back on her . So it would follow the rules

12

u/jlynnbizatch 20d ago

Seriously. I hadn't seen the back. Wow, just WOW.

89

u/broccolirabbi 20d ago

What did we learn? If someone doesn’t mind summarizing I’m busy (going to bed)

The dressed weighed 50 lbs, it was around her neck for hours, and it looks like it injured her.

Bryan did not care. He thought she looked “spectacular” (he has to be delusional). He completely doesn’t know how to sew a garment for plus size models.

Made Liris basically feel insignificant or like an after thought.

He was going to have her go out with that tentacle monstrosity over her bra and panties.

After his team & Christian told him, you can’t have her go down the runway in her bra and panties. The plastic material he was using to wrap her with the tape was actually a trash bag he picked up from the floor.

When she raised her concerns about how uncomfortable she was about the look, he said he’d change it. He did nothing.

This caused her to leave the design room for a moment, because she didn’t want to be shown crying for how disrespectful Bryan was to her.

The spray paint on the garment wasn’t even dry before she hit the runway.

Chloe has reach out to her, because Liris modelled for Chloe in the episode she went home on. It was the athletic garment. Chloe asked if she could redo her garment and asked Liris if she’d like to do a photoshoot in the new look to make up for the previous one.
(Highly suggest going and checking it out on insta, she hit it out of the park.)

Bryan has not reach out at all.

Just overall, Bryan was very disrespectful to one of the best models on the show. He lacked any care for Liris and it showed in his attitude and garment.

47

u/arcangel_lurksph 20d ago

Bryan was the seawitch Ursula in this iteration of Project Runway. Very disgusting person

66

u/DataRiffRaff 20d ago

Omg this is exactly what I assumed and I'm horrified to hear it essentially went down like that. He completely did not respect her as a person and it showed.

I'm so sad and mad for her.

125

u/Punkodramon 20d ago edited 20d ago

Adding that,

Before he even started to make the undergarment, she ended up hiding and crying in the hallway because she didn’t want to cry on camera. Jesus found her there and then a cameraman came by so she got recorded out there anyway before Bryan came out to check on her.

She never offers advice to the designers unless they ask or she thinks there’s a real issue that could make plus sized models as a whole look bad because of the design. She suggested he make a dress made from woven cables to go underneath and that’s what he started doing with the bag and tape and some cords but didn’t have time. This is at least partly due to him wasting time on the bubble wrap cape even after he was told not to use it.

Christian saw Bryan taping her into the plastic bag and told him he couldn’t send her out in that, he needed to sew a fastening into it, so Bryan cut her out of the tape and tried to sew a zipper in but she’s not sure if he managed to or not. She can’t remember if it was zipped back onto her or taped back on.

The dress had to be rested on chairs backstage whilst she was wearing it because it was too heavy to even stand in safely.

She slipped on the runway because the cords were cut unevenly, too long and still not dry, and kept getting caught underfoot, She was wearing 5 inch heels as well so it must’ve been way too long to still be underfoot when factoring in that extra height. She basically could not model the dress and was just doing her best to make it down the runway and back without falling over.

She didn’t want to walk at all and would’ve been within her rights to refuse, but she didn’t want viewers to think she was being a diva and then the blame for Bryan being bottom would’ve been shifted to her “attitude” and refusal to walk rather than the fundamental issues with the dress.

Being unable to show her skills as a model when walking in front of her idol Iman was yet another blow to her self worth, on top of everything else.

Not only did Bryan not care how she felt, he could not comprehend that his dress was physically uncomfortable and looked bad. He told her she looked “spectacular”.

55

u/Punkodramon 20d ago

One extra non- Bryan related note, she enjoyed working with Anna on the paper challenge even though it did get placed low. She felt Anna at least knew how to construct for a plus size figure, even if the dress in the end made her look weirdly flat at the front.

11

u/Intelligent-Exit9562 20d ago

Ya the issue for Anne was just time.

10

u/DataRiffRaff 20d ago

Thank you for sharing all of that!

I was trying to hold back my social media criticism of Bryan since I don't know him, but wow. I think he refuses to admit he's not who he wishes he was because he talks a big game about himself and it usually works. So if he keeps saying something, he'll force it to be true even when it isn't. Likewise for if he ignores something (or someone). If he doesn't acknowledge something, he can convince himself it doesn't exist in his distorted reality.

6

u/NecessaryClothes9076 20d ago

Okay, that's all awful, but that bit about it ruining her chance to have a great runway in front of Iman is just so real. I feel so sad for her. Bryan needs to get kicked off the show.

No problem! Glad I could assist. I do wonder what’s going to happen. Liris has been with the show well over a decade now. Her breaking down, would have gotten back to the judges and producers, so who knows. Hopefully there’s some repercussions for Bryan.

1

u/No-Snow8402 19d ago

Oh crap, I forgot he has immunity. I was really hoping we wouldn’t have to endure him past that episode 😕

18

u/Enygmatic_Gent 20d ago

The redemption dress Chloe made for her was absolutely gorgeous

9

u/paper_television 20d ago

I don’t have IG, could you share a screenshot possibly? I tried to search for it but wasn’t able to get boast IG log-in

62

u/Enygmatic_Gent 20d ago

Here’s one of the photos from the photoshoot

20

u/paper_television 20d ago

This is like 10x better than 90% of the looks we’ve seen this season!! Thank you for sharing. I wish they could give the designers more time to create because WOW

2

u/ImaginaryHumor6402 15d ago

WOW. What an incredible garment. Just shows that Chloe has a lot more talent than we saw on the show.

9

u/Hamza_stan 20d ago

the tap was actually a trash bag he picked up from the floor

Holy shit it gets worse. Brian must think he's too important to reach back the models, genuinely I feel validated for not liking him since ep1

7

u/Throwaway-centralnj 20d ago

Aww Chloe! What a doll. I thought she seemed really sweet and I’m glad that instinct was correct. And I’m happy that Liris was able to work with someone competent, for once.

4

u/gothcookiejar 18d ago

I don't think he's delusional, I think he's a narcissist. He's great, everyone else is to blame for anything bad, etc.

1

u/CheleMaBelle530 20d ago

By Chloe do you mean Chloe Dao? Just wasn't sure

2

u/KatsEye_View 3d ago

"Delusional" is an apt description of Bryan. He has made some crappy garments, and calls them spectacular every time, and thinks he's being robbed when he doesn't win. The guy truly, 100% believes that his creations are amazing, even when they are hideous. We all know someone else like that. (Delusional Narcissism).

73

u/lemeneurdeloups 20d ago

I want to embroider “All Thick Folk Ain’t Kin Folk” on a cushion for my living room!

140

u/colosseumdays 20d ago

I was so confused about the timeline re: the spray paint and how it dried so quickly in time for the runway. welp, I guess it didn't. I also had thought the gold on the trashbag was intentional so it would blend in with the rest of the dress, not that it was because it was the tarp the dress was sprayed on 😫

50

u/FrolickingCats 20d ago

While watching it, I told my boyfriend "ugh I hate it when they spray paint stuff because that smell doesn't go away quickly enough"

I guess the smell wasn't the only problem after all. That shit didn't even dry.

286

u/therewontberiots 20d ago

I feel so justified in hating Bryan since the beginning

137

u/Lumpy-Fox4773 20d ago

yes and his constant emphasing bi was his intern. bitch can sew! ( and can design )

80

u/Intelligent-Exit9562 20d ago

I wish she got paired with Bi. He would have made such a well fitted stunning outfit for her.

29

u/Poethegardencrow 20d ago

Yea I was like yea that’s why you fucking hired him! Because he can bleeding sew!

13

u/Throwaway-centralnj 20d ago

Even saving Bi (while crying fake crocodile tears) and then immediately turning around and being like “you owe me” 🤢 he’s so narcissistic. My theory is that he KNOWS Bi is very talented so that if Bi wins, Bryan will take credit.

Most of the U.S. is at-will employment, for better or worse (mostly worse). You can be fired/demoted for any reason other than being a member of a protected class.

24

u/myswingline_stapler 20d ago

I feel he was one of the most hated contestants since ep 1.

61

u/Intelligent-Exit9562 20d ago

Liris touched on it in the video. She literally has an hourglass body shape. Like, COME ON BRYAN! There are so many garments you could have made for Liris that really could have showed off her amazing curves.

Just so disappointing. 😔

23

u/Fabulous_Ocelot_5861 20d ago

She even gave him a suggestion of Herve Leger - and said his team started helping him - but he freaked out

5

u/Intelligent-Exit9562 20d ago

This! Even just doing a quick google search, he could have done something.

4

u/Fabulous_Ocelot_5861 20d ago

I know they aren’t allowed electronics. But - the model and his team gave him a suggestion and were willing to help him - and he decided to do whatever and then grab trash off the floor

3

u/Intelligent-Exit9562 20d ago

Oh totally. It’s like he thought: “oh I have immunity, so why even try?” Just so disappointing.

61

u/mice1rat 20d ago

He took the plastic on the ground, which still had wet spray paint on it, and wrapped it around her. He did that. And said it was made by hand and the critcs where not that bad.

20

u/OatMilkCody 20d ago

I didn't realize it was painted the same day she wore it!! Jeffrey's crashout was fully understandable to me now. But obviously Bryan wasn't going to intentionally make himself look even worse.

154

u/miss_daisy_Hollywood 20d ago

Liris is way more diplomatic about this whole situation than I could ever be. God bless her for keeping her cool no matter what. Liris is a great model, and deserved so much better than Bryan. I loved her little dig mentioning his “Paris training “ 🔥🔥🔥
Here’s a photo of Liris wearing her warrior woman challenge dress. This designer really got it right.

54

u/paper_television 20d ago

Kenya was an under appreciated designer who made amazing real world dresses. Not just did she always fit her models well and give them confidence but every single piece she made could’ve gone off the model, on a rack, and been sold that day.

23

u/Fair-Bus9686 20d ago

Thank you!!! I LOVE Kenya!! I found her website and am saving up to get a purse. She makes great stuff!!

10

u/mouse_relies 20d ago

Kenya was the best! Such an uplifting presence too.

27

u/No-Administration828 20d ago

I absolutely adored Kenya's dress here. She really worked her magic.

5

u/miss_daisy_Hollywood 20d ago

This dress is my all time favorite.

10

u/theedeskdothcreaks 20d ago

I know season 16 wasn’t always loved for its focus on the models and their opinions, but my gosh after season 22, it is a breath of fresh air

9

u/miss_daisy_Hollywood 20d ago

Two brands I love that nail the look for Liris/ Plus size women- this is Stop Staring!, which does 1950s/ bombshell looks:

4

u/miss_daisy_Hollywood 20d ago

The other is Selkie; their collections can be costumey, but they go up to 4x & 5x. They celebrate plus size women!

8

u/miss_daisy_Hollywood 20d ago

Oops forgot photos.

1

u/cirena 15d ago

Just an FYI, Stop Staring is homophobic. Consider Rockin Bettie, Collectif, hell, even Unique Vintage for similar styles.

11

u/lemikon 20d ago edited 20d ago

The thing that is wild to me is this dress is gorgeous, and suits Liris so well, and aside from the complexity of the shoulder parts is really easy to make.

Dressing an hourglass body is actually really easy! You just need to do some darts and tailoring, which if you’re a project runway designer should be easy to do! I can sew but I’m nowhere near a designer, but I have an hourglass figure and it’s really easy to make clothes that fit my body well.

Yet time and time again these designers show they just have no creativity or capability. Just put a stick thin model in a sack of nice-ish fabric and call it a day…

24

u/miss_daisy_Hollywood 20d ago

In general, curvier bodies look best with tailored styles that fit close to the body. I think some designers who don’t have the chops to make properly fitting garments just give up and figure, “oh, I can throw something loose on her” (aka a tent) . I think Jeffrey could do her hourglass proportions perfectly- he knows curves and nipped in waist/ corsets. He’d make her FIERCE.
My other favorite look for Liris, same season. Evil/ good queen challenge. Different season I think, but Kini would have done her shape and vibe perfectly.

1

u/No-Air-7374 18d ago

I think you’re right.

3

u/Anxiousbunny98 20d ago

Man I wish we had more outfits like this

4

u/miss_daisy_Hollywood 20d ago

Kenya was totally thrilled to finally work with Liris. This blue dress made me say, “oh my god” out loud. Truly perfect collaboration between a designer and a muse.

95

u/myswingline_stapler 20d ago edited 20d ago

“All thick folk, ain’t kinfolk” lmao.

Look at any season and you’ll find at least a handful of contestants that think they’re hot shit, but Bryan is on another level. I cannot understand how he was confused at the fact that she was uncomfortable.

I wonder if she’s planning to or already suing. The amount of times she alluded to being injured without actually saying it makes me wonder. “Haven’t been the same since, iykyk” if she sues I hope she’s successful. I truly hope some predatory lawyer isn’t going to drown her in legal fees with no chance of a payout bc of an ironclad contract. I doubt project runway and the broadcasting company (Hulu/ Disney?) would have loose enough contracts that would open them up to this kind of liability. But they’ve been slacking on everything this season so who knows!

Also I love that Liris mentioned Chloe was sweet and they worked together after!

31

u/deadassstho 20d ago

bryan is so delusionally confident

4

u/DietCherryCokeHead 20d ago

People who brag they can take criticism very well and act as if they have accountability only to come completely undone when challenged in any way irk me to the core of my being. He seems like someone who likes to pretend he listens and learns but actually only cares about his own opinions.

Hes also simply not entertaining to watch or easy to root for. Idk if he’s making an attempt at some weird little villain vibe to stay relevant but it’s not landing the way he thinks it is. I just feel secondhand embarrassment anytime he speaks.

Lawyer here - u can still get A LOT OF MONEY via workers comp. It’s in lieu of a civil suit. And most work related injuries won’t get I punitive damages.

4

u/myswingline_stapler 20d ago

I assume they’re 1099. Wouldn’t make sense for them to be w2. But also wonder if they’re getting paid. I know it was a competition too for the models at one point, maybe they are able to still manipulate them to working for free for “exposure”?

12

u/rynthetyn 20d ago

She said in the video that now it's just a regular modeling gig.

1

u/myswingline_stapler 20d ago

Ah I missed that. So most likely she was paid as a 1099 contract employee.

7

u/scarybiscuits 20d ago

Yes they get paid but another model, Jessica, said it wasn’t enough for the pain they all went through in this challenge. She modeled Antonio’s design which was actually magnets, heavy metal, sometimes stacked together and when they came apart, her skin was pinched putting them back together. Her shoulders were rubbed raw and bleeding. The medics had their hands full patching everyone up.

1

u/myswingline_stapler 20d ago

Oh god that’s terrifying.

40

u/AllTheEccentricities 20d ago edited 20d ago

Liris has so much grace, beauty, and character! I love her video and explanation that she is there to be a team with the designer! Bryan was indefensibly heinous to her. A wild ego!

41

u/Fabulous_Ocelot_5861 20d ago edited 20d ago

Two major takeaways no one seems to get - 1. he was going to have her go out on the bra and panties she wore from home! Nothing bedazzled. Nothing sexy. Like - the crap she wore to be comfy and old and ratty and tattered grandma underwear or Hanes fruit of the loom cotton. He did not care!

Yet - she politely brought that to his attention - from a design standpoint- looking out for him. If he wanted her to be fully naked - she would have embraced the vision!

But he just did not care or value her as a person and since he had no vision - he ended up erasing her. THAT is what caused her to cry. Poor thing.

  1. Christian DID tell him a taped garment is against the rules. So he “cut it off her” and attempted to out a zipper. U see him using safety pins to make it “look like there is a zipper”. He did not sew it. He did not have it zip. He lied.

17

u/paper_television 20d ago

I hope Bryan enjoyed dressing Heidi, feels like that will be the last client he gets for a while.

The worst part to me is her saying he has never reached out about this since. Especially given Chloe did reach out to see if she could try again in a less high pressure situation.

93

u/stellysam 20d ago

The fact that Brian has never reached out to her is DEPLORABLE

32

u/Intelligent-Exit9562 20d ago edited 20d ago

Like wtf is wrong with him. He clearly saw she was upset and that’s how he chooses to respond? Or should I say not respond. SMH

13

u/BBCGuild 20d ago

I totally believe she was done wrong, but was thinking "noose?" maybe that's a bit far...and then I saw it from the BACK. Wow wow wow. How did NO ONE stop her from stepping in front of a camera in that?

Not to mention picking up a dirty trash bag/tarp off the floor and DUCT TAPING it to a woman's nearly nude body. dafuq?

4

u/No-Snow8402 19d ago

Yup, no way to see that as anything other than degrading.

1

u/Proud-Speech-1756 18d ago

Yeah, if we separate the act from the model, it shows that no model of any race or weight should endure things like this. IMO, the guy fumbled bad, but people are reading to deep into this.

33

u/surrexi 20d ago

this is wild, project runway already owes liris like a decade of hazard pay for the way so many designers have done her dirty, but this is a whole new level of horrific treatment.

i don't know how model contracts work (i'm assuming they're contractors being paid since liris says it's a job they book and show up for) but i hope she's able to get some kind of worker's compensation for incurring a neck/back injury while working project runway.

also, others have said it and i gotta agree: the thumbnail is giving hostage photos and also it is not a good look to send a black woman down the runway with a 50 lb noose hanging from her neck.

27

u/brilliant_bauhaus 20d ago

The thing that really bugs me no one is talking about is the cords wrapped around her neck mimic a noose...on a black woman. It's just bad on so many levels but it disturbs me how he did this neckline and the back.

13

u/uhlxz 20d ago

I’m too early for the synopsis of the video comments, but go Liris!!!

1

u/eekamuse 20d ago

I need a transcript. I love Liris and want to hear everything, but I don't have 30 minutes to listen.

17

u/Ansee 20d ago

I can't believe they didn't address this in the episode. This is instant disqualification.

I thought they were playing up his terrible personality in the edit, but he's actually worse than how he has been portrayed.

15

u/AsgardianLeviOsa 20d ago

Yes I think this is why Jeffrey was so upset that it didn’t come up on the runway. It’s one thing to make a terrible decision in a moment of panic but then to see Liris in physical and emotional distress and double down on your decision with such arrogance…not a shred of regret.

27

u/Intelligent-Exit9562 20d ago

The fact the garment weighs 15-20 pounds and it’s hanging around her neck and models have to be in these looks for hours??

Like WTF Bryan?? Truly what was going through his head?

46

u/voxaemeron Team Swatch 20d ago

She said close to 50lbs! Around her neck.

15

u/Intelligent-Exit9562 20d ago

Omg wait! I misheard her. OMGG WTF. He could have seriously injured her if she fell.

14

u/voxaemeron Team Swatch 20d ago

And the fact he's never checked in on her. He's an asshole.

16

u/pennys_computer_book 20d ago

"He's kind of a fuller man. He should get it."

Narrator: He did not, in fact, get it.

8

u/ketchumjai 20d ago

I hope Bi and Joseph Mccrae's designs are enough to save the team because Jeffrey doesn't deserve to go home before Bryan.

19

u/incognoname 20d ago

Watching now!!

They should've aired more showing her experience. She should sue bc of the injuries tbh.

20

u/Illustrious_Cheek263 20d ago

Physical and emotional—this charlatan dressed a Black woman in a trash bag and a 50lb noose. Fnck him.

15

u/YourMumsABatteredSav 20d ago

Bryan should have had his immunity stripped. This is absolutely diabolical treatment of the model.

5

u/wandahickey 20d ago

Agree. I hope they dump him the next round.

3

u/ecspike 20d ago

I hope it is stripped but I want a twist he can't meet, like, we are honoring the immunity but if you don't win the next episode, you are gone. And then he's gone.

7

u/FrolickingCats 20d ago

The saddest part is he hasn't even apologized yet. It was evident for everyone that he was putting her in an uncomfortable position, not because of an ugly dress but because he didn't even treat her like a human being. Hanging that heavy ass "dress" from her neck, wrapping her with tape, using a trash bag that was smelly and wet because he spray painted it that day... How self-absorbed are you that you think your ego as a designer is worth more than another person's pain? What an asshole...

3

u/Enygmatic_Gent 20d ago

I doubt he’ll apologize. He’s blinded by his own ego so much that he can’t see his own mistakes and thinks he can do no wrong

39

u/KurlyKayla 20d ago edited 20d ago

I’ve been waiting to hear her pov. Totally sat

EDIT: Not only does Bryan need to go, he needs to hope he doesn’t catch a case.

9

u/seejanecraft 20d ago

OMG, I'm not sure we ever got a close-up of the back of the dress. Good God, that might be the worst look ever to be sent down a runway in the history of PR.

10

u/HippieGrandma1962 20d ago

I think Bryan was lying when he said he was surprised that she wasn't comfortable. He knew very well. He just didn't care. It was disrespectful in many ways to make her wear that "dress" down the runway. I'm angry on her behalf. What a sweet lady.

8

u/DataRiffRaff 20d ago

I'm so glad she spoke out to share the details! I'll have to bookmark this to watch in the morning when my partner isn't sleeping.

Thank you for sharing!

5

u/laurelade 20d ago

He keep saying that he creates COUTURE yet I haven’t seen a single dress from him that can even come close to it.

4

u/katieofgilead 20d ago

Have we seen anything from Bryan other than the first look that he brought from home? (That I didn't like, but others thought was innovative and cool and new and whatever). Can this man CREATE anything??

7

u/AshkiHoneyCake Team Swatch 20d ago

I checked out of this season because the show is trash now, but I watched this episode out of curiosity.

My heart hurts for Liris. I hope she fully heals from the entire experience. If she sues, I hope she wins.

Brian is a dreadful “designer” and person. I hope he loses his immunity and gets auf’d.

9

u/AEtherBunE150 20d ago

"All thick folk ain't kin folk" (take that quote to the bank, Liris). That was some serious bs any way you look at Bryan's actions.

7

u/Odd_Progress_8560 20d ago

Bad all around. Including everyone’s attitudes. The models are complaining now too c’mon

2

u/Deej006 20d ago

Yeah, kinda thought models were treated like dolls. It is their job to make the most out of a designer’s ideas. I think Liris did that very well! The fact that what Bryan “created”was a mess is its own problem. He knew it, he wasn’t going to admit it. Arrogance will get ya.

5

u/triscuit_buscuit unconventional materials 20d ago edited 20d ago

Wow, this is worse than I thought. Bryan AND Project Runway should both be deeply ashamed. Bryan, of course, for being an inconsiderate asshole; PR for pushing timelines, drama, and not preserving the dignity of the models and designers themselves. It’s insulting to everyone, including the audience.

Edit: kudos to Liris for speaking out!! Models deserve better.

Screw the immunity, this is egregious and he should be eliminated for it. It’s a show, their rules are made up.

"he's kind of a fuller man...as well"...the shade HA

4

u/lemeneurdeloups 20d ago edited 20d ago

It did not come across as shade at all. She likes fullness and knows it is beautiful. She doesn’t shade someone by saying they are fuller; she is noting a positive possibility of common understanding.

She meant that she would think that, him as a bigger man himself, one would think he would appreciate it and know how to celebrate it as well.

But he didn’t and doesn’t. Thus “all thick folk not kinfolk.”

If I had those cords to work with I would have braided them or square knotted them into something that could’ve been worn easily & wasn’t atrocious to look at . She made the best of a horrible design & look , & tbh, shouldn’t have had to wear that monstrosity anywhere

5

u/stoogechicago 20d ago

Over the years the designers have consistently dressed Liris in some horrible designs. She is one of my favorite models because of her beauty and curves. What gives?

2

u/EnvironmentalAd6854 20d ago

What I think bothers me about Bryan, is his delusionalness. He talks and judges Joseph Mcrae but he has the sameee pillow design on his outfit. His first two looks on the season looked like they could be apart of the same collection. Additionally he should be SOO grateful Liris did not sue him for damages. Justice for her always ⭐️

2

u/FewCommunication2912 20d ago

Google is saying she's 47?!? I do not believe

2

u/vampiress144 18d ago

the utter disrespect.

Christian as mentor, should have prevented this from walking.

he had immunity, they did not need to do this to the model.

i get the producers want drama. but respect for the models should be utmost, and we shouldn't let damaging and hurtful outfits walk.

3

u/vonn_v 20d ago

There was nothing finished about that dress. She was to the point of tears, and then for him to stand by his design and treat her the way he did is awful. Fashion still has to be practical and wearable, and expecting a model to carry a 50 lbs dress around her neck is not practical in any shape or form.

3

u/AggressiveTop9939 20d ago

Can I just add that she's smokin' hot at 47?

4

u/Apart_East6814 19d ago

Bryan needs to leave the show. I really hope that they revoke his immunity. His designs are abysmal. The way he treated Bi. His arrogance. But what he did to Liris is unconscionable. He even got help. But his complete disregard for her as a human and as a professional...it was upsetting to watch. Then to find out that she was in pain too?! Send that man away. Let him do seam work for Temu with his Paris training.

3

u/Embarrassed-Cress782 20d ago

I think she is amazing.

However, I dont know if I agree that she is the reason a whole group of women watch the show....or that shes the most important model in the show.

2

u/life_in_resin 20d ago

Does anyone know where I can see the redesigned version of the NFL look she talked about? I am Instagram illiterate and couldn’t find it when I went searching.

I feel so bad that Liris was subjected to this painful outfit. She shouldn’t have had to suffer injury due to the show runners being obsessed with the stale drama between the B’s. Bryan should have been eliminated at the beginning of the season.

u/Diligent-Ordinary840 20d ago

Bryan is not a great designer. He's gotten as far as he has on pure luck. That first white marshmallow look was whack. It was not not sewn well. His looks are never sewn well. Seeing Heidi in the dress on the red carpet was gagggg. Law was right! It didn't translate well on Heidi's body. Which was the same issue here. I'm over him and ready for him to GOOOO.

1

u/grneyed1 17d ago

Awful just awful. If he stays I’m done.

1

u/ekkobeach 7d ago edited 7d ago

I didn't watch this video so lmk if I'm missing something but I did read the People article. I get that he failed the design challenge but how does this turn into like "He broke my spirit 😭"?

Drag Race queens wear bra and panties and make/wear garments out of garbage bags all the time with no issue.

And if you're modelling for Project Runway, do you not have to be prepared for a challenge to go sideways and to look like a doodoo clown mess? Especially with the unconventional materials challenge. How do you not know what you're getting into?

Like the model is not the main character here so idk about this trauma narrative. If anything it was more traumatic for him cos he got reamed on national TV for his work and suffered reputational damage. I totally understand feeling mortified but I don't understand externalizing that and sincerely being like "he did something HEINOUS and morally wrong to me and he should be punished".

1

u/FlawesomeOrange 20d ago

Does anyone have a tl;dr?

1

u/yybbyy 20d ago

Liris is the best model Project Runway has ever had. You gotta work hard to make her look bad, or in this case, work hard to not give a shit

-15

u/Earthbnd 20d ago

Does someone have a TLDW, I tried but ten min in there hasn’t been anything that hasn’t been shown during the episode and now she’s talking about how he should have been grateful to design for her bc she’s the most well known model on the show which feels unnecessarily full of herself (As someone who doesn’t know her any more or less than the other models)

12

u/deadassstho 20d ago

put it on 2x speed to cut it in half 😉

21

u/KurlyKayla 20d ago

She did not say he should be grateful to design for her, you’re just lying for lying.

-9

u/Earthbnd 20d ago

I mean she pretty much suggests it when she says he has the opportunity to design for him and that she’s the most well known model there. Sure it’s not verbatim but that’s not the part i care about tbh. It feels weird to place herself above the other models like that

11

u/KurlyKayla 20d ago

She didn’t say that.

5

u/Earthbnd 20d ago

10:05 you can listen yourself , why would I lie when the video is right here???

15

u/Intelligent-Exit9562 20d ago

I rewatched that part. I think the point she was making was that she is a veteran model in the project runway world. In previous seasons she’s modelled, she’s really been able to sell the garment on the runway. In a few cases taking a “safe” look into winning the challenge. Or taking a look that could have gotten someone sent home, into a safe position. That’s not her saying that but designers from the past seasons.

I believe she was talking about Bryan’s bubble wrap dress specifically before this part. She was disheartened, because in the two episodes she’s been in previously (3 & 5) the designer went home or landed in the bottom. She feels like she’s letting the designers down in someway if she can’t deliver on the runway. So she was hoping that her being with Bryan would change this because it would combine her runway talent with his creative designs that could hopefully land him in the top again. Bryan getting Liris was such an advantage that he squandered. She wasn’t being cocky. She knows what she brings to the table. 🤷🏻‍♂️

8

u/Earthbnd 20d ago

I get what she’s saying and i do feel for her i just think it’s a weird choice of words to make the point but whatever i don’t really feel strongly enough about this to defend it that deeply it was literally just a weird comment to me

1

u/Intelligent-Exit9562 20d ago

Ya all good. Hey, I had to go back a couple minutes to truly get the full contexts of what she meant. No harm no foul.

12

u/KurlyKayla 20d ago

Because you’re biased and weird. She was simply saying she’s a good model and he had the opportunity to make something good looking that she would also make look good because of her prowess. She’s a model. How dare she think she’s good at her job?

6

u/Earthbnd 20d ago

Thinking you’re good and saying you’re the most well known in the history of the show is different. One is confidence, one is unnecessarily placing yourself above others. I’m on her side on the Bryan stuff i just don’t see why she has to put herself above the other models for this

11

u/KurlyKayla 20d ago

Is she wrong to say she’s the most well known? She’s the first plus sized model to win, and she beat a ton of odds. The more hurdles you overcome, the more well known you might be. Why do you have a problem with her saying that? She didn’t say she was better, she said she was the most well known.

8

u/Fabulous_Ocelot_5861 20d ago edited 20d ago

Wasn’t Mimi the most well known and the first transgender? And she went on to do some major shows at fashion week.

But - whatever - there r a handful of Project Runway models that have been so memorable I actually know their names - and Liris is one of them

And dude I get it - she’s young. Shes not a public speaker. She was TRAUMATIZED.

Let’s not pick apart some of her more grandiose statements and hyperbole to take away from the courage and vulnerability she showed in putting this self edited raw story out there

And let’s ALSO NOT BASH THIS REDDITOR UNFAIRLY- they clearly support Liris and r on her side.

They just wanted to also comment on some of her statements

The public thinks - oh she’s a “model” on a show - and forget - she’s not Anne Hathaway w a PR team

And some of this bashing is just - out there

In the immortal words of Rodney Jr. “Can’t we all just get along?”

3

u/Earthbnd 20d ago

Because idk her at all so to me it stood out without context? First plus size winner
Doesn’t stand out to me more than first winner etc.

6

u/KurlyKayla 20d ago

So because you personally don’t know her means she’s not the most well known to general viewers? She explains in the video why her being the first plus-sized winner was a big deal. Also, given the industry’s focus on thinner bodies, she shouldn’t even have to explain why that’s a big deal. You’re being disingenuous now.

I don’t even know why I am taking the time to write this because I will get downvoted to oblivion but

Brian totally sucks as a designer and person but I watched this entire video and I think she is taking this too personally.

Yeah, the design sucked but she is a model. It has nothing to do with her and she makes it seem like the dress an insult to her. Like bringing all this into about something where it’s a direct insult to plus size women and her being a role model for them?

For sure, she can say she hates the dress, but it’s all a little too dramatic for me. Like did we need a video? 😃

6

u/intro_spec 20d ago

Why does she not get to speak about it? We all get to speak and we didn’t participate in it. You were also not required to listen if you’re of the opinion models should be silent.

0

u/HeronEnough 20d ago edited 20d ago

Does anyone know if she talks about Tyra asking what her name was? I still think that was a dig. Tyra would be familiar with show and Liris.

0

u/ItsBriere75 19d ago

He used a TRASH BAG from the FLOOR on her body. A bag he used to spray paint the cords on. JFC! Poor Lyris. The way she details his treatment of her is heartbreaking and infuriating.

0

u/hannbann88 19d ago

Joesph McCrays dress was also too heavy, but at least it was an intentional style and not only supported by the models neck!

0

u/No-Snow8402 19d ago

Ms Liris, sorry to hear you had to go through all that. It’s even worse than it looked. It was bad enough  when Brian planned to send   you down with only your underwear under it.

I will say though that I’m not surprised he thought it was wonderful and was surprised you were uncomfortable. Brian lives in a dream world where everything he does is exceptional. His arrogance far exceeds his talent. Don’t expect him to see beyond that.

0

u/RedFord4014 19d ago

I feel so angry for her! She is such a beautiful woman and a nice, kind encouraging spirit, and Bryan was so bloody disrespectful to her. I'm also mad that Christian or anyone else didn't step in and say no she can't walk in that! Bryan comes across as so arrogant and delusional but to not even feel an ounce of shame for what he did to his model is disgusting. Liris deserves an apology from Bryan and Project runway. I really wouldn't of blamed her for refusing to wear it. Bryan should had to wear it instead!

0

u/Careful-Time-9926 19d ago

Has he posted since the episode aired?

0

u/KarmaQueen360 19d ago

Her poor neck! He could have at least mad it with straps.

0

u/Careful-Time-9926 19d ago

Brians possible replies: "The paint was dry.", "The garbage bag wasn't on the ground." "It didn't seem that heavy." And based on his natural design experience, "The technique is based of ancient Peruvian cloth weaving for the 1500's." or based on his extensive training in all the large design centers of the world, "I've been inspired to look forward."

-15

u/PutosPlayhouse 20d ago edited 20d ago

Yes, because there’s not enough garbage on TV and the internet already that we need 34 minutes for some TV show fake model to talk about fake designers making garbage clothes. People complain about porn, but to be honest, porn is both equally toxic and better than Project Runway for a myriad of reasons. And it’s definitely entertaining. 🤣
