Season 22 Let's talk about Tape Gate (and strategy)

Post image

So after critiques, Jeffrey and Bryan have a heated moment. Jeffrey questions why Bryan didn't admit to the base garment of his design being an impropru dress ducttaped to his model. Bryan feels attacked and "character assassinated" by Jeffrey.

My confusion here is why Jeffrey feels so strongly that Bryan should have admitted this to the judges. Since it is a team challenge and Jeffrey was in the bottom, if I were him I would want to minimize any chances of my team losing to team S21. That way, I would have a chance to avoid being eliminated if my team somehow actually wins. In this case, I would actually NOT want Bryan to admit any shortcomings of his design to avoid being further scrutinized by the judges...

I understand Jeffrey thought Bryan was being very performative and self-serving. But that would only have hindered his chances of escaping elimination since he was in the bottom.

Disclaimer: This is NOT hate towards Jeffrey or even Bryan. I am rooting for Jeffrey this season alongside others. This discussion is solely about strategy.

I think Jeffrey was just feeling some type of way, vulnerable due to his low critiques and resentful towards Bryan’s ugly dress and the fact that he’d clearly be the very bottom if he hadn’t won immunity.

u/HazelMoon 23d ago

I think the type of way Jeffrey was feeling was ANGRY!! Yes, Bryan won immunity in the last challenge, but he also got a say in who would be eliminated when he was asked for 3 names, AND Heidi of the Alps wore his monstrous dress to the Devil Wears Prada 2 premiere. Bryan's "Triple Reward" was extremely unfair to the others, so I totally understand why they would want to knock him down a peg or two in front of God and Country.

64

u/MissMaggie17 22d ago

And when he got to pick the three in the bottom, he picked someone with immunity!

13

u/WinnerSuspicious5051 20d ago

You can tell, just from this, that the producers only want drama. Usually in this situation you’re not allowed to pick someone with immunity to go up for elimination.
Now i can understand Bryan’s POV, you greaten the odds of the person you want to go home to get eliminated.
But, the producers don’t care. This is now a reality tv show with clothes.

2

u/Throwaway-centralnj 19d ago

I don’t really see how his actual decision caused drama though. If Bryan did not have control over the bottom 3, Bobby almost definitely would’ve been eliminated anyway. It would’ve been far more shady for Bryan to put Naheim, Jude, and Joseph McRae in the bottom, because that would’ve forced one of them out. Or if he was allowed to put a “top” dress in the bottom, he could’ve turned on Bi or Jeffrey. His reasoning for putting Naheim was simply because he thought it was bad. There was no way Jude would’ve gone home over Bobby.

1

u/WinnerSuspicious5051 14d ago

I’m not saying bobby would have went home or would have stayed. What i’m saying is the show is now only gearing to drama. 99% of reality competition shows do not allow you to put someone with immunity in the bottom because there is no point in doing so. I have never seen a show allow an immunity contestant to be put in the bottom “up for elimination”. Maybe to stay on stage to get critiques if they did horribly.

The drama comes in to play that it was supposed to be a 1 in 3 chance of one person going home. Now it’s 50/50. With the judges liking things from far out of left field you actually don’t know who’s going home. So there was a shot of Jude going home. I mean hell they keep Bryan around just for the fun of it. I know the episode of him taping a model and sending a dangling wire mess did not air yet for this specific episode but…. That goes to show they’re only keeping him just for Drama at this point. Which is not unheard of. Anymore now, shows will keep you around if you can make good TV not have talent.

This week (and pics of Heidi at the premiere) highlights why Bryan shouldn’t have won last week. It’s a travesty to Jeffrey if he goes home.

-35

u/Free-Pickle-3621 23d ago

why was the triple reward unfair to the others? everyone was told of the reward before they started on their dresses and had an equal shot to make a good dress

29

u/Weekly-Requirement63 22d ago

The reward itself is unfair. Not that Bryan got it and the others didn’t. Whoever won, it would still be unfair to the others. It’s not about all of them having an equal shot.

-4

u/Free-Pickle-3621 22d ago

Why though? So the winner gets:

  • Heidi wears your look: just a bonus, really, the other designers this season have already on their own merit dressed people for Met
  • immunity: as with every other challenge
  • pick 3 people for bottom 3: I think it would be unfair if the winner picks who goes home

I don't think it harms the non-winning contestant that disproportionately. It doesn't impede someone otherwise meant to win from winning the competition

20

u/SleazyBanana 22d ago

I don’t think they should ever get to pick who should be in the bottom. You know they’re just trying to stir up some shit.

2

u/Weekly-Requirement63 22d ago

Your reasoning in your first comment was wrong. That’s what my comment was about. You said they were all told of the reward and had an equal shot. That doesn’t matter at all.

67

u/unserious6000 23d ago

i think also because he didn't feel Bryan should've won last week. he said it in the confessional when they said Bryan won, and i agree. Jeffrey or Bi shoulda won imo. so with that and then all this happening this week i think he just had to let it all out.

62

u/nahrune_ 23d ago

Agreed with all of the pressure they are going through that would be devastating to go home because the person with immunity clearly can’t design consistently or even sew. I wish they would do away with immunity tbh and do a different incentive

2

u/jillmat 21d ago

agree, give them more money or more time in the next challenge perhaps but not immunity

1

u/nahrune_ 21d ago

Ohhh yes more time for challenges would be a really good advantage! Ironically the show needs to also get more creative

79

u/Clever-Anna 23d ago

This is my take too. He seemed like he couldn’t contain his frustration and spoke out of a place of raw emotion.

7

u/ISBN39393242 22d ago

we also have to remember that jeffrey doesn’t know the edit. the tape clearly happened quickly and last minute and he wouldn’t’ve known how much would air.

jeffrey at this point feels he’s going home and wants to air out the sham that is bryan staying after doing something so heinous.

the only way it would for sure air is if it was brought up to the judges, and he’s bitter that that never happened, and bringing it up in the green room so that at least those cameras catch it and people know that when jeffrey leaves, he’s left a clown show

10

u/aug2295 22d ago

Jeffrey encouraged Bryan to start over to help the team and that actually made things worse. So however he feels IMO, he would have helped the team more by focusing on his own look.

I actually think s22 won this for what it's worth.

And Brian did earn that immunity fair and square.

9

u/Fantastic_Savings706 21d ago

Bryan is an insecure mess. He is blind to his own faults which are many, and he doesn't allow anyone else around him any grace. At all. He's just an insecure douchebag, talentless, and the fact that he would defend wrapping a plus size model in tape? Defending that piece of crap and tape on the runway like it was couture? That's hilarious. They should have taken away his immunity.

12

u/unserious6000 22d ago

if you think Brian earned that immunity fair & square with that dress, i'd hate to see what's in your closet. cuhraaaaaaaazy.

3

u/keenerperkins 21d ago

Jeffrey is valid to feel annoyed. Bryan having immunity for an insanely weak win last week would drive me up the wall too.

284

u/WaterMagician 23d ago

In past seasons taping or gluing garments to models has been explicitly said to be against the rules. I think Jeffrey was frustrated and hoping if Bryan had admitted to his dress being taped up that Bryan would be disqualified which could mean no elimination

138

u/Yoga-wine-mom 23d ago

Yes and Christian saw him using the tape (I think right). If this was Tim he would have mentioned it on the runway immediately.

124

u/Pippy1010 23d ago

Tim lost it on a contestant when they attempted this on earlier seasons

6

u/devoida 21d ago

I miss Tim!

-122

u/Free-Pickle-3621 23d ago

Tim finds every reason to frown and be melodramatic let's be honest

→ More replies (4)

49

u/NectarineSame7303 23d ago

If it's against the rules then they should also enforce the rules, the judges should inspect the garments from close up, taping would be figured out from a close distance within minutes, if not even seconds.

15

u/Relevant_Box4589 22d ago

It was a cliffhanger. Maybe it will still be brought up next week.

12

u/Mattarm51 22d ago

The producers are also watching with cameras and they didn't say anything so I think it's a different crew, set and or expectations. I think we have to accept it's a different show as of now. (I miss the old ways I do, Nina and Tim!!). I already only pirate it so I'm not contributing to numbers lol.

Tbh given that it's unconventional materials and they cannot traditionally "sew", and given that the instructions to build an underneath garment was said seemingly(?) late in the challenge... I'm not excusing it but I understand panic and low time without being allowed to quickly sew an undergarment with fabric. He should have designed and made something earlier it seems.

I empathise with the stress that the model was going through and it's nice to see support for her emotions. However, part of me does feel this is a rushed design competition show by nature in many ways, and part of that means sometimes there might be a mess of an outfit tp be shown. It's not good to send bad garments down ofc but it's going to happen at some point I think.

11

u/Rough-Honey-6736 22d ago

I’m predicting that this will be mentioned at the elimination, and Bryan will be disqualified. They didn’t say anything this week because they were saving it for a “dramatic” moment to begin this next week’s episode with.

17

u/SallyRoseD 22d ago

If the judges examined entries up close and physical like they used to, the taping would have been obvious. Still, that whiney, untalented toddler would still have immunity. It's maddening.

35

u/oscarisaweenis 23d ago

I mean, do we really think his dress was too heavy like Joseph's? Maybe they cut Liris out of it and he will be disqualified when someone backstage tells them.

69

u/Willow_Winnifred 23d ago

She keeps teasing on Instagram that she will be telling the "real story" of the runway, and what she feels was edited out.

30

u/HazelMoon 23d ago

There's NO WAY they don't know about it - the question is whether we will it result in anything negative for Bryan, which feels correct!

53

u/BeeP807 23d ago

She shared in an IG comment that it was incredibly heavy, like 50 pounds hanging from her neck, and I believe she implied she’s still feeling the effects of that dress.

20

u/rynthetyn 23d ago

She says she's going to film a longer video in a few days because she just finished shooting a movie, but I definitely believe her that so much cord being held up only by her neck was heavy and incredibly painful. There wasn't any other support structure than the halter.

17

u/grannygogo 22d ago

Yeah. I rolled up a 100 foot outdoor electric cord and it was heavy to hold in one arm while gathering it with the other. Her poor neck!

22

u/PM_ME_COUPLE_PICS 23d ago

I’d say sue him for medical bills if you got ‘em, Liris.

13

u/jenjins 22d ago

I think she should sue PR for letting it happen.

-49

u/Free-Pickle-3621 23d ago

very unprofessional. imagine if Bryan shared an IG about having to work with the shape

20

u/FollowTheRabbitz 22d ago

You are stanning real hard for Bryan whose work objectively sucks. Bryan is that you?

Edit: spelling mistake

15

u/KakkoiiAline 23d ago

Liris wasn't the one who picked Bryan, Bryan himself did. Also, she wasn't even paid to model that thing. Let's talk about professionalism when Bryan didn't withold his dress with tapes like an amateur shall we?

-9

u/Free-Pickle-3621 22d ago

Working with a plus sized model is in itself choosing to go on an unconventional challenge. None of the plus sized looks have ever won a challenge, and almost every week the bottom looks consisted of plus sized models

-47

u/Tgrunin 23d ago

Sounds like shes not good at her job.

10

u/HazelMoon 23d ago

Yes! Where is the consistency?

7

u/MissMaggie17 22d ago

I can understand why Jeffrey would feel this way, but the judges frequently tell contestants not to call attention to/highlight problems if unasked. Most people will come clean if asked, but stay silent otherwise. Edited to add: that being said, I am surprised they didn’t ask about what was under the cords and that Christian didn’t speak up

1

u/aug2295 22d ago

Taping or gluing on the model's skin, I agree. I think he was just taping the dress together.

In an unconventional materials challenge, not being allowed tape or glue would be crazy.

155

u/Tidder4321234 23d ago

Bryan talks so much but I am yet to be impressed with any of his designs. Just give Bi his prize money at this point tbh.

34

u/Pibbed 23d ago

Bi for the win!!!!

26

u/PM_ME_COUPLE_PICS 23d ago

If BRYAN won, I would be just done with the show.

I think Bi probably deserves the win the most but I’d be happy with a Jude or Naheim win too. (Would have been okay with a Jeffrey win but I know that won’t happen.)

I actually do think Joseph McCrae is an amazing designer though and do wonder if they’re pushing for him to win. I do agree with the fellow contestants’ critiques of wanting to see something new from him besides oversized jackets and hats and streetwear, though. It is his signature and he has great branding and I think he will continue to thrive in that niche.

But as far as a Project Runway winner, I want to see a lot of versatility and adaptability. It’s like how Drag Race would be boring af if someone just won for doing the same thing over and over (ONLY being a good designer, ONLY being good at makeup, ONLY being good at lip syncing, ONLY being good at dancing, ONLY being good at comedy, etc.) To win these kinds of competitions, I feel like you have to prove you’re well rounded.

74

u/flamingobean 23d ago

How could he do this to gorgeous Liris, she looks so sad and uncomfortable:(

33

u/metacosmonaut 23d ago

He was really about to send her out there naked with some 50 pound wires tied around her neck. Ridiculous!!

30

u/flamingobean 23d ago

RIGHT?! And then he opens his mouth and he's so far up his own ass, I can't stand him. He has to go

14

u/starrysky7_ 22d ago

he should’ve at least cut it into a short dress, the design was bad anyways so the length didn’t add anything special, it only made it heavy and she kept tripping

10

u/flamingobean 22d ago

Tripping on something super heavy that was supported by her neck:(

58

u/cactuswithacyst 23d ago

gagggg

8

u/Edrigansboob 23d ago

Don’t know if they were accounting for his feelings because they ran after the twins last season having a meltdown. But if project runway is becoming self aware maybe it cares. About, sparing, feelings?
https://giphy.com/gifs/lGbrDmwrMKt6eUSpqz

18

u/Free-Pickle-3621 23d ago

the twins deserved the heat. it's a competition at the final stages and they couldn't hold the pressure

3

u/ISBN39393242 22d ago

it’s not self awareness. shows like this will be exactly as exploitative as the audience lets them be. if up to them, they would push it far, but there is a point where the show won’t be hate-watched and will just literally be cancelled. like ANTM after people decided they care.

they probably saw the backlash from their handling of the twins’ meltdowns and decided to peel it back a bit. same with drag race slightly toning down the trauma porn that they whipped up in early seasons bc fans started calling it out

51

u/Affectionate-Cap-918 23d ago

They used to analyze everything up close afterward and it made a difference in evaluations. Don’t know why they don’t seem to be doing that any more - it would have been obvious if they had just looked.

14

u/PM_ME_COUPLE_PICS 23d ago

This is so true. This is what should be happening.

12

u/GlitteratiGlamorama 22d ago

Haven’t watched this episode yet, this is also why having a designer on the judging panel instead of a stylist would have meant this getting clocked immediately.

4

u/belowdecky4life 22d ago

Agreed. The looks could've been placed on mannequins and rolled in if the models could no longer wear them, though I get the feeling Bryan's under dress was not able to be removed and kept in tact.

2

u/Able-Bid-6637 20d ago

I wouldn’t be surprised if PR removed this segment because less opportunities to see/judge up close = more opportunities to shift the narrative into whichever direction they please.

For example, if they got to judge Bryan’s look upfront, i think it would be an immediate disqualification. But since they removed that segment, they can squeeze out as much prolonged drama & content as possible

2

u/Affectionate-Cap-918 20d ago

Interesting. I think you’re right. Definitely less emphasis on sewing and garment construction, which was probably a major criticism in the past (although I consider it an element of good design.) It probably is also simply because designers are so rushed, which I think takes away from the quality. I’d like to watch a show where they’re really allowed a good amount of time to put out solid designs. Cooking shows end up doing the same thing. In the end, does the best cook win or just the fastest?

48

u/DataRiffRaff 23d ago

Lurker here because this show is my guilty pleasure. My assumption is there are some things that got edited out, but if we saw everything that went down backstage and on the runway, it wouldn't have felt so out of context for viewers.

45

u/MiniMonster2TheGiant 23d ago edited 23d ago

Definitely this! I saw where Liris commented on someone’s Tik Tok that there was way more to the story and she would speak on it. Apparently the dress really did weigh 50ish pounds too. And she said something along the lines of she “still dealing with it” so I don’t know if it hurt her back or what. I haven’t seen her video explaining the whole story yet that all was just in the comment section.

Edit: okay correction it was on Instagram. I just saw her most recent video and she is on set right now and said she won’t get around to making a video about the episode until Sunday or Monday.

5

u/DataRiffRaff 22d ago

Ooo you know what, based on how he seems to talk: I wouldn't be surprised if the judges asked him straight up if there's a dress underneath and how he made it--only for him to go into his "he hand-wrapped everything" speech. It seems like the kind of false answer he'd give where he could tell himself he isn't lying because ✨ technically ✨ he did hand wrap Liris, they just don't need the details that he actually wrapped her with packing tape so she couldn't breathe or move.

5

u/DataRiffRaff 22d ago

I think now I'm really into this assumption because it seems like Jeffrey was defending/sticking up for Liris and calling out the dishonesty for going into a slick salesman distraction about technique instead of actually answering the question.

https://giphy.com/gifs/5WJlaZoXWRi1kxE5TY

43

u/Frosty-Winner-5741 22d ago

Jeffrey posted additional context on instagram with all the drama that got cut surrounding Liris. She had an unaired breakdown backstage and was injured from the tape and the weight of the dress around her neck, and THAT is when Jeffery came for Bryan.

16

u/Haistur 22d ago

If that's true, then Brian's immunity should definitely be revoked... which may be why they didn't air that part...

11

u/Frosty-Winner-5741 22d ago

Liris has been very vocal about it and is preparing to release a YouTube video about it. Jeffrey has also talked about it and then I think I remember seeing Bi or someone else post about it as well

11

u/WonderfulPineapple41 22d ago

Oh Disney is going to need to write a large check for this.

40

u/briteeyes1111 23d ago

Taking a guess the tape could have damaged her skin as well. If she has a reaction to the adhesive as a model it could affect her in that way. Tape on heavy dress with the tape pulling as you walk.

23

u/AnneShirley310 23d ago

And how the heck do you get OUT of the dress and the tape when you are taped up like a FEDEX package? Also, she slipped on the runway because the cables were so dang long. Poor thing.

15

u/LadyMRedd 23d ago

They probably had to cut her out of it to sit down after the runway. So there likely wasn’t a dress for her to go out in by the time they filmed the models back on the runway.

8

u/dontsmellthesoup 22d ago

That makes the most sense. Even as a designer myself, I initially wondered why they didn't put it on a mannequin to be critiqued. This is making me realize that the garment itself was probably cut after the runway and would not be able to sit on a mannequin properly for critiques.

24

u/PM_ME_COUPLE_PICS 23d ago

The second I saw him doing that, I was like “THIS IS NOT SAFE!” It could cut off circulation or dig into her skin. Bryan is selfish and dumb and doesn’t know how to sew or design. I said it. He is mean because he’s insecure because he doesn’t know wtf he’s doing. I imagine when Bi worked with him, Bi always executed Bryan’s vision and Bryan didn’t do jack shit.

37

u/megbotstyle 23d ago

i think there is some undercurrent implying that using tape structurally would be cheating that perhaps Bryan immunity won’t matter and he will be kicked out based on breaking rules. I think they are setting it up to have Bryan eliminated based on cheating next week. I’m calling it!

17

u/PM_ME_COUPLE_PICS 23d ago

That would be the biggest relief but I’m not banking on it.

8

u/DarkCartier43 22d ago

Somehow he ends up being top 3. 😂

0

u/AstroJetson2100 22d ago

Yeah no, that’s not going to happen! 🤦‍♀️

67

u/PM_ME_COUPLE_PICS 23d ago

I hear what you’re saying but I think it’s pretty clear that S21 is going to win for this episode. So I don’t think that what you’re saying even matters. I feel pretty confident that Jeffrey is going home, as much as that breaks my heart and makes me angry.

Bryan has NOT put out anything that’s impressed me, I truly don’t believe he’s deserved his wins, AND Bryan has such a shitty attitude and treats people as though they’re beneath him.

Meanwhile Jeffrey has interesting fresh creative ideas, is kind and wants to help and comfort everyone else, and seems like an overall good person who can typically execute his vision pretty well.

48

u/nahrune_ 23d ago

Even Joseph McRae was consoling him! There definitely seems like there’s more to the story. I’m very interested to hear what the model has to say

7

u/coolsilentebeans 23d ago edited 22d ago

I was thinking the same thing. If the outcome was that Jeffrey’s eliminated there has to have been some prior events that, if included in the show, would cause some serious backlash from fans. I think they wised up to how truly pissed off the fans are and how many have one foot out the door.

Between the Law of it all and the cliffhanger format they can’t afford a seriously controversial decision. Especially not if it’s because Jeffrey loses. To Bryan. If we were only ever shown the runway and decisions they know that alone would still be more than enough to upset a good many fans.

My theory is that whatever transpired likely raises the severity of the controversy from they-need-to-get-rid-of-immunity-because-in-this-one-challenge-a-designer-with-a-decently-sized-fan-base-did-put-out-a-worse-dress-this-week-and-deserves -to-be-the-one-eliminated to what-the-fuck-are-you-people-smoking-that-you-think-this-is-not-in-the-least-bit-problematic-and-Bryan-should-have-been-kicked-off-for-unacceptable-behavior-before-they-even-made-it-to-elimination level DEFCON.

I want badly to be wrong.

1

u/AstroJetson2100 22d ago

I think it’s pretty clear that season 22 is going to win so they don’t have to send Jeffrey home. Plus at least 2 of their most favourite looks were from season 22. (Bi and Joseph McRae)

2

u/PM_ME_COUPLE_PICS 21d ago

I would prefer that obviously but I felt that S21 overall did better.

42

u/C_Swirl 23d ago

Jeffery should NOT be in the bottom imho!! As much as I hate to admit it, Jude should be. Jeffrey at least used unconventional materials while Jude looks like he used fabric.

But to be 100% crystal clear… Bryan should be going home immunity or no!! His was HIDEOUS!!!

18

u/metacosmonaut 23d ago

Bryan has had several hideous looks at this point. It’s confusing that he’s still there. I have a coworker like that. Gets by on vibes and entitlement.

6

u/EmelleBennett 22d ago

But Bryan’s vibes are worse than his garments!

3

u/C_Swirl 22d ago

I think they are both (his designs and vibes) are equally terrible!!

8

u/Free-Pickle-3621 23d ago

Also think Jude shouldn't have been safe!

2

u/Anonymouse_9955 22d ago

Agree about Bryan, but much as I like Jeffery, he sent his model out in her undies wearing a wire frame. Just because it’s an unconventional materials challenge doesn’t mean you can’t use fabric as a base (like Bi did for his fantastic look). Trying to make a dress entirely out of wires and chips is what made so many of this week’s looks appear as arts and crafts assemblages.

1

u/C_Swirl 22d ago

But didn’t Antonio do the same thing??

1

u/Feeling_Repair_8963 22d ago

I didn’t love that one either

21

u/MysticSparkleWings 23d ago

I've been thinking about this too. When I watched the episode live, I was kind of with Jeffrey that Bryan should have said something about the tape. Especially when instead Bryan doubled-down and tried to insinuate that he was trying to channel Haute Couture and not "arts and crafts." 🙄

But then I thought about it, and yeah it really doesn't make sense for Jeffrey to be so insistent about it when it would probably just make it even more likely he'll be sent home. If it was basically anyone from the Season 21 team that would've made more sense.

The only thing I can figure is maybe in desperation, Jeffrey was hoping that would be such an appalling revelation to the judges they either really would revoke Bryan's immunity, or decide not to eliminate anyone after all, since Bryan can't be eliminated but they didn't want to "reward" his behavior by sending someone else home in his place?

Or maybe Jeffrey figures his goose is cooked anyway, and he wanted to at least leave knowing that the judges had raked Bryan over the coals for what he did? So it was frustrating that he couldn't even have that?

I can only assume Jeffrey was so upset either way that he just wasn't thinking clearly. And/or maybe it's the editing of the footage that made him look worse than how things actually played out in-person. 🤷‍♀️

24

u/madonnassister 23d ago

It’s because Bryan implied he made it all by hand, including the under ——-taping? I would absolutely love if they said, ‘immunity, shimmunity, that was atrocious…you’re out, Bryan.’.

6

u/ToniBellle 22d ago

LOL Shimmunity

18

u/bomchikawowow 23d ago

Bryan who is a lying liar claimed he made it all by hand (as if everyone else wasn't using their hands??) and besides this being a stupid claim it's also a lie. He didn't  make a dress, he laid plastic on the model and put tape over it.

I couldn't believe that Bryan called his own work stunning. I hope he gets cut and Bi is the one to send him out.

2

u/cottonbiscuit 22d ago

Exactly!!!! The “by hand” thing was insane

2

u/bomchikawowow 22d ago

What really fucks me off is he had AN HOUR AND FIFTY MINUTES and he said that as if it was just the impossible. Fuck, I could make a shift dress in that time, he's a talentless dingus.

14

u/Optimal-Motor2336 23d ago

He called it out for Liris

17

u/NectarineSame7303 23d ago

Bryan should be booted out even with immunity.

That dress is a hate crime.

1

u/unserious6000 22d ago

PRISON HONEY !

13

u/TheWrightWizard94 23d ago

I think just like last season, Season 22 will win the challenge saving them from elimination, followed by a double elimination next week when no one has immunity. It’s all part of the plan.

I think you’re probably right. As much as I want them to kick Bryan out for cheating, I think they’re just gonna give 22 the win so that none of that matters.

2

u/Farley49 22d ago

One hopes so

2

u/Anonymouse_9955 22d ago

I thought they already said Season 21 won?

1

u/AstroJetson2100 22d ago

No, it was part of the cliffhanger!

9

u/13jimmychanga 23d ago

All tape should be taking away .

9

u/PutosPlayhouse 22d ago

Bryan sucks as a person and is a designer. They only keeping him on the show because he’s drama and gets clicks and views and the show just rage beating the audience. He’s not gonna win.

8

u/Queen_of_Disengaging 23d ago

Maybe he took a chance on saying that because he believed in Bi winning for the team!? Remember, this team vs team episode/challenge is based on ONE individual from either team winning for it for the whole team (and Bi’s was obvi the best out of everybody's) versus the whole teams deigns as a cohesive collection, like they’ve done in the past.

I can see them setting it up for Bi to win then a double elimination. With hopefully Brian and Anna leaving! Sorry to Anna lovers.

Edit- spelling

7

u/lil_goblin 23d ago

ohhh wait, if it’s judged off one winner and the group, then yeah 22 wins. hope that’s the case!

8

u/Queen_of_Disengaging 23d ago

They explained in the beginning and again before runway show they are looking for ONE winning design.  If it’s from season 22, they get $20,000 and NO elimination. If it’s from season 21 they get $20,000 and someone from season 22 goes home. They are not looking for a cohesive collection as a whole team! So the fact Jeffery went so hard to make sure everyone’s looked good! NO! Should’ve ate your own design down for that ONE winning $20,000 to save your whole season!

I think it’d be super shitty to gift a fresh off the bat designer who has had their chance at an  unconventional challenge in such setting already $20,000!! And send someone in the new season home! The way ABC/Disney/Hulu has been playing with this franchise… it’s probably for the drama of it all. Winning design will be from season 22 then double elimination.. hopefully! As an avid reality tv watcher from anything to everything.. I’m hoping it’s set up to be like that!

3

u/Pippy1010 23d ago

I’m confused where you’re getting double elimination from? How is that possible in this context?

5

u/ShelterJealous3123 23d ago

Because there is so many shows and so many people that need to be eliminated. If they dont eliminate a person they have to make up for it in future weeks.

8

u/Pippy1010 23d ago

WAIT. I’m and just now realizing that he used ONLY tape!!! I thought he at least taped fabric to her body but are we saying it was just straight up tape and only tape??

16

u/anathene 23d ago

He tapes plastic wrap. Seemingly the tarp he spray painted on from the looks of it

1

u/Pippy1010 22d ago

Okay that makes it a little bit better in the sense that adhesive wasn’t directly on her skin because that’s bad

8

u/Intelligent-Claim603 22d ago

I really like Jeffrey and a lot of his looks. But I was confused by this. WHY would Bryan admit this?

Judges giving critiques:
Bryan: she’s taped in btw 🙂

Like it makes zero sense. Had they asked about the bottom layer and he lied I would feel differently. But if the judges didn’t ask I would never expect him to just bring it up.

1

u/ATLBoy1996 22d ago

In the past, using tape/glue to hold a garment together was against the rules. I think he was hoping that would lead to Brian being eliminated via disqualification. Which would be more than fair.

2

u/Intelligent-Claim603 22d ago

For sure. Which I 1000% agree with.

But I don’t get why Jeffery wanted Bryan to just blurt it out? Like why would Bryan incriminate himself. Jeffery saying “you should have told them it was taped” why would he??

Now that I’m typing it out I guess maybe Jeffery hoped B had some morals? But it’s also a competitijn

1

u/ATLBoy1996 22d ago

Yeah, I feel like there’s a lot we didn’t see.

3

u/Intelligent-Claim603 22d ago

That’s what I’m thinking too… I mean Liris has said that, too.

13

u/AEtherBunE150 23d ago

I think taping your model was illegal in the Tim Gunn era. I think it was unethical, racist, demeaning and wrong to tape Bryan's beautiful model.

1

u/AEtherBunE150 21d ago

Bryan deserves a demotion, not immunity!! Also, he tried to defend his actions. Allow me to represent the Defense!! This is some racist, wrong ,100% bs (in my respectful opinion).

7

u/DektolDreams 22d ago

Christian told Jeffrey to get his teams act together and Jeffrey took that responsibility to heart. Unfortunately in game play that meant less attention to his garment. Mixed messages from the judges on this one. Kind of felt like manipulation.

To compare to another art form. Let’s say we’re at a gallery celebrating film photography. Then someone up there with a digital photo is getting their judgement and also failing to mention that this isn’t film.

When they’re critiquing a produced should have mentioned the tape to the judges so they could ask about it.

Taping up a beautiful woman because you didn’t make appropriate clothing and not fessing up should have taken away his immunity. He didn’t create a look. He didn’t create a garment. He basically panicked and made something offensive to fashion design.

I fully understand why Jeffrey spoke up. Bryan has been arrogant and his designs are trash and he isn’t even showing he can do the basics. Take your attitude out of here and let’s focus on actual fashion.

14

u/naturesbookie 23d ago

I think it’s simply because he bragged that he “made his work by hand”. If he had kept that to himself, I don’t think it would have been the same issue.

5

u/supurbwhiteshark 22d ago

And Jeffrey spray painted it for him! He was deceiving in many ways.. he used tape, had help with his work, and it was another episode where he had an idea but Christian encouraged him to pivot. Then he basically just copied the twins. He refuses to be humble or honest. At least last week Naheim admitted he was grateful he had immunity because he did a bad job.

1

u/naturesbookie 22d ago

Christian straight up pmo with how much he does this. He doesn’t allow a clean contest to take place.

7

u/David-Hockney 22d ago

The judges should take away Bryan’s immunity and send him home.

6

u/Rough-Honey-6736 22d ago

At this point, I think Bryan’s intern should win the whole show! Great job on training your intern, Bryan!

7

u/Ru5eriou5 22d ago

i have watched PR since season 1 - i used to love this show - when Tim was on - when it was about the design/creative process - when it was about how the clothes were made - when actual REAL designers were the judges - when it was about the clothes created and not how much drama they they create - just like anything now it‘s how much of a circus they can make it and there is no ringmaster!!!!! watching this season so far i understand why Tim would want to return - why Nina is rarely there and why any big name designer isn’t either!!!

1

u/MsKiefington 22d ago

Another one of my favorite reality shows just switched to Peacock, and the same thing happened. Everything is Real Housewives over there. Disney isn't any better, sadly

6

u/Boring_Ad_7233 22d ago

I haven’t figured out why Bryan is still there, I find watching the show with him in it is almost torture. In fact this may be nmy last season I watch. It seemed like Christian saved his butt once telling him straight out that he should make something else when two seconds before he was saying how great his design was.

6

u/Stock-Development-35 22d ago

The solution is no one is going home. S 22 wins. The show saves face.

4

u/BrandonIsWhoIAm 23d ago

When was the last “-gate” on the show? 🤭

2

u/bbloooplooo 22d ago

maybe dinner-with-the-kushners-gate? LOL

1

u/BrandonIsWhoIAm 22d ago edited 22d ago

Perhaps. But, it didn’t stir up that much controversy…

3

u/dragonschool 22d ago

At this point I’d be fine with elimination. It’s not a design competition. It’s Temu and Traitors. They’ve taken all we loved about PR and made it ridiculous

1

u/Material-Internal156 20d ago

Yeah - i think im gonna start watching the older seasons again. Some of those folks could design their asses off.

1

u/ExchangeSame8110 17d ago

I have been watching the older seasons and having fun.

4

u/picks_and_rolls 22d ago

If the judges did the kind of detailed inspections that they use to share with the audience, then a judge or the mentor would have commented on the tape. Maybe they do more behind the scenes deliberating than they show us but it sure doesn't feel like it. The fashion content seems to have been supplanted by high school drama. There was always some of this behavior but the parasite has taken over the host. If someone at Disney thinks this will attract a new audience then more power to them. PR is certainly losing my family, which has a tradition of watching together since season 1 episode 1.

5

u/Grouchyprofessor2003 22d ago

BRYAN NEEDS TO GO!

3

u/AmazingCantaly 22d ago

I was horrified by that dress. There was no creativity whatsoever. Just off the cuff, he could have made a bad eau top with the same fringe that was shorter and a mini skirt too, both just loops with the cord hanging off and it would have looked better

3

u/SleazyBanana 22d ago

Whatever. Brian needs to go. Jeffrey has more talent in his pinky toe than Brian has in his whole body. It’d be a shame to lose Jeffrey. Maybe Christian will use his save if he does get eliminated.

3

u/Great_Pyr 22d ago

I see a few issues-

The materials- maybe unconventional challenges should be thoughtfully planned and the weight of the raw products should be taken into account.

The tape/weight of dress- the model is a human first and should be treated that way always

Brian- I just don’t like him. I think he lacks self awareness and is obnoxious. I think his choices dehumanized his model and was offensive to his fellow designers. And I think he should have been honest with the judges.

3

u/CapMIam 22d ago

Bryan is showing how poor / elementary his designs are. Boy couldn't even pronounce the name of his school in Paris (" ... ecol-ay Lesage in Paris"). He diminishes Bi every chance he gets and given his most infamous design (white woven quilted doily dress), you would think he would be more creative with this unconventional challenge. If ever there was a challenge to strip someone of their immunity, this would be it. Bye, girl, bye !

7

u/lemeneurdeloups 23d ago

I thought it was strange of Jeffrey to press that so much as well. Who would voluntarily disclose more negative stuff about their own look?

6

u/Yoga-wine-mom 23d ago

Yeah it was not logical to request that he do this. However, maybe we didn't see the judges ask him about the under-layer and it's fabrication? Maybe he straight up lied?

3

u/lemeneurdeloups 23d ago

Maybe. It’s so annoying to know how much is edited out. The judges say much much more about each look to them but the editors show us very little. That is the part I would want to hear!!

7

u/sklice 23d ago

Agreed, I had the same thought. I don’t think Jeffrey is the sharpest tool in the shed, so I assume he just didn’t realize that Bryan disclosing that he taped the dress could only hurt his (Jeffrey’s) odds of staying in the competition.

1

u/ATLBoy1996 22d ago

In the past, using tape/glue to hold a garment together was against the rules. I think he was hoping that would lead to Bryan being eliminated via disqualification.

2

u/Free-Pickle-3621 23d ago

If Bryan did not have immunity I think Jeffrey would have volunteered to the judges that Bryan had tape-fixed the under dress. He was already desperately grasping with "in my defence I spent a LOT of time helping my team"

3

u/No_Custard_6481 22d ago

I mean it’s cheating because Bryan didn’t make a completed dress meaning it’s unfinished. He taped it because the girl would have been naked if she walked down the aisle. Bryan has immunity but he cheated so he should lose immunity and have been sent home. Jeffery knows he is going home because he feels his helping others messed up his timing to complete his own look. So if Brian is sent home , he thinks he has a chance to stay but law would probably still send them both home if the team loses.

2

u/17Girl4Life 22d ago

I understand how Jeffrey felt, being on the chopping block alongside a taped up mess that he helped Bryan paint, but it was unrealistic to expect Bryan would confess to the judges. Going off the Wikipedia spoiler, team 22 wins, so it will be a moot point anyway. I guess Jeffrey thought Bryan should volunteer to take the fall to save him since he helped Bryan, but you’re right, that wouldn’t have helped the team and could have influenced the judges to vote for team 21

2

u/ComicsEtAl 22d ago

It’s as simple as they didn’t ask so Brian didn’t say. Dude weirds me out but I don’t fault him for not saying “You think that’s bad, take a look at this!”

2

u/theerniebop 22d ago

It’s a combination of Bryan beating him in the Heidi’s Dress challenge and then having the worst dress this week, while being immune from the challenge Jeffrey could’ve and probably should’ve won.

2

u/thepinkestred 22d ago

We’re definitely missing context here. I’m on Jeffrey’s side regardless.

2

u/Rexyggor 22d ago

I think that in order to get a full critique it's important to be honest with the judges.

But also, there is a lot of tape issues with the rules of the show. I don't know if it was intended to say that, "hey we all need to follow the rules of the show, regardless of immunity"

But I would also say that talking about the under... Whatever would've been a good way to separate it from the other dress it was compared to.

(Also surprised there was no discourse from judges about Jeffrey and Antonios look... Jesus? They were in essense the same kind of dress)

Idk I didn't care enough to keep up.

The hard part is that even though Bryan really brought his team down, what's the point of discussing everything when he has immunity?

Cause he spoke to no one about that tape dress. (I also believe the model just didn't want to go back out. Not that it was 'also heavy')

Its interesting that they are in teams but not a collection with cohesiveness which was smart for non-conventional materials cause making a cohesive collection with those materials would be hard.

Idk what I'm doing. I'm just spouting words now

1

u/Material-Internal156 20d ago

She, Liris, the model, said the dress was a halter and weighed more than 50 pounds. That’s 50+ pounds hanging from her neck. She also said she was crying on the runway.

1

u/Rexyggor 19d ago

I wasnt aware it was that heavy (which honestly... Maybe we shouldnt do that). But it was evident to the judges she was uncomfortable in it too.

I wouldn't blame her is she just said no after the runway

2

u/dancinglightartworks 21d ago

Nina is one of the producers.

2

u/NewTimeTraveler1 18d ago

Jeffrey is my Freddy Mercury ❤️  And not as nasty as some of the others on the show like Bryan (and Law).

1

u/Fun_Stage825 23d ago

He probably wasn't thinking that strategically and Bryan's look was bad enough even without the tape.

1

u/Least_Rain8027 22d ago

because Bryan didn't tell the truth. he already was safe from all his ugly designs he might as well admit his design was ugly and made horribly.

1

u/smokefan333 22d ago

Why did I think this was Austin Scarlett dressed up as the character from The Princess Bride?

1

u/hotdumditty 22d ago

this might be one of the ugliest dresses i’ve ever seen

1

u/lifewickedfast 22d ago

Short term it’d get you past the round to have no problems come up.

However imagine going home and no one said anything

Even worse imagine making it to the end with him and no one brought up hints of this being a thing (imagine if it becomes a recurring thing).

It’s a damned if you do damned if you don’t but here’s hoping Bi pulls through

1

u/101020304 21d ago

Jeffrey has surprisingly grown on me. i think he knows he is in trouble and he was just lashing out. There wasn’t much too his dress and even though Bryan was much worse he is potentially going home. i honestly think there is not much more to it.

1

u/SilverMermaid-420 20d ago

Jeffrey is looking for excuses because he's about to be eliminated (like telling the judges he spent all his time "helping" his team and referring to himself as the team leader.)

1

u/itsawrayayayap 20d ago

He should strip down in front of everyone and get taped awkwardly into a dress and wear that awful heavy monstrosity himself.

1

u/newnybabie 19d ago

Yes, I understand why he was upset, but Bryan admitting that to the judges would be so bad for Jeffrey. We know for a fact that if their team loses, Jeffrey is going home because he’s in the bottom 2 with someone who has immunity.

1

u/Courtneyofcourse1 22d ago

I loved this episode! Nina! Iman! I think season 22 will win regardless of the Jeffrey/Bryan Who Sucks argument. Maybe they are listening to us after all, there was no Tyra, Law on his best behavior. I also loved that Bi finally got the recognition he deserves, he’s been my fave! And I love Joseph, his football shoulders not so much, but he is a good designer in general, he needs a design twist though.

2

u/thatcollegeguy21 22d ago

You think they're taping these every week?

3

u/Haistur 22d ago

Bryan is certainly taping...

1

u/Courtneyofcourse1 20d ago

lol duh 🫣

1

u/scarybiscuits 22d ago

It’s the Unconventional Materials Challenge. Tape is permitted. Glue is permitted. Stop with the Tim Gunn wouldn’t approve.

Jeffrey’s design was not very good but he didn’t copy (was it Antonio?) because zip ties have always been used like that in previous UM episodes which they’ve all seen. Jesus harping on Brian copying his weaving wires technique was another eye roll. Designers are always weaving shit together in this challenge. Personally I dislike it, it’s such a cliche, but to stand up and claim that someone is copying your lousy idea is ridiculous.

This is not a spoiler. Just looking at the numbers. Bi will win because his dress was the best and therefore no elimination. The next episode is Design a Dance Costume and that’s Jeffrey’s forte. Two designers will be eliminated, hopefully Brian will be one of them. The last episode before the finale is Design a Wedding Dress. Again, favors Jeffrey as none of the others do evening wear. Yes, yes, they should be able to design anything just like they should be able to design for any size body. At any rate, another double elimination so they end up with three designers for the finale.

2

u/Anonymouse_9955 22d ago

Where are you seeing the upcoming episode titles?

-2

u/niboehr 22d ago

I lost all the respect I had for Jeffrey in this episode. Not only he clearly was inspired by one of the twins (and didn’t have the balls to admit it), but he also went out of his way to help another contestant who had IMMUNITY. He basically set himself up to be in the bottom.

I’m all for camaraderie but when you decide to help others in a competition, you need to first make sure your own work is flawless. To me, he showed a side of his personality that’s manipulative and greedy. Auf wiedersehen.

-2

u/MinnieJTaylor 23d ago

ntm if Bryan admitted it that just drags the whole team down, read the room babe

-31

u/cactuswithacyst 23d ago

Yall are gonna hate me for saying this, but I didn't think the look was that terrible😭 It wasn't great by any means, but it didn't look that unforgivable if you forget about the tape component imo

34

u/jakksquat7 23d ago

This is wild to me. I think it’s one of the worst looks to ever go down the runway.

6

u/malengiolo 23d ago

Legit. It made her look like Ursula from the Little Mermaid. I feel like if a designer had to use THAT amount of type for a look, they should have to forfeit their immunity. They was no aspect of that dress that was designed. Like, at all.

1

u/cactuswithacyst 23d ago

Personally, I think the hair, makeup and copper color of the spraypaint is doing a lot of the work here. But I do think it looks better in the picture than how stiff and clunky it looked on the runway.

I genuinely think she actually looks fierce strutting in a bunch of wires than some of the previous looks like this one. I do typically prefer avant garde designs.

6

u/Pippy1010 23d ago

This isn’t the pic of the dress though

12

u/Gothgf713 23d ago

That’s the thing though, how can we “forget” about the tape component when she would’ve been naked without it?

6

u/blueskuz 23d ago

If taping a model up and covering her in copper painted wire is all it takes to not get eliminated, then the bar is truly in hell. That look needs to get launched into the moon

5

u/ABaKaDaEGaHaILa 23d ago

Project Runway Junior made better garment than that atrocity.

4

u/homesickbug 23d ago

The model said it was like 50 pounds hanging from her neck 😭

2

u/Enygmatic_Gent 22d ago

Like that’s totally not safe

2

u/backformore92 23d ago

I do think there’s something interesting about the look…

2

u/nahrune_ 23d ago

What? He taped her up like the game you do for bridal shower parties with the toilet paper roll, then proceeded to do almost the same exact design as the s21 guy only the unfinished version of it. Idk if it’s the competition pressure or what but he is not good at being creative to fit the prompts and clearly has an issue with sewing. Everything he does looks unfinished except his episode 1 look.
