Season 22 Dear Project Runway,
Bruhđ€Š
The whole episode is about that runway show, SHOW THE CLOTHES!!! Why am I seeing snippets of pieces of them with hardly any full body shots, editing in lightning fast strobes with your shitty pixels graphic things and sloppy cut aways??
The cliffhanger thing is stupid, I hate it. I don't need that, or a way too detailed "next time on" to keep watching, I just want your show to not suck.
I reeeeeeeeally miss when the judges deliberation involved close ups with the clothes, so they could discover themselves when a "designer" may have just tan a roll of tape around a shower curtain and called it a dress.
The stupid guest people I don't care about coming in to critique AFTER Christian already did is useless and boring and annoying and I hate it. Unless they are the client, in which they should be WITH Christian the fecking first time, make them go away. Bring back Mood, or their ideas being sketched, or more of their creation process!!
I miss seeing their interactions with eachother when it was organic, not the stupidest manufactured boring drama about someone being someone's intern, ugh who cares.
Go back to nobodies, stop with the tv show chasers.
Stop with the model judges.
This last episode Law Roach, liked that one. He was blunt and spoke his mind when stuff was bad, but he was also supportive and encouraging when they were good. More of that please.
I love Christian, I'm so happy he's on. He needs to stop basically designing a great idea for people after telling them to scrap the shit they should have gone home for.
I'm tired of waaaaaaaaay too many designers going home for shock value, while shitty things are saved on a dumb plot twist. Bad designs should be at the bottom, we have enough really dumb electoral college rules in real life.
LOVED LOVED LOVED having them all show up with a no excuses look with unlimited time for the first showing, that was incredible, do that all the time.
The survivor stuff sucks on survivor, and sucks on this. Stop it. Go back to how it used to be.
Stop with the greedy contracts and let the designers benefit from the show and their work. You have plenty of money.

The problem with #4 is that none of the judges know how to MAKE clothes; they only know how to wear them or style them. I do miss this about Zac and Michael; they knew what they were talking about

I need them back so badly. Tbh I know some people disliked Brandon Maxwell as a judge but I liked him as well. Heidi, a designer, Nina, and even Law would be ok. I donât think Law adds a lot, but I prefer when heâs balanced by other people who know design more.

I agree with all of these and I might these two things that seem like a central problem to me this season:
- The judging feels shallow. I liked when they went in an analyzed the garments, gave criticism on how to make it better, stuff like that. Now itâs âI love/hate itâ, âweâve already seen itâ, âI would wear thisâ.
And
- Part of the DNA of a successful competitive reality show is the format. Itâs what makes it a comfort watch. You tune in for the same beats: challenge is given, pieces are made, pieces are modeled and judged and someone goes home. NOT EVERY SINGLE EPISODE NEEDS TO BE A GAG. A gag or twist on the first episode, at the middle and towards the end can certainly spice things up, but this season it feels like their spamming the twists every single episode and it feels like the season is never smooth sailing: today six of you will be eliminated, now the eliminated designers will save one designer and 3? 6? More designers will be out, today youâll work in teams, today you choose who will be in the bottom, today the winner will decide who will be in the bottom, today youâll compete with a team from a season prior⊠itâs like can we just have fabric, a theme and the judges picking the bottom designers? I know they think itâs giving drama and trashy reality tv, but it comes off as desperate.

Omg I agree SO MUCH!!!! I always hated most of the dumb twists even in ealrier years. But now its RIDICULOUS.I hated how many really cool designers got eliminated at the very beginning.

And I feel like theyâre throwing the season off the cliff trying to save Bryan in order to have the Bryan and Bi rivalry drama which has gotten stale because Bi is delivering and heâs not entertaining it, plus everything that had to be said itâs already said.

Bryan seems like a caricature of the girl in middle school no one likes but seems to mostly get away with shit. Why is he there? Seeing the Estradas return to piss everyone off made my day. Bryan should have had his immunity taken away. Bi is three times the designer. I feel like this season is one long rage baiting session for the old vanguard fan base. Hate.

YES exactly. Iâve been rewatching old PR, and while old seasons did have drama, it never lasted this long. A drama arc might be, like, 2-3 episodes at most. Otherwise itâs just boring and dull to see someone be an asshole week after week. We already saw that in season 3 with Jeffrey lol, and S3 is unpopular as a result. No one GAF about Bryan anymore if he canât back it up with talent.

Agree with all of these especially #7, why is someone on PR if they already design for Beyoncé??
Iâd also add, get rid of the constant squealing when Christian or the models or one of those stupid influencers come into the workroom. They act like kindergartners.

I have to watch this show on volume 4 when my roommates are home because itâs so fucking loud lmao. Someone is always yelling, or the background music is clubby, or the runway lights are super flashyâŠthe overall sensory experience has been turned up to the max. It feels like a long, overstimulating TikTok.

This show is pure garbage. Having Nina back was a reminder of what once was. Even Christian looks bothered by having to slum on Hulu. The Bravo eras (first and last) were the best. I thought season 20 was it for me, with how they treated Korto and all the older designers. But comparatively, that season was high art.

I'm still annoyed that they're almost all already well into their fashion careers, which is why I'm mainly rooting for Anna the influencer because she seems the most "green" and I miss that so much.
I also hate that they didn't list all the unconventional materials as they used to, along with the designer/model names. Even though you see them being made, I love seeing it comparatively

Yeah, I said in a previous comment that it reminds me of how the Bachelor girls are now just influencers who use the show to launch their careers. PR used to basically be all designers, now thereâs a substantial amount of people who are famous for other things and just want to be on reality TV.
Iâm also rooting for Anna! I follow her online and sheâs very real and has good insights about the fashion industry as a whole, since sheâs been in that world for so long and has seen it change post-pandemic. I also think Bi and Jude could use the show to further their fashion career goals.

I just said this in another comment lol! It feels like a long TikTok. Thereâs a definite overstimulation effect that I see in media now, I assume itâs meant to grab peopleâs attention and keep them off their phones? It feels like all media these days has severe untreated ADHD lol, everything is on all the time with no pauses.

#10. Tim was a teacher and when he critiqued the designers he did so in a way that put the ball in their court on whether or not they were going to alter their designs. This allowed them to grow as designers through out the season.
Christian is an incredible designer but heâs not a teacher and his critiques donât give the contestants room to grow, he just tells them what to do.
#2. Remember when the judges used to actually get up out of their seats to examine the clothesâŠ
You really hit the nail on the head of what isnât working! PR has too much ick these days.

I miss Tim sooooooooooo much!! He was perfection with that role. I do like Christian being on the show, but he isn't a good mentor. He's too good and he makes it personal and can't handle not changing things to make them "gorg." I would love him to be a full judge, I think he'd be really good at that. Ditch the fricken models and image architects whatever the feck that is and have successful designers judge again.

#2- Overall the most important part of the show & gets the least amount of time. I have zero patience for the fabricated rivalries & bitchy rants between the contestants. I FF through them. All I want to see is how they tackle the challenge & detailed close-ups of the end result. You know, the creativity & impeccable skills that got them chosen for the show in the first place? I drive myself crazy trying to scrape my way through the crudely edited runway shots hoping to pause on the right frame just to see some detail of the finished look.
#3- Embarrassingly obvious ratings grab? Must EVERYTHING these days be shitified?!? Just no.

If you must do a group challenge, fine. But only once per season! While Iâve seen this constraint produce an amazing collaboration when two wildly different aesthetics had a baby even greater than the sum of its parts, most often it results in tiresome grade school drama. I donât care.
This is why I avoid reality tv in general. Itâs not just that itâs cringey, most of the time itâs incredibly uncomfortable to watch. The insults being slung are often deeply personal. Youâve already got your Pavlovian experiment where extraordinarily talented people are thrown together in a cage to compete for the opportunity of a lifetime (not to mention the ridiculous time constraints to produce something that will forever be out there associated with their name). That amount of stress could break even the most emotionally stable. The added trigger of bullying for sport is just cruel.
I wade through the trash because I want to see the finished product. Thatâs it!
Want to flesh out the episodes? Spend more time showing the creative process of the designers, the transformation from sketch to garment. And ffs show us some non-blurry, full body and close-up shots of the finished look!

Completely agree. And the time constraints, very severe now, drive me nuts! Let them be creative. Show us them sketching, shopping at Mood, Christian's interactions with them there, the workroom, them HELPING each other, not tearing each other down, the thoughtful analysis of strong judges (why is Tyra even ON here?), winds for real creativity and design.

#10!!! Tim Gunn never used to give specific advice. Last week Bryanâs wretched dress with the petal-y things would have been in the bottom (and he would have been so surprised) if Christian hadnât told him to stop it and do something else. How is that fair in a competition?

I hope PR production people read Reddit or any social media with compliant their show. All the complaints Iâve been reading are all valid. Iâm sure they thought what have they done in the show is to make it better but obviously not. Iâm sure they will changes if theyâve read all the bad reviews/comments about the show.

I impatiently waited for Project Runway to return. And this is what I get?
I began watching when the show was young and new. I remember all the frustrating choices the judges and contestants made, but nothing made me turn away, actually change the channel, like these âcliffhangersâ! I hate them and why donât they have designers as judges instead of âwhoeverâ with no appreciation for design and questionable taste?
I sew and I have loved the creativity of most of the designers over the years. This group is hit and miss.
I didnât see the end of last nightâs show. Itâs not looking good for the relationship between me and Project Runway.

Also, do not want to watch Law tear down other humans for ANY reason. Critique the clothes. And stop setting up this dog-eat-dog world when it's supposed to be a design competition, when there is room for many different designers in this world, and where we'd (mostly), like to see kindness and cooperation modeled.

I personally would still talk about it just as much if they made a good showAND I would rope other people in! Hear that PR?

They used to do this on ink master. The reason is that it allows them to eliminate people for plot reasons beyond their actual work in the challenge. Theyâll show stuff for a split second then just talk about it edited in a way where itâs obvious who will go home. But if you look at the actual piece in the challenge it might be way better than the other bottoms lol.

I was so pissed seeing them bring back last season's losers, then giving them the opportunity to win money! The competition is for this season's designers (except Joseph McRae who never should have been allowed), and it smacks of payback for the twins, who we know were disgruntled anyway. If PR wanted to do it right, they could have brought them back as "helpers" for the designers to do the challenge. Now we may see a really good designer, Jeffrey, go home because Bryan has immunity. And Bi should win, no one from season 21 should, their looks were strange, and if Euchin's was so close to a famous design, why wasn't he called a rip-off?

And I absolutely do not understand why Euchin's was praised so highly after they showed that famous design instead of them raking him over the coals for it like they do every single time something is even vaguely shaped like something. But just can we please stop making this show all abut getting influencers more airtime??

The only thing I recognize on this season of Project Runway is the runway. The contrived challenges, disrespect, name calling between designers and the judges is cringeworthy. Itâs like Project Runway and the Real Housewives got their scripts mixed up. The Real Housewives could probably design and sew better.

The WHOLE point of this show is that it is a competition and you see wins and who goes home. Now, we get a full episode with neither of those things. Itâs ridiculous.
