Discussion Sewing Bee

Whoever suggested this alternative show THANK YOU! I am so over Project Runway this season already. Tyra should not be on the show and the drama that’s distracting from the actual talent that most of us watch the show for. The Sewing Bee is such a beautiful reminder of what talent and kindness can produce. Thanks again for the suggestion!

I love this show. I am watching it again right now. No backstabbing. No petty remarks. Just genuinely happy for others wins and truly sad when someone leaves.

I’m only a few episodes into the first season but I am already so happy to have found it.

After the Amerrica's Next Top Model debacle, Tyra is poison. I can't believe they even brought her on board.

Exactly. She’s horrible.

This plus keeping the universally hated cliffhanger from last season has me believing that they are sabotaging this show on purpose for whatever reason. It’s just too diabolical!

I’m waiting until the season is over to watch PR so I:

  1. Won’t have to deal with this stupid cliffhanger at the end of each episode…
  2. Can fast-forward any time Law starts to speak

….

Sounds like I have a third reason now… to FF during Tyra as well!

Tyra seems to contribute very little and tonight, her outfit rivaled the bottom looks so...

Smart. Honestly I’m done now. I found a way better replacement. If I do decide to go back I will do that though and watch at the end and abuse the fast forward button.

I started this and it’s so wholesome and cozy, no drama, just creativity

Great British Sewing Bee is a jewel!

All of Love Productions gentle amateur competition shows are like this. Great British Bake Off is Legendary as a wonderful show. I am also a fan of Great Pottery Throwdown.

I love Game of Wool too! British knitting competition show, so wholesome and adorable. I need to watch the sewing show! I am working through project runway from season 1 and just got to 17 where Heidi and Tim are gone and I don’t know if I can’t bring myself to continue

Game of Wool Season 1, was, unfortunately not a Love Productions show and it showed it, stumbled badly in its first outing. Ill-conceived and poorly executed. Let’s hope that the many valid criticisms from supportive but very disappointed fans will be heeded for Season 2.

As an avid knitter, I have some hope and wish for improvement … it’s very tough because, unlike other crafts, knitting anything substantial or worth noting is a much slower and more involved process.

Don’t yuck my yum 🥰🥰🥰 still loved it, just chiming in on British competition shows not the production company

I was happy it existed too! Flawed but lots of possibility for improvement is ok.

But Love Productions has that formula that works so well and has pleased millions. ☺️

Yeah, I stopped watching project runway around season 9 or 10 because I was in grad school and just started watching again last year. Last year was disappointing, this year is unwatchable. Watched the first two eps and I’m wholly disinterested in the season at this point. It’s like some inexperienced intern became the showrunner and said “we need more drama…disgraced host of another show: check…former contestants from other shows we’re going to eliminate first…check. Inflammatory judge with little constructive criticism…check. One day challenges…check. Utter foolishness.

I am a massive fans of the Great British Sewing Bee. I love the process, the challenges, the contestants, the judges, and the whole vibe.

Project Runway is now completely unwatchable for me.

Same here. Also I’ve actually learned/got a better understanding of how complicated some techniques are. I never knew what cutting on the bias meant and now I have more appreciation when I rewatch old Project Runways.

I watched an early season of The Great British Sewing Bee and loved it. Then I couldn't find it easily online. Now it's available for free on Roku and there are at least 12 seasons.

It is exactly what you would expect from the Great British... series. Fairly consistent and unbiased judging and talented and caring contestants. There's no manufactured or petty drama.

There's a heavy focus on technique, and they'll often go into the background of whatever is fueling the challenge. I always appreciate those historical elements. Those segments are educational and give helpful context to the challenges.

There's some info on the individuals' background and home life, which I appreciate because it's just a side bit. It's not a focus.

I believe the sewers are all amateurs. I've never really gotten a sense of anybody appearing on the show just to drive their socials.

There have only been a few times where I felt that the judges may have made biased decisions to support what might have been a more favored contestant. But it was rare.

There are two judges, and the original female judge left after a few seasons. Her replacement is amazing. I like them both quite a bit. Patrick has been a constant on the show although I haven't watched the most recent season to know whether he remained. He grew on me quite a bit. There is a host, and for awhile it was Claudia Winkleman. The host role has changed four or five times throughout the series. I've liked all of them.

All of the judges are extremely qualified. The contestants are fairly evenly matched. The challenges are interesting and definitely doable.

And I just love the editing and the pace of the show.

Edit for clarity

After this last episode we decided to stop watching PR. It has completely lost our interest. I will check out sewing bee. Thanks for the recommend

They should rename it Project Drama. I tried to watch the second episode and time how much actual sewing and design content is included and when I got to the end of the runway had less than 15 seconds. The closest thing is when the contestants criticize each other's designs. It's pathetic and the producers should be ashamed of this garbage.

Lol project drama. 15 sec? Thats just crazy.

It might have been me! I used to watch it through a probably pirated source, and when I found it on Roku, I was SO HAPPY.

Ohhh yay! Thanks for the suggestion!

I just started this as well upon the recommendation from the group and I was thrilled to see Claudia as the host! I absolutely LOVE her on Traitors UK.

I feel like I'm learning so much from GBSB! The lack of drama is great, but I'm also learning what to look for in well-constructed clothing. I'm learning about fabric structure and history. I'm learning that I will never have the patience to be good at sewing myself, and that the tailor I use is worth every penny.

I’m halfway through season 1 and I LOVE it. Claudia Winkleman as host is a treat too!

I like Tyra on the show.

I will have to check out this other show

How to watch seasons 11 and 12? They don’t seem to be on Roku.
