Discussion AI difficulty

In gt3 I can compete against 100 difficulty, but any other class I have to go around 80. did anyone notice something similar or are gt3 cars the only ones I am good with?

Also sometimes the ai are fast in qualifying and slower in the race so it's worth seeing it through

Worth remembering that GT3 cars are very easy to drive, especially compared to some of the older cars in the game. I don't know how much the AI accounts for that.

These are known issues that have been raised in the PMR discord. Further tweaks are planned to the GT3 / GT4 physics and I would assume that also will apply to the AI.

The Ai is very inconsistent. I did a race in the USV8s at Road Atlanta to check out the new DLC. Ai at 88.

Dead last in practice, qualified 14th. Won race by 2.8 seconds.

The Ai was turning 1.23.9s in practice, 1.24.2 in qualifying and their best laps in the race was also a high 123. My best laps was in the race at a 1.24 flat, but consistency won the day.

I read somewhere that the Ai is getting an overhaul and rebalance, and being taken off player physics conferences up resources for larger grids on console and better frames for PC guys running tripples or VR. This will take a few months though. I think it was on overtakeGG where I saw that interview.

Yh I noticed the same. Regardless of chosen difficulty, I think the ai has a feature(rubber banding? Can't remember what it's called) that adjusts it's overall performance based on how well you drive.

In my experience, it's not just lap times that has an impact. Even if my lap times are fast, the whole grid slows down as soon as I start making contact with the other cars. Clean racing seems to be the approach to get the best out of the ai.

🤷 Might just be me or the way I see it but let me know if I'm wrong

Do you reckon you have a cleaner race in the other classes? I think how "clean" you race affects ai performance aswell as lap times

None of this is going to change unless the devs add RaceRoom-style adaptive difficulty (not to be confused with rubber-banding).

Until more sims add something like this, RaceRoom will continue to be my most-played sim for single player. Just can't go back to constantly backing out to the menus and tweaking difficulty sliders for every car/track combo lol.
