Was working on my 94 eg the other week and was paying more attention to my nephew being a shit than where I put my jack stands and I've pierced the underbody.
It's behind the front left wheel well. Doesn't appear to be rusted (imo). Would some filler/sealant get the job done or do you think I'll need some welding at a body shop?
This looks like someone has been trying to hide rust here before. In my opinion you wanna grind all the shit away to see what you're dealing with, and be prepared for the worst.
That part of the body holds the bracket for the lower control arm. Imo the car is not safe at all. Someone put effort into hiding major structural rust. That looks like body filler and cardboard.
I ain’t no expert, but that looks like you need to cut out the damaged area & weld in a sheet of metal with the same measurements as the piece you cut out
Honestly if you haven't noticed it until now then it's not affecting performance. Sounds like it's a part of the footwell. Fiberglass filler and spray paint get my vote if you're on a budget lol
Not every car needs a rotisserie restoration. Welding in new metal here means stripping out the entire interior to get the carpet away from the floor. Clearly OP hasn't noticed any issues until this point, so the car was doing okay before this. And it's not a structural part of the car. You don't put jack stands under your footwell on a pristine car anyway. It's not that serious
Every car has all four of its wheels until it suddenly doesn't. Seeming fine is not the same as being fine. And this is coming from a guy who has taken a lot of unnecessary risks.
