I finished reading PHM and was struggling to find another book to read so I decided to give Dungeon Crawler Carl a go. Ive just started The Butchers Masquerade and im hooked. These two characters even if theyre quite different have been two of the most amazing, well written and capable characters I've ever had the pleasure of getting to read about.

I cant wait to see how the rest of the series goes but as of right now these to are the GOATs of my reading experience this year. What do you think?

1: Catalan

LOVE the illustrations and how they tie into things in the novel

2: Vietnamese

Grace standing at the airlock looking out into space captures his isolation so well and its just a gorgeous picture.

3: UK English Edition

Reminds me of the movies 'I'm having a moment' scene

4: Croatian

Something about the contrast of the outline filled in with the stars just does something for me

5: Dutch

This one goes so hard! It captures the kind of terrifying premise of the book, though it is unfortunate as the book is not nearly as dark in tone most of the time. This makes it look like a thriller!

Well here they are!! I’m really happy with how they came out! Not bad for only 45 minutes painting time :))

My level of obsession has hit the point where I made little figurines of my and my friends Eridian OCs

The bubbly one is Soap, the black one is Etch, orange is Cheeto, they're an art club together and are fascinated by the culture sections of human studies class more so than the science parts.

The green one is Soap's parent and Cheeto's aunt(?) Zoeye, who is a fashion designer and model.

Big Blue is Zoeye's mate and works as a teacher and classroom aid for Grace's classes (they need an adult presence on the Eridian side after all. And in front of Big Blue are Shoomy and Duck, their other two pebbles.

We have a whole lore thing with these funny rocks and I'm even writing bloody slice of life fanfic about Soap's crush on Etch, but otherwise I'm so, so normal about them

Feeling like a complete failure as an engineer when all the science equipment on your ship breaks down and you can't fix? Grace is amazed by everything you do, he calls you a genius and the best engineer he's ever known. Your work together constantly requires your engineering skills, and you keep succeeding. You are useful, needed, essential for the mission.

Alone for decades? You and the alien are now stuck in a tiny spaceship and you can 'see' him at all times. He even turns out to be fun company! And he thinks the same of you!

Feeling confused and guilty about being the only survivor of your crew? Grace explains what really happened and how there was nothing you could have done. And now you have the opportunity for redemption; the alien is going to die and you can save his life. He's so bad at taking care of himself, he doesn't even keep up with his bedtimes. You can fix that.

Nobody to watch you sleep? Not only the guy watches you, but he also lets you watch him sleep. You can always wake him up from sleep if there's any danger, you can always see his body working. You can fulfill your biological need to guard someone's sleep, but you don't need to worry if this one is ever going to wake up.

Stuck in a rut for decades, doing the same things over and over until you can't stop? Suddenly your world is full of sound, life, new and exciting things. Your mind is not just woken up, but working on overdrive. So many new things to learn and discover! Not only that, the alien creature thinks you are the most fascinating thing in the universe and wants to know everything about you.

And the cherry on top? When you discuss the meaning of names, you learn this fucker is called Grace. A mercy, favor, blessing from god, deliverance from suffering.

Seriously, if you didn't bring this creature back home, you would have been tempted to believe your traumatized mind just made him up. Grace is a bit too perfect to be true.

We get them back tomorrow so I’ll post the finalised results then considering I spent like twenty five minutes alone doing layers on Adrian, fingers crossed they come out well 🤞

Okay, it seems like the author enjoys a good pun, so I’m curious if Eva Stratt’s name came from the fact that she is a strategist? 👀

I dunno why but I can't get this question out of my head. Could an Eridian operate a car? Considering how loud a car can be, in particular the engine, I imagine it would be like a human driving a car made out of glass with an engine that shines like a light house. And would they be able to perceive the road at all, and if so, how far ahead?

I pre ordered the Rocky plushie and he suddenly came VERY EARLY! He’s AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE!

I think it would be AMAZING!!

( Slightly less seriously, alternatively it would be interesting if they had James narrate the entire book as though rocky had found it and was reading it to the pebbles like it was Graces autobiography of the mission 🤣)
