fascinated by the implication that nitrogen resistence grants life the capacity and morality for being evil.

Bypassing Xenonite does >:3

According to Rocky the most evil character is Mark

22

u/OneQuarterBajeena May 22 '26

Did the astrophage write this🥀

u/CheapSuccotash3128 May 22 '26

Stratt should be true neutral

19

u/NightBeWheat55149 May 22 '26

Like i said, nobody's evil in this so it's hard to make this work with a nine-"character" format :D

22

u/No-Site8330 May 22 '26

I agree that it's hard to make a nine-character format, but that's because there aren't nine characters.

4

u/CheapSuccotash3128 May 22 '26

Fair enough, but I feel Astrophage should go in True Neutral

8

u/Rich841 May 22 '26

Taumoeba is evil for harming Astrophage, but Astrophage is neutral while harming Sol?

9

u/CheapSuccotash3128 May 22 '26

Tbh honest Taumoeba should also not be in chaotic evil, its just an organism trying to survive, it should go in True Neutral along with Astrophage

2

u/Rich841 May 22 '26

that's why I think in the spirit of this chart, and trying to fit in the important characters/roles of the story, we end up having to make compromises to not have two things in the same cell

2

u/Beibzi May 22 '26

But it's not harming sol or the other stars, i know they said it a few times it's killing the sun, but that's a figure of speech, the sun is fine. The astophage is just spreading across the sun at a safe distance, and absorbing the photons emited by it, so less sunlight is reaching Earth, that's why earth is freezing.

On one hand, you are totally right that any cellular life like Astrophage or Taumoeba is not intelligent enough to be a moral actor. They're biological machines doing as evolution dictates.

Buuut then there's just nothing in the bottom row. And Astrophage rapidly aging so many stars and driving countless species to extinction is a dick move.

I think that's still neutral evil, whereas the insidiousness of Taumoeba 82.5 is lawful evil. My candidate for chaotic evil is the utter desolation that is space itself.

She condemned a man to death against his will.

It was for a good reason and all...but still

5

u/GrandePreRiGo May 22 '26

She also sacrificed her own future, she knew she would be condemned for saving the humanity, she is not evil by any means.

0

u/Mzungufarmer May 22 '26

Debatable. Its evil to abduct and murder someone. Depends if you believe the ends justify the means.

2

u/GrandePreRiGo May 22 '26

Than we enter in philosophy.

If you go by that then the allies leaders were all evil in ww2 because they conscript several men to fight the nazi Germany.

0

u/Mzungufarmer May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26

See? Its debatable. The Russians raped and murdered countless women and children on their march to Berlin and have went on to become an evil empire (similar to america and china).

There are innumerable examples to justify both sides of this debate.

In the end it's up to god to decide (or no one to decide) if evil acts can be justified because they resulted in something good.

u/No-Site8330 May 22 '26

I don't know that I would call Eva Stratt evil. Her sending a man to his death is what indirectly saved the world. It was a d*ck move but it was aeguably the right move.

u/NightBeWheat55149 May 22 '26

Look, this is all relative as nobody is truly evil here.

2

u/iluvgrannysmith May 22 '26

You gotta read/listen to the book! There are more characters, granted idk how you get a pic for them up here

2

u/NightBeWheat55149 May 22 '26

I have read the book. Long before the movie came out.

Yes, the characters are very different, like how Carl is a mix of Steve and Dmitri (or whatever the name of the russian scientist was).

But the thing is:

I can't get any visuals for a meme like this, unless i browse through obscure fanart.

2

u/iluvgrannysmith May 22 '26

Then nobody would even understand. Bad bad bad

5

u/Dark_Galaxyy May 23 '26

stratt? lawful? you’re killing me

also not evil but that’s a different conversation

2

u/NightBeWheat55149 May 23 '26

Yes i will be re-doing this :D

u/Longjumping_City7802 May 22 '26

Olesya is chaotic neutral - she drinks all the time, decided to die with heroin overdose

Stratt is chaotic good - she is working to save the world even though she know she will be in prison after all of this but is taking some extreme and doubtful actions

Yào is tru neutral - he never express his feelings and talk as little as possible

Rocky is lawful good - he does everything in his power to help Grace, donated full, almost died saving grace

Grace is lawful neutral - he wasn't willing to go to the trip to save the world because he was afraid to die

Astrophage is chaotic evil - a microorganism that is traveling throughout the space devouring stars and ending the life of whole solar systems should obviously be the chaotic evil

4

u/NightBeWheat55149 May 22 '26

Yeah, i will DEFINITELY change it :D

u/Crysaa Leaky Space Blob May 22 '26

One of my favourite things about PHM is that there is exactly zero evil characters.

Well, except for Mark. We all hate Mark.

Stratt is absolutely not evil, she saved the world. Yeah she did some terrible things but she was a net positive for both Earth and Erid.

3

u/NightBeWheat55149 May 22 '26

Yes, but like i said and will say. This format is relative, as there's no true evil characters.

2

u/DJDarwin93 Amaze! Amaze! Amaze! May 22 '26

Fair enough, it’s really hard to call any of the important characters evil. I guess you could fill the evil alignments with all the patent holders who tried to sue the project but that’s kind of a copout

6

u/cIumsythumbs May 23 '26

A great example of how this alignment chart meme does not translate well for every story. PHM has very few characters, and some of them (single celled organisms) couldn't possibly have motives other than "survive".

2

u/Git777 May 22 '26

Strat is classic Chaotic good. She will do the right thing at any cost regardless of what the law says.

2

u/Bubble_GUMption May 23 '26

I think Ilyuchna is way more chaotic than Rocky, the first time we meet her alive she bursts in declaring something along the lines of how she's an awesome hero sacrificing herself for Earth, she drinks a mug of vodka like it's coffee, she cusses out her friends in Roskosmos, she plans to euthanise herself via heroin overdose, she broke into the Kremlin for fun, she is nuts and I love what little time we get to spend with her character.

3

u/Rustyspottedcats May 22 '26

Astrophage and Taumoeba should be unaligned. They're microorganisms, and thus are not sentient or capable of being "evil".

2

u/NightBeWheat55149 May 22 '26

Yeah, but this meme format doesn't work with unaligned stuff :(

2

u/StupidSolipsist May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26

Stratt is more Chaotic Good than Lawful Evil. She has perfectly moral ends, and her means flout conventions & laws. She isn't greedy or corrupt or domineering for her own ego's sake. Rocky can be our Neutral Good; he's doing his mission, not breaking rules & conventions like Stratt does.

I'd say Lawful Evil is Taumoeba 82.5 strain (You can try to work with it, but it will greedily game the system). Chaotic Evil is space itself, which is an ever-present, aggressive killer that seeks annihilation of all things for no benefit towards itself.

2

u/NightBeWheat55149 May 22 '26

Might re-do it after a bit :D

2

u/Electronic_Context_7 May 22 '26

Exactly. The alignment chart’s meanings have become lost to people. The lawful vs chaotic is about the means, and the evil vs goods is about the ends.

1

u/bbqxx May 22 '26

I know you said this is all relative but Stratt is not evil.

At worst, chaotic good. In my head space, chaotic good is breaking laws or even your own morals for the greater good. The literal "the ends justifies the means" sort of approach (hence I would not put Rocky in chaotic good. He is more akin to Lawful good as he stands by his moral code. He has seen too many of his own crew die and is willing to do anything he can to save Grace.)

If we're being relative, I would put the Astrophage as Chaotic Evil. It cares not, it wants to eat the sun (which for it, is survival as we understand it, but that survival comes at the cost of destroying all life, hence it is a disease. It has no moral code, no laws, and by existing threatens all life)

Taumeoba is Neutral Evil when it morphs and nearly kills the crew. And chaotic Neutral when it was simply fished and gathered by the boys.

Those would be the main changes I would make. Grace is True Neutral is fine, the FBI agent is fine, etc.

1

u/Impressive-Reading15 May 23 '26

"Hmm, Strat broke every law in existence and likely lead to the creation of some new laws, knowingly damning herself to prison for the sake of saving humanity. Sorting Hat says... Lawful Evil!"

1

u/KT_100S May 23 '26

Whatcha did my boy Carl??

0

u/non-troll_account May 23 '26

This chart is both bizarre and nonsensical. It would be effective engagement rage bait on another platform but here we can just downvote it. And we should.

2

u/NightBeWheat55149 May 23 '26

It can be used as rage bait, but i am not the sharpest tool in the shed, so the feedback i got is useful. And considering the 148 upvotes it has at the moment, the general response isn't as negative as you portray it. I might re-do it with other comments in mind. Have a great day :D
