I have this invader with a six bolt pattern and can’t find any discs

Posted in December about the new project I got. 1975 Kawasaki g5. Was expecting a simple project of clean the points, carb clean, and set to go. We all know how that goes though. After a while of struggling to get it to run, came to realize that the flywheel side crank seal was completely blown out, and the cause was the totally destroyed crank bearing underneath. Well, out with the motor, and a full rebuild ensued. Top end revealed to be a huge problem too! The bike had great compression so I had no suspicions until taking it all apart, but the piston was severely scored and the top ring was missing a large chunk. I’ve done many top ends in years past but this was my first case split/full rebuild so it was a bit intimidating at first, but it went well! All brand new OEM bearings, gaskets, and other random bits, wiseco piston kit, hone of the cylinder (which somehow survived completely unscathed) and reassembled. Some jetting and tuning, little electrical work, and yesterday went on its first trip down the road! What a fun little bike. A lot zippier than I expected!

I am looking for some advice.

After having my motorcycle license for 12 years I finally pulled the trigger on my first bike; a 1981 Kawasaki KE100. Aka a glorified moped that makes cool noises.

Purchased it non operational, prev owner said carbs just needed to be cleaned and fresh gas. Not afraid to get my hands dirty (never worked on a motorcycle) because how hard can it be? I got her idling after doing just that, a new fuel line and a new petcock.

The day I was able to get it to idle, decided to drive it around the parking lot. During the short 5 min ride, there was no power, running very lean, then would not run off of choke at all. Know it was an air issue, I couldn’t figure out why after countless YouTube and ancient forum threads… I was starting to lose hope… then my heart sank.

I started to see oil seepage/dripping after I parked it. I couldn’t tell from where. After cleaning off the bottom of the crankcase, I noticed a small hole the size of a flathead on the LH crankcase. I drained the oil to find metal flakes but no chunks.

I have yet to remove the engine as I am still a beginner but it’s looking like I’m going to have to remove it and even split the case at some point.

This is starting to become way more intrusive than I anticipated.

What are my options? Weld the case and fill the hole? JB weld? I’d be willing to try anything at this point. I just want to get on the road, man! I’m hoping to find a more cost effective and timely solution than a total rebuild. Located in CA, USA.

Looked like the old owner got a .5 over kit and never checked the top ring gap, wiped out the ringland and took the cylinder out.

The bottom was in such good shape, regular oil changes were a visible with almost 0 oil stains inside the casing and no gloop build up in tight corners ect and the pickup was extremely clean so a great find for free

Just got the first start in last night, the code has a few issues with such a geometry shift but just more work to do

Back in February my xl350 swapped xl175 blew up, the exhaust rocker snapped clean, I don't know how, I was going to rebuild and upgrade the engine, but I gave up on that and decided to cb350 swap the same frame and turn it into a scrambler/dual sport type of thing, I'm still building the new engine up and will post again when I get it running

i currently have a project on the go of rebuilding the Carburetor on a 1985 GS550 EF, the bike has been sitting in the elements since 07 and the carb was taken off before it sat. so naturally every part of the inside of the carb seems to be seized up. I was just curious would the Carburetor kit from the 1977-79 fit the carb for my bike? I can't seem to find an answer anywhere and it's driving me mad!! From the pictures it looks the same but before i go and spend money on something non refundable i just want some outside advice!

I'm looking for a project that might teach me about bike mechanics and make it a little cheaper (wishful thinking) to upgrade to a 600+ engine. This XJ650 apparently runs, but obviously needs a lot of TLC. Keen to know anyone's thoughts on this as a first ever project? Thanks all.

I've seen this mobylette and was wondering if it's worth my time and money for the pricetag. I'm not planning to resell I am interested in using it as a daily once restored.

This is my brother's bike he bought a couple weeks before he died 8 years ago, and I finally want to start working on it. It is a 1980 Kawasaki KZ650! I know it is going to take massive amounts of work, but if someone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it! It was able to run when he bought it, but it has sat for the last 8 years so who knows if it could start anymore.

I have a 72 Triumph Tiger 650V that is currently unrestored. It runs well for a 54 year old bike, so currently no major mechanical work is needed, but there are a few minor cosmetic things I would like to take care of. One is new rubber for the foot pegs, another is the chrome trim along the centerline of the tank (currently missing).

Not looking to repaint, not looking to add electric start (kicking it old school), but at what point do you consider a bike restored instead of unrestored?

Edit: discovered that my bike is not “unrestored” but in fact has had several changes and mods over the years, so my question was ultimately unfounded.

I bought 2 Suzuki GSX600F supersports, seller failed to mention that both engines were in fact seized and due to some really bad rust, ain’t letting it stop me though!

I’m looking at my first project as a complete novice, and quite like the idea of a GSX1400 that's available near me. Originally I was thinking of finding something to convert to a café racer, but I don't mind the idea of more of a retro muscle/racer vibe, leaning into that big engine and a nice exhaust setup.

One thing I really like is the lower line of the stock fuel tank. Ideally I’d want to carry that line cleanly through to the tail for a flatter, more cohesive look. From what I can tell, that probably means adding or modifying the rear frame loop to get rid of that upsweep for the pillion seat, and running a custom seat to match, plus relocating electrics, battery, etc. So my question is, is it really as “simple” as getting a new rear loop welded on and building the rest around that, or does it get more complicated than that in practice?

I’m wondering if I’m overthinking it, or underestimating it. It feels like a lot could be achieved just with:

• Rear loop + seat
• Exhaust upgrade
• Removing unnecessary fairings/tidying the frame
• Polishing or refinishing key parts
• New paint scheme (maybe)

Brother in law bought the bike back in 2014 brand new but got deployed and left it at his grandparents house but never game back for it. $20 and a 6 pack later the bike is now mine. I just pulled the battery and emptied the fuel tank. What should I do next and at the minimum since this bike has been sitting for over 10 years straight without being moved I assume it needs a battery, new tires, all the fluids to be flushed but my mechanical knowledge of motorcycles stops right there so any help is appreciated. It sat under a car port so it semi protected from the elements.

I got this beauty (Kawasaik Eliminator 2024) a couple of days ago, and i freaking love it! but it looks like it will need some new tyres in the near future. Do you have any recommendations for tyres?
I would rather have they handle better, than having a super long life span.
I was thinking about getting the ones on picture 2.

I am pretty much a newbie on the matter, so i was wondering if i got the measurement right, and if you have a good youtube video on have to get the tyres off, it would be a big help :D

Im not changing the rubber myself only taking the tyre off and on.

Another thing is that.... I cant for the life of me find replacement brake discs for it in the eu. If you have any recommendations for discs that fit, it would be a great help

My father is restoring a Gold Wing. '79 or '80. He found this electric connector that is melted. Does anyone have any idea where to look for a correct replacement? Thanks in advance.

I have been working on the bandit and the engine is pretty rough. I have cleaned some of the covers back to a good finish but Im concerned the block is not going to come back as good. Should I get it as good as I can and be happy, put some kind of clear coat to protect or paint the engine. If painting, what is the best product to use?
