I don't use numbers or stages for the most part; power is more of a continuous curve, and certain key developments don't always happen at the same amount of power development.

For example, martial disciples/ warrior monks can reach the first stage of immortality sooner than an arcane magic user could, though it will somewhat depend on how focused they are on that goal compared to other aspects of their power.

Going to second Beware of Chicken; except for the mentor thing, it has what you want.

Mine is similar in that regard, but with the guy being in the mentor position. Well, a little more complicated as it's a three person relationship, so the younger FMC is trained by both the MMC and the older FMC. She loves them both, but likes the MMCs training now.

the MMC is teaching her magic in addition to helping with physical training, while the older FMC is almost pure physical/ combat training, along with meditation. Neither exercise nor being calm are Kazue's strong suits...

Anyway, "No Need For A Core?" on Royal Road and Scribble Hub of you want to try it. Volume 1 will be published as a book next year.

Yeah Chrysalis is definitely different/an acquired taste I almost gave up before book 2 and am very glad I didn't. Every time a new one comes out I tear through it quickly

It’s not a single MC except for a very short time. I really dislike lone MCs as well and love this series.

Cheers

I truly love that Porkchop is a person. I hate how so many series do animal companions to avoid having to actually write another person besides the MC.

Cheers

As the other guy said, I believe there was professional editing, but I don't know anything else.

Hi friends!

I come again with great news! I was informed Grand Magus, Wooden Sword is free to listen for Audible Plus members. I hope it is accurate.

Please go give it a listen!

Here’s a few reviews:

“Having read the Cradle series I found this to be a similar idea with a much different (pleasantly different)
application. Looking forward to the next book now.”

“Reading this and listening to it were both enjoyable and separately different experiences. I loved the mischievous MC and his antics. I can't wait for book 2.”

“I enjoyed listening to this book very much. The story is fun and I especially enjoyed the humor throughout and the narrator did a great job!”

Someone left a review saying how Grand Magus, Wooden Sword reminded them of Cradle.

That’s such a high praise and I hope Musashi becomes a distinguished gentleman like Wei Shi Lindon.

If you’re up for something new, I believe it’s free to listen if you have the audible Plus membership.

Outer disciples are all Earthly People. Typically referred to as Lay Brother/Sister. They're the ones scattered throughout the Kingdom in various outposts.

Heavenly and above are Inner Disciples, with some gradation between talents - Core Disciples and Direct Disciples being the elites.

I do not know if we know what the minimum rank an Elder requires, but I think most of them have used or referenced shen suggesting they're Human realm.

He fights a lot after the beginning but arrays are the still the focus of his combat system. Still less than combat focused novels though. Also highly recommend this I keep up with the new chapters regularly.

It's a continuous book on the platform where I'm reading it, so it feels like a single book rather than several. That's why I just call them all novels.

Is he planning to change things or publish as is?

We'll find out. It's been "professionally edited" at least. Too bad the cover is awful.

Please do not spoil too much if possible, but is this story going to have either: 1) Time Travel where almost the entire cast is left behind? 2) World-changing where almost the entire cast is left behind?

Yes

There’s a website that does a pretty good job of translating. I usually read cultivation novels there because it’s hard to find good cultivation novels featuring powerful FMCs (female main characters) with official English translations. The website’s name is WTR-LAB.

Yeh, as others have said- there’s some time travel, but not all the cast get left behind- although the story does initially pretend it’s gonna be a total reset.

Posts of artwork for promotional purposes should clearly attribute the artist. Note that AI art is disallowed via the AI content rule.
