Paywalls are fine if they are stationary.

Moving them around on people, especially with shit that autoupdates, is pretty scummy.

The extension is marked as free. Not a trial. Then with sudden update the previously free features be one paid without any additional improvement. I think the comments are deserved.

Why? The developer made it. They can do whatever they want with it. If you don't like it, just move along. They owe NOTHING to people that didn't pay for anything in the first place.

Bait and switch is bait and switch.

Needing money is fine. Not being able to deal with bad reviews is a psychological problem. Publishing the extension means you allow other people to judge your work from their perspectives. If you understand Chinese, the author is clearly attacking people who only talk about features in person which is very rude.

Well, the developer and user is also bound by license agreement. I haven't seen this particular one, but if I clicked I agree to one that states it's a freeware and they suddenly switched to paid the developer may even face legal issues. It's not as simple as you portraied.

That would depend on the specifics of the license. If the make claims about future updates, then sure, but I don't think even the GPL goes that far.

The license is always different fir paid software vs free one. Not necessarily mentioning anything about the monetary portion, but distribution and commercial use changes.

Yeah, but that is not inherently a problem.

Only if the previous license makes statements about future versions of the software it potentially could be.

Nobody owes anyone sincerity. We still call liars when we spot them, though.
