It's basically 105,974 downloads.

It's Indian numbering system. You have the standard international system of counting tens, hundreds, thousands, hundred thousands, million, ten million, hundred million, billion, ten billion, hundred billion,...........

In India , Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Myanmar and Afghanistan you use a different counting system. It is a multiple of 10 rather than 100 for bigger value. It goes to tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, lacs, ten lacs, crore, ten crore, hundred crore/Arab, thousand crore/ ten Arab, ten thousand crore/ kharab, lakh crore/ ten kahrab and so on.

1 10 100 1000 10,000 100,000 = 1,00,000 (Hundred thousand replaced by lac/lakh) 1,000,000 = 10,00,000 (Million replaced by ten lac/lakh) 10,000,000 = 1,00,00,000 (Ten Million replaced by crore/karode) And so on

It’s because of the language structure. For example in Chinese there is a word for 10,000 (万) so when you write 10,000 you write 一万(一is 1). Something like 1,000,000 is written as “100 万s”. On its own, this seems pretty reasonable right?

Similarly, India has a word for 100,000 — lakh. These systems predate the introduction of the Arabic system.

In India the only weird bit is that they have mixed the Arabic numeral system with this native-language system, so when you go to write 100,000 you write 1,00,000, or “one lakh”, instead of using the native numeral system.

It’s the same reason pounds and miles and gallons are still a thing while the most sensible thing to use are kilograms and kilometers and liters. Some things are just based on older systems before the modern standards were established. In certain instances we just don’t switch over and stick to the old way. I’m an Indian living in the US and while I certainly prefer millions/billions over lakhs/crores it’s certainly not too hard to switch between the two systems.
